JimBee Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Has anyone thought of just asking Lego? Surely there must be a way to ask the company a simple question like that. Well, feel free to call customer service, wait 25 minutes to get a real person on the phone, and beg them to tell you when Indy is ending, all to find that "I'm sorry sir/ ma'am, but I'm just an employee. May I suggest speaking to an official ambassador?". And as far as ambassadors go, they only convey what they know about Lego to the fans and vice-versa. They could ask, and I have no doubt that CopMike has good connections- but nothing has come up yet. Frankly, I'm convinced Indy is over. It's been told to us by numerous trustworthy sources (including legomilk, who was right about Bionicle ending), and there's really not that much left to do. While the theme is rakes in a lot of money for TLG, what else can you do with it besides a tank and maybe a map room? Other options have been discussed before, but I really don't see them happening. Plus, it's practically the only theme we haven't seen pics of for the Jan 2010 wave. As disappointing as it is, I think Indy's done. Besides, there has to be room for all of these new themes like Atlantis and Disney. Quote
Xenophilius Studz Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Well, if Indy is going to die next year, which kills me, its one of my favorite themes of all times, that could send it off with a bang like they did with pirates. If they released a massive tank set with maybe a truck for Nazis to jump on, and a horse of course, it would be awesome. Just look at this video mash-up trailer thing for Indy 2, it features a massive tank with guns and turrets and everything. If they can do it in a video game, why can't they do it in actual bricks? Here is the Video. Quote
David Thomsen Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 And as far as ambassadors go, they only convey what they know about Lego to the fans and vice-versa. They could ask, and I have no doubt that CopMike has good connections- but nothing has come up yet. They announced the end of Bionicle, why not the end of Indiana Jones? Sometimes the ambassadors aren't allowed to tell us what they know, for example they kept the Imperial Flagship a complete secret until it couldn't possibly be hidden any more. The fact that they're not contributing to this thread at all makes me think they know something we don't. And it winds me up a little... As disappointing as it is, I think Indy's done. Besides, there has to be room for all of these new themes like Atlantis and Disney. But the Disney themes are extremely short-term. Maybe there are a couple more PoP sets than we already know about, but that's about it. And what more can they possibly do with Toy Story? All I can think of is a few more figurines, like a full-sized Woody or Jessica. Most other characters are the intellectual property of rival companies. I still think the Indy theme is only going on a hiatus. It's not the first time it's happened to a theme. Quote
Svelte Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 But the Disney themes are extremely short-term... I kind of get the feeling that's the point. Like many other toy companies, LEGO is focussing on big, event movies with immediate return on the investment with options for future product development but no long-term commitment. AFOLs like Indy, so the perception may be that sales are good, but the fact that most if not all of the sets have had to go on clearance in both markets to shift them (US and rest of world S@H), which doesn't really say to me 'Outstanding sales!' overall I said right from when Indy was announced that I didn't see how it could be a perennial theme - Indy is nowhere near as big as Star Wars and kids (the major market of LEGO) really aren't as broadly familiar with the movies from 20+ years ago. Hell, if I had young kids I'd have reservations about even letting them watch something like The Temple of Doom It is a shame, I think Indy is the best minifig line there has ever been, but it's not really a surprise. legoindy01 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Here's my thoughts of what's goin' on... Lego is putting Indy on a half year or full year Hiatus... but they will continue to sell the sets. Sinse no prelim pics have been seen or no set lists have been found everyone thinks it's done. But it'll be back in 2011... just speculation. Or... The line is ending but there will be one giant set either of the tank or the grail temple, or lao che's plane, or the club obi wan, or the brunwald castle, or the bantu wind/submarine, or area 51 or some big set. And then it'll be done. This could make sense. And lastly, the line is over and no more new sets are to be released This is all just speculation I guess we really won't know until lego tells us. I mean what bad would it do to just say... "Lego Indy is over and the sets will be discontinued after 2009" ? Quote
???theriddler??? Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I think like lego batman, and harry potter, the line will end with a video game. Lego Batman has stopped now and has a video game. LHP game is coming. And LIJ 2 has just come out. Quote
Xenophilius Studz Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Indy deserves a better death than a video game!! Maybe they will only have summer releases next year? Like Agents, all sets were released in the summer/end of spring. I like you Indy ideas for the finale set, legoindy01. I think LEGO would pick something everyone remembers from Indy, something from the classic movies, like the Tank Chase or the Temple of the Grail. Quote
Zerrick Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 It would suck for the line to end because Indy is cool and it is my favorite line. I am already sad batman was discontinued. Quote
