I've been enjoying my classic yellow Ice Cube Tray for a while now, but I've been concerned what I would do if it broke. Could I keep living? Not prepared to take the risk, when S@H released a new Blue one (852660) recently I saw this as a good opportunity to buy a spare. At the same time the BELVILLE (851973) one was on a steep sale so I bought one of them too.

As you can see they are much the same size. Since this is supposed to be a review, I should say that these are quite good to use. Since they are flexible you do need to be careful when putting them in a freezer, and for the same reason you do need to put them somewhere flat and firm. Removing the Ice isn't too hard due to the flexibility, but if you're a dolt like me and fill these up to the brim it can be a tad stressful.

The BELVILLE one is really deep and gives a great shape to the ice. I was very impressed with the results.

I've been waiting for a hot day to take these photos, and yesterday that day came. Enter the kiddies...

I force my kids to use these LEGO sports bottles. They are rather worse for wear... but that's TLGs fault for making a container designed for drinks, and then using a good glue to put the label on!

The girl (Myra) gets hearts and butterflies...

...and the boy (Max) gets just one heart and loads of bricks! These rules have been passed down to me for generations and I have no say in them.

Filled with BELVILLE magic!

Max has a go...

...and it seems we have two satisfied customers! (Sorry for the photos; Max doesn't sit still...)

Later that evening I have some in some "Kahlúa". Note the butterfly.

You really can taste the BELVILLE magic!

Brilliant review! Have you considered joining the Reviewer's Academy?

It looks like a good time was had by all.

Using Hinck's favourite scoring method for these, his favourite types of products, I give it a 978.

I still sort of want the baking brick pan. :sceptic:

Cool review. I have the yellow one too. I like them, but I also found that they are hard to keep straight, at least in my freezer, so they don't stay brick shaped very well :hmpf_bad:

But I have a tip for you with the sports bottles. Try Goo Gone it does pretty well on getting off the sticky remains of glue from plastic and glass.

That is such a warm hearted review!

Sinner, sure has talent of making one creative review! I thought it will be one of those Hinck's Ice cube topic. Seriously, you have really turned an unlikely product into a nice promoting review, prompting others to enjoy these ice bricks.

I almost laughed about five times reading this. Seriously, though, your review is a lot more in-depth than I expected. I think you've said all there is to say about ice cube trays.

I would pay a lot to see Hinck´s face when he notices this topic! (litterally, of course. :look: Hinck, don´t film yourself ´noticing´ this! :hmpf: )

Good review though.. but is that you on the last pic? I thought you looked more like this..

(And no, I don´t have any of those... :hmpf_bad: )

The new blue one is OK, but everyone knows ice cubes made from the original yellow tray taste better :sadnew:

Those Belville moulds remind me of the cheap Ikea rubber trays you can get:

Lego probably bought up a cargo load of older ones and 're-branded' them as Belville. It's all hearts and butterflies in Belville land, right?

Even at 70% off at Lego prices, they could still make a 100% profit even if they paid Ikea the full retail price
