Norro Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Two ideas stand out for the number of times I've toyed with them just to realized the scale is beyond me at the moment... A giant, overgrown temple for Jonny Thunder... And A massive, working, mine cart track for another explorer of my own... Not my usual I know... God Bless, Nathan Quote
darkrebellion Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Great topic The Brickster . I really don´t have a unique idea for a perfect MOC but I really like things extracted from the Space (Here I am not referring to the theme) or SW so it could be one in either "theme". Also I need to agree with the opinion of svelte corps . In my opinion the best MOCs out there, are the ones with the most impressive and creative techniques over all those giant buildings or the statues that the TLC make. Also the little details in a MOC are what make it an outstanding one or a really "common" in my opinion (I also think the SirNadroj MOCs are so great because of their details ). I especially like when someone make a unique use of a piece that you think is not possible or you ever even think about it. Currently I am working in my "biggest to date" project too but in a way earlier stage. I just get the idea some days ago, so at the moment, I am making some drawings of it and looking around the web for some inspiration or techniques that could help. I just can add that it is going to be "Space" themed an that I want to finish it in some more months. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Wow nice plans everybody! I hope you get to make them some day. I have an enormous list of things i want to build in my mind. But i have 2 favourites on that list being: 1. A minifig scale tallship from the Dutch golden age. I have started on it and i choose the VOC returnship the Prins Willim. You can follow the build here. 2. A large city with tunnels, bridges, mountains, a working skilift and what not. I am building small things for it every now and then, but i don't have the space to build it as i wish. When i do have space, i won't think twice about making it. Quote
Tinn-man Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) I'd say something like this: Link I really want to build a huge city, with Wayne mansion, skyscrapers, trains, and an Imperial Landing Platform . Maybe even a china town with an Indiana Jones car chase . Of course, my current table is only 4 1/2 by 2 1/2 baseplates long Edited March 8, 2009 by Tinn-man Quote
prateek Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I agree! I think it would be awesome to have a giant Post-Apoc city, that kind of looks deserted. Another one of mine would be a minifig scale City Of Toronto. Every detail. I was going to say that but that made me feel too Torontonian but I take that back now Quote
The Who Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I would love to build a minifig scaled Hindenburg. (click) (Flames not included ) I don't have a bunch of money that I am willing to put into this project though, as it is not a top priority. Plus, there are new sets coming out year-round that I want. Whenever I manage some free time to put into it, I do a little bit of squandering parts and assembling things. I basically have the layout for it mentally established, but it will probably be a long time before it is done. All that I have done so far is the majority of one of the swastikas on the back tail, and it is rather large. Quote
Rijkvv Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) Of course the space you need is also important. -A large train table with bridges and tunnels: yes, I really would like this. With the smooth curves, shown previously in Railbricks. And a turntable. -What I also want to build: A PF remote controlled Cheetah (the Dutch version of the German Gepard self-propelled anti aircraft gun) with rotating tower, rotating radars, elevating barrels and maybe led lights in the barrels for "shooting". -A rollercoaster. And with all respect to previous coasters: with realistic looking rails instead of train rails with ties. -A minifig-scale model of the Dutch aircraft carrier "Karel Doorman". -Tracy Island, complete with the 5 Thunderbirds, and all the other vehicles, minifig scale -an UCS model of one of the Thunderbirds vehicles, or maybe the Crablogger Most of these ideas I can't realize because of lack of parts. The train table also because of lack of space (and I think the aircraft carrier also). I wanted to start with the Cheetah if I had darkgreen Model Team wheels. And maybe it's also hard to build because of building skills. I don't know much about trains for example, and if I want to build a big lay-out with steam engines for example, I have no idea what kind of buildings fit in the lay-out or are used to keep the trains running. brickfreak99 Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I'd say either a huge LEGO city or a really awesome ghost train story like TheBrickster or, SherrifCopMike Also, why do lots of people have a name like CopMike's and why is CopMike called Bozza the Wookie or something? Quote
pesgores Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 A perfect MOC would be lots of large modern cities connected by a network. Quote
MetroiD Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I don't think there's such a thing as a "perfect MOC" - at least not in the long term. To me personally, the one we're currently finishing is pretty perfect given our experience & limited pool of "special" bricks. However, I'm 100% certain that once we're done with it, along will come either an addition to it, or something completely new which then in turn would become the new "perfect" project for an awesome MOC. What I mean is that I don't believe it's the MOC really, rather I'd say it's the builder who defines "perfect" according to their own capabilities and requirements. And as long as you keep building, you're sure to develop, just like your MOCs - I've seen that happen with each and every one of you and hope to follow the same route... But to give an exact answer to the question - perfect, as in "my dream", would be a city full of our own custom buildings, cars, statues, monorail & tram layout (!) - you get the idea. Not too modern and none too classical either - the city would be constructed in modular style and should feature a few different neighbours - an "old town" with Renaissance-themed smaller structres, a classical European part of town full of gaudy buildings and perhaps a modern part (albeit without any skyscrapers, I don't think those would fit in too well). The monorail and tram are an absolute must, and I do hope I will be able to get started on that sooner rather than later, since I don't own any sets that run on / include rails. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 It's really enjoyable to read the responses to this thread, and see how diverse our tastes for a "Perfect MOC" are. When I initially started this thread, I was picturing a very large castle, like many of the fantastic castle fans always create. I had never created a really large MOC. I had a thought to build a different castle, Scotty's Castle in Death Valley (a Spanish-style villa) using tan bricks. I studied some floor plans and made some drawings, then ordered a large tan Pick-A-Brick order from LSAH. After building only a very small foundation/section, I realized I would need at least 10 times the amount of tan bricks I had ordered, as well as doors, windows, and all the extras for the details. What I came to realize is that one needs a huge stockpile of bricks, mostly in the same color to build a large creation (simple, some might say, but until you try, you don't realize how many pieces you truly need). For example, it's amazing how quick 100 or even 200 2x2 bricks can be used in a creation. In any case, I had to downsize my dream and create more of a facade, rather than the huge modular structure I had envisioned, unless I wanted to order another $500 in tan bricks. So, hats off to the castle builders and those of you who have created very large MOCs. They take a lot of time and $$$ to create them successfully. I haven't given up, just sort of changed my initial plan to create Grimwell Manor. Quote
JimBee Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Well, I'd dream of building a minifig-scaled Death Star- I can't even imagine the incredible size that it would be! Otherwise, I would continue to build a minifig-scaled version of my own house. I'm disappointed that I had to discontinue that... Quote
Joey Lock Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 I would like to build a Perfect Port, Not as big as Fort Brighton but a Port large enough for a few houses, Surroneded by walls and sea, And lots of diffrent ships docking. And my No.1 Moc would be to create a 3 or 2 deck Ship of the Line...Awesome... Quote
Eskallon Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 My perfect MOC would be a huge minas tirith from Lord of the rings. I would make it perfectly round and very detailed. Unfortunatly it may never happen to me as most brilliant minas tiriths are never completely what it should be like as it is very hard due to the size. Quote
Guss Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) I agree! I think it would be awesome to have a giant Post-Apoc city Freelug members are going to make a Post-apoc diorama at Kultima ( in july@paris ) I hope we'll do well! I'll build a part of it ! sadly we didn't organize it for now but we're going to make it with 2/3 members so it'll be a "big" diorama, maybe bigger than this one Freelug members did last year : Edited April 5, 2009 by Guss Quote