Ratshot Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 As disappointing as it is, I think Indy's done. Besides, there has to be room for all of these new themes like Atlantis and Disney. I agree 100% There's not a whole lot of scenes left that they can make Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 From what I have been told by many of the retailiers I have spoken too, they are NOT expecting to see any more Indiana Jone sets in the near future. It has become a poor seller in Australia, maybe Ambush In Cairo has been the only bright spark, but hey that's only $20au. Maybe if the deal with Lucas continues into 2011, maybe the final Indi film might spin off a swansong for Mr Jones. Quote
Bobskink Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Now that I see and read the revieuw about the Toy Story Army Men, I really feel sad thet Indiana Jones doesn't last one more year. The helmets (in a differnet colour) would have been so cool for German soldiers. Not to mention the camels from Prince of Persia, but they have the good colour, so that is fixable. But still, it's not confirmed that Indiana Jones will end, and maybe Lego was finally able to keep upcoming sets a secret . Quote
legoindy01 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I don't thin it's over yet. I don't think that there will be a january wave possibly not a summer wave either. Maybe it's just going to ttake a break and then in 2011 it comes back b/c it's the 30th aniversary for Raiders of the Lost Ark! Quote
Bobskink Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Did Lego ever took a one year break on a theme? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I hope so anyway. Quote
Big Cam Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I don't thin it's over yet. I don't think that there will be a january wave possibly not a summer wave either. Maybe it's just going to ttake a break and then in 2011 it comes back b/c it's the 30th aniversary for Raiders of the Lost Ark! I think that without a currnt movie coming out to hold interest in the overall line, it's not happening. I mean Toy Story 3 is coming out, so Toy Story makes sense since it's relavant. SW has the Clone Wars cartoon, so rthat's relavant. The indie fad is fading and there is nothing new advertising wise to hold the consumers interest. I'd like it to stay too, but I just don't see it happening. Quote
gladiator Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Maybe 10xxx next year including large indy set ? and then 2011 will release another normal sets Quote
danim Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 George Lucas has announced that there will be another indy movie being released in either 2011 or 2012 Quote
Batbrick Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 George Lucas has announced that there will be another indy movie being released in either 2011 or 2012 *breathes in* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This is terrible! The only saving grace I can possibly imagine is if Lego sets are made and they are as good as the Crystal Skull ones. Also, source please? *faints* Batbrick Away! Quote
The Who Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Can you link to a source? I never heard anything official, and I usually keep up to date on things like this. Quote
David Thomsen Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I thought they had always intended to make five Indiana Jones movies. I expect the fifth to be atrocious, unless the pull in genuine writing talent. But hey, when has George Lucas ever done that in the last twenty years? But surely more Indiana Jones sets will result from this. Let's hope they keep the skin tones etc. consistent, for the sake of compatability. If I were Lego, I'd continue making Indy sets to bridge the gap between movies... just saying. Quote
ElisHelrot Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm not interested in the films, but I hope there will really come a new film, because the sets are just great and at the moment I like them moren than the Star Wars sets, too much spaceships and stuff, and too expensive Quote
legoindy01 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I don't have a link but I heard the story. George lucas was asked in an interview on an arnold swarchtinager (spelling is off) whether Indy 5 was going to happen. What he said was "It's in development, but that's all I can say" I said nothing about "it's going to happen for sure" It'll be a while until anyhting for certain is anounced. So don't get your hopes up... or down (for some of you). And please correct me if there is a different source. I thought they had always intended to make five Indiana Jones movies. I expect the fifth to be atrocious, unless the pull in genuine writing talent. But hey, when has George Lucas ever done that in the last twenty years? That is an ultimatly bias opinion. How do you know it will be horrible? Have you seen a trailer, poster, heard the plot, or have any other evidense that to support your opinion? NO, you don't. I think it'd be better news if they cancelled Star Wars: the clone wars personally. Than if they did decide to make Iny 5, and I really wan't Indy 5. Quote
Robert McGovern Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Certainly add me to the list of those that hope that Lego Indy isn't discontinued. I've been enjoying the sets as they've come out, few of the other sets really grab my attention (tho I like some of the Space Police ones and the upcoming Toy Story mini figs). Even my 3 & 4 year olds have enjoyed the sets and building them :) Quote
KDog Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I think it would be a travesty if Lego ended the Indy theme without making a Grail Temple set. Quote
sinford Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 A grail temple would be awesome! Indy 5 is on IMDB - though only viewable with a pro account but if you're looking at Harrison Ford's page it's listed as a film he'll be in. On a side note, has the Shanghai Chase set been discontinued, it's not on the lego website and I'm never seen it in the shops here in Dublin. Quote
RileyC Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 George Lucas has announced that there will be another indy movie being released in either 2011 or 2012 I feel that this is good and bad news. Yay for a new movie but bad because the forth film wasnt the best movie ever made Quote
