I became one after seeing some of the hugish armies around here on Eurobricks, I then decided to make my own after Bonaparte's example.

Well my story is... I was 10 when I became obsessed with history. I loved studying the French and Indian Wars, the American Revolution, The Napoleonic Wars, and especially the French Revolution. So I also like legos, so I went on the internet and typed in "Lego French Revolution", and I found a picture of the Bastille made out of legos and there I saw my first lego pirate minifigure. When I was atleast 3 McDonalds gave away lego Pirate minifigures as a toy so I had some lego pirate minifigures. So I then searched "Lego American Revolution" and found more pirate minifigures. I went on ebay and searched lego pirates to find a few expensive items at the time. But I knew my dad would not pay for it so I had to work to pay for it. About a year later I heard Lego was coming out with a new Pirate Theme. I rushed on the internet and searched for it, then when the new pirate theme was released I rushed to stores all over New York, but they weren't there. I called up a bunch of stores but they all sold out. So I went to a store called Target one day and there I found the lego Pirate Cannon Battle and that became my first lego pirate minifigure.

We all know I'm a Star Wars nut, and no pirate fan, but I was inspired for my latest MOC, which then sparked me to get 5 pirate sets to build it. Now I didn't go out and buy Brickbeards bounty, but I did get three Soldier's Arsenals, one Pirate Survival, and one duel. Now I've got four imperials and my custom captain (As seen in my avatar, credit goes to the CRAZY! man (Imperialshadows!)) and two pirates. And don't forget the cannon! So I don't know which to consider my very first pirate set. Which the cashier rang up first? Which I opened first? I don't even remember. But what I do know is, that once I get my hands on a power miners set, I'll have at least one set from every theme since 2008!

As a child I started to collected Lego with Legoland (with the minifigs without movable arms or legs) and Homemaker (with the maxfigures with the balloon heads), but these sets where running at their last legs.

So I really started as child with collecting Castle and Space lego (now know as Classic-Castle and Classic-Space)...

And a little bit of Town/City - but that wasn't really my cup of tea (even today I don't like this theme)...

Trains and Fabuland I never collected - although I regret that I never collected Fabuland...

A little show off on the side - yes I'm one of the lucky guys that have all the sets of the late 70's and 80's in both themes, with the holy grails like the 'Yellow Castle' and the 'Galaxy Explorer (LL928)' ... :pir-tongue:

But like many of us after a while you enter a dark periode of no-lego. Time goes by and after many many years I started living on my own and I moved my stuff to my place... and what I found at the attic of my parents... my old lego sets. Immediately I was back an addict. I went on the internet in search for information and an old world opened again.

Because Space was always my first love... I started to build Classic-Space first... but I wanted a sub-theme. I had to make a choice between Western and Pirates... and Pirates it was. One of the reasons why my choice was Pirates, was because there were more sets. Now I do not intend to collect also these classic-pirate sets … need already enough room for C-Castle & C-Space. But the new wave I will collect for A to Z.

In my search for information about Lego-Pirates I found Classic-Pirates and at that moment they did a contest... Pillage the Village. I thought by my self - and after 1 year of moc'ing - lets give it a try an enter the contest (with good result). At the main time I discovered that it was part of Eurobricks and said goodbye to my old forum and here I'm... :pir-laugh:

My parents originally got me into legos, never really went full forece collecting into one area though, until we managed to pick up 6 sets (2 ships, 2 ports, and some other smaller ones) of pirates at a garage sale, and from their on its been mainly pirates and a bit of mindstorms.

When I was young I had a breif memory of pirate lego but couldnt remember it completely about a year later I asked my friend 'have you heard of pirate lego'. His answer was yes and he told me about the theme but then he told me it was no longer availible :pir_bawling: so I was sad and went and got some lego castle sets because I like history and castle was the closest theme to pirates. A few years later in 2008 I stumbled upon Classic Pirates.com and fell in love with the theme. I looked through all the sets ever, watched videos and tried to find as much pirate lego as a could but I coudlnt buy any. Then I heard a rumour that lego pirates was back in 2009, I was there jumping for joy :pir-laugh: at my computer desk. Reveiws of new sets started to come out and I read them and looked them up again. When they came out I went to the shops and brought cannon battle and lot island and it made me so happy to own a pirate set :pir_laugh2: . Prates is now my favourate theme and I love it but I also liked the old fashioned feeling of the old sets too. Also the other day I was very happy because I got one of the old pirate minifigs out of the vintage minifigure pack. :pir_laugh2:

I started out in LEGO city and space.

