This all stems from an interesting conversation with my wife. My better half asked me if I would build or spend as much on Lego if I didn't enjoy Eurobricks so much. (Now she knows the answer, I fear the computer may meet an untimely fate  )

The answer is I wouldn't build or spend as much, as Eurobricks really enhances my love of those little plastic bricks. Just being able to meet like-minded individuals the world over, as well as learn from great builders has shaped the Lego fan I am today.

So answer away, I'm curious to see what others think.

More spending on!

I definitely spend more, but not because I'm more interested, simply because I'm more aware. I know about exclusives, rarities, oddities, all those money consuming parts that I might not know about otherwise.

As for mocs... I took the last option because clearly, it's the funniest.

Do I spend more because of EB? NAW!!!! I spend more because I'm a moron and feel like I "just have to have it!"

As for MOCs,............

I think EB is really the source of what started me off MOCing. Before I joined I never really built anything. So I'd say EB has had a major impact on my hobby, in the sense of me not only building more, for contests, games, and pure enjoyment, but also spending more, to get more parts for MOCs and to get those rare sets I would otherwise have been unaware of.

Thanks EB!

I voted no and no.

I spend the same amount on Lego, I just know in advance what to look out for. I do ask which set to buy as I am never sure which order to buy sets in.

I have always MOCed at about the same rate since school started to get more important to my future. All through my GCSEs, A-Level and now my HNC I spent a little time some evenings playing with my Lego and on Sunday afternoons, unless it is freezing cold in the loft.

I think if anything, I have become more intrested in the Lego community, looking at Brothers Brick and wading through Flickr to find cool Lego MOCs. I joined Eurobricks to show more people my MOCs as MOCpages was depressingly stuffed to the gills with Bionicle And Star Wars shortly after I joined and I wanted to find somewhere to post the pictures where people would appreciate them.

I voted yes, and How many MOC would a MOCMOC MOC if a MOCMOC could MOC MOC.

I voted yes for the first one because I am able to find out about all the current Lego sets, as well as other items I might not have known about. Then I voted How many MOC would a MOCMOC MOC if a MOCMOC could MOC MOC because I don't remember how much I MOC'd prior to me joining EB.

I voted no and yes. I don't buy any extra lego because of EB, all my purchasing is driven by my desire to collect the cool sets and to get parts for my main MOCs. However, in addition to the MOCs I'd be making anyway, there have definitel been a few MOCs I made only because of EB. A couple of them have been because of contests on the site, but also just last night I created four "Tan Fantasy" monsters just because MacK said I should make more. I'll be posting those in the next couple days.

I voted yes and yes, because I've built more than I used too; since there's plenty of inspiration on Eurobricks and plenty of cool new techniques to use. Now of course more MOCing requires more pieces so I of course have to buy more.

More tan fantasy? Oh great I finally stopped having nightmares of Frank, now you plan to make more... I can't wait to see them :sweet: .

I'm totally with you on this, I Scream Clone. I wouldn't have gotten as enthusiastic about being an AFOL if I hadn't joined Eurobricks.

Gosh, it's almost nearing a year since I first found this site! :oh:

yes and yes, without EB I would never have realised it was OK for adults to collect LEGO !

Great topic, ISC

I probably do spend more from being on EB, maybe because the excellent reviews here entice me to buy sets that I would probably otherwise dismiss. I'm looking at you, small Power Miners sets

I've also definitely increased my bricklink spend due to the level of creative skill on display by our talented MOCers as well, and have stocked up on a lot of useful and unusual parts.

I would say that EB has encouraged me to MOC more. I like the competitions as when you work full-time it can be daunting at the end of the day to think 'I will now start building my 20,000+ piece masterpiec!'. Having competitions with a set topic or theme and a variety of entry levels means everyone can participate, and having limitations actually encourages you to think more carefully about what you build.

The constructive criticism and genuine enthusiasm by EB members to what other members are doing also is an incitement to MOC. Who doesn't like praise?

It is also a great environment to post MOCs, as has also recently been discussed, as posting individual threads make it easy for MOCers who like to work with a narrative framework or lots of text (such as Sandy's Time Crash series) or joint projects (such as CCB) can do so with more flexibility than is just available on image hosting sites.

I voted no and then yes.

No, i don't spend more money. Well, maybe slightly, but not that much more really. I like to keep my spending slow and steady.

I vote yes for a number of reasons. While Eurobricks is not solely responsible, yes, I MOC a lot moredue to the Online Lego community. No doubt. I was about to enter a Dark Ages before my friend introduced me to the Fine Clonier Forums, which, after a few other sites, ended up with me on EB. I MOC much more now becuase I wasn't really Mocing much before! I want to keep up to date with the people on line, and now that I can get feedback... well, that just makes it better!

I guess I do build, and to an extent, spend (my wife better not see this thread) more on LEGO because of the online LEGO community in general, which of course includes Eurobricks.

Obviously, I'm provoked by Eurobricks contests (I have five entries for three different contests in the works) and by the fact that I just MOC more period - for fun.

I've also bought sets I normally wouldn't of, like the smaller Power Miners sets (for the figs and roof pieces only, mind you) and even a couple of City sets, a theme I'm not really that in to.

In fact, I could make up a whole song to the tune of "Do Me Do Duds" (any Mystery Castler should remember that one) about my obsession with LEGO, but I'm not that much of a dork.

I voted yes and yes. Eurobricks has helped sustain a burden on my wallet and many a creative MOCing idea in my brain. I would never have discovered the joy of reviewing sets if it weren't for EB, and everybody else's MOCs make me wish mine were better. :classic:

I think I do spend more on LEGO stuff. Due to eurobricks, I'm more aware of certain sets. And this site keeps me up-to-date in regard to newly released sets. But I don't moc since I don't have many bricks I could use for moccing. And I don't believe my moccing skills are so great anyway.

Indeed..

I spend more because of EB. Mainly because I know what sets are worth getting and what sets are around!

I spend WAY more :cry_happy: , and Moc more also. Eurobricks has made my life hard & cubic , and I like it!

I totally agree with that, only difference is that I am an armybuilder instead of a MOCbuilder.

I don't think Eurobricks has influcenced the number of purchases or MOC's. However what Eurobricks has done is better the quality and variety of my MOC's.

I've gotten lots of good ideas for detailing of my MOC's from Eurobricks. EB also encouraged me to start building vehicle MOC's as well, something I previously tried to avoid. Feedback from EB has made the MOCing process even more enjoyable, and suggestions for improvement have helped to pefect several of my more recent MOC's.

I would encourage anyone who wants to be a better builder, to post their MOC's here for commentary.