Then I got the Imperial Flagship for Christmas one year. In my mind I just decided that it really wasn't fun putting out fires and mowing grass in my LEGO town anymore. I also got tired of just going from one place to another with the space sets.

So after that, I bought or asked for only pirate sets, or sets I could use with them.

3 words: Muppet.... Treasure.... Island

If you've seen the movie then you'll certainly agree. If not, then you have lived a very sad life.

Me too! :pir_laugh2: Well, maybe not, but kinda. Treasure Island is one of my favorite books/ movies ever, so it was probably what got me interested in Pirates.

Oh, and Hornblower. Those books have really inspired me in a lot of ways. :pir-classic:

Hi to all!

First i am new here.

My name is André de Jong and i come from The Netherlands.

I am 25 years.

I was 6 when Lego introduced the Pirates theme (Dutch= piraten lego) When it still was "Legoland". (later Lego System)

I whent out of my mined :pir-classic: What a theme! I tried to build the Eldorado Fortress my self.

With Sinterklaas (can be compared with Santa Claus) i got my first Pirate box; the extra figures. Pirates and soldiers with a chest and the (red) pirate with monkey and chest.

Well later i got more set and still i got the 1989 collection.

I love the Black Sea Barracuda!

Well sadly i lost the Pirates comic book ( in dutch)

:pir_bawling:

I lost my intressets of Pirates lego when lego introduced the "red" Imperial soldiers in 1992 and later 1993 (? ) the Islanders came (Dutch= inboorlingen)

I will make some pictures of my Pirates lego soon (but where should i post them?)

With kind Regards

André

Thought i would add to this thread seeing as i have just joined !

As a kid i was a lego fanatic. Had all sorts of sets town, pirate, space, castle, technic etc. I remember pouring over the catalogues and wishing i had every set in them. I didnt really play with the sets, just enjoyed building them, then breaking them up and building them again ! Only had 2 lego sets which were good but wasnt too fussed about them, the castles were my favourite by a long way. The only ones i had were the forbidden island and skull island

I remember going round my cousins when i was about 10 and he had the Imperial Trading post set up on his floor. I remember thinking it was the biggest and best lego set i had ever seen !! I remember him telling me i could have it but that never happened ! :(. This was around 1998 and the pirates had been discontinued so i couldnt get hold of any imperials. I slowly drifted away from lego and didnt think about it at all for years and years.

Then a couple of weeks ago i got invited to join the YOUR OWN LEGO MAN group on facebook. If you havent heard of it some art student is writing the name of people on the back of 1million lego men ! I was bored when i joined and decided to flick through the pictures on the group and saw a lego pirate minifig. It was like someone had flicked a switch in my head and that was it. I started looking up lego sets on google and came across Brickset where i set up an account and listed how much lego i actually had. Then i remembered the trading post on my cousins floor and looked up the pirate lego and its all come flooding back !

Since then (about 2 weeks ago) i have spent a small fortune on pirate lego sets on ebay. I've bought

6257: Castaway's Raft

6258: Smuggler's Shanty

6259: Broadside's Brig

6260: Shipwreck Island

6263: Imperial Outpost

6265: Sabre Island

And two BSB's !!

Its been great building sets i havent built before. All they are doing is sitting on my desk. Im not really interested in doing my own MOC's ( though i've been amazed at what some people have made on here. They are truly stunning creations!). I just like how whenever i get bored working at my desk, i look left and there is a BSB sitting there standing proud ! My flatmates think i am mad and its a bit childish to collect lego, though looking at the community built up here i think they are wrong!

I dont think too much about the 2009 pirate theme. I think one of the reasons i went off lego was because the pieces were getting bigger and bigger and the sets easier to make. Then all the bionicle rubbish came out which was all my local shop ever stocked. The new pirates are alright, but in my view not a patch on the old stuff. The only exception is the 10210, thats amazing and i am trying to justify the 140 quid cost ! I really want to collect one of each classic pirate set, think i have got a long way to go but i will get there.

Well I remember when I was a kid my Mom was going to the doctors office and my Grandma bought me a small lego pirate set. I then looked at the small lego cataloge that came with it and I was hooked. I wanted the SES so bad. Well I wasn't able to get it in time but, I did get the RBR and then several years later I finally got the SES. I guess that ship is what hooked me to Lego pirates. Now if I could just get one with the box. :pir-classic:

I became a Pirate fan after visiting boards like this one and seeing everyone's creations and reading their enthusiasm!

I recently renewed my interest in Legos as an adult. I was mostly interested in Lego City at first, but I've grown to appreciate just about all the Lego themes since then.
