Bazziman Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi Guys, I've been googling myself silly but I couldn't find the answer to this one. For my 6th birthday (1981) I got the famous Yellow castle which I enjoyed building a lot. A few years later though a neighborhood girl got *another* yellow castle. I remember me building it for her. It had the same yellow wall (with the sloping piece) but a different lay out and I'm not sure if it had any knights in it. Does anybody have a clue which castle that would have been? (coming out of my dark age has triggered a lot of old memories to pop up!) Oh, and I think the other one must have been from around 85 / 86 or a bit earlier (I was about 10 or 11 when I build it) Quote
Bazziman Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) Could it have been this? No. I think it was put on a green base plate. Thanks for trying to help me out though. This is a very nice set though.I love the bodies and shield of those minifig knights! Edited March 15, 2009 by Bazziman Quote

Natman8000 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 This?http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=375-2 That looks like the original yellow castle. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 This?http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=375-2 That's a re-realease of the original, no difference. Quote
Fluyt Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Wasn't it just the normal yellow castle, but built differently? (alternate model) or maybe a clone brand? (if they where available back then) Quote
Svelte Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The Lego Collector's Guide lists the earliest castle as the Weetabix promotional one from 1970 (471 pieces) Next is the familiar 375 in 1978. 1980's 1592 has a yellow castle, as mentioned by Sir Dillon. The rerelease of 375 as 6075 took place in 1981. And there's nothing else until the greys take over in 1984 with 6073 Knight's Castle and 6080 King's Castle. At a pinch, some of the 1982 Fabuland sets are sort of large and yellowish (3667, 3672) Quote
Sir Dillon Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Here are pictures of the 375 alternate models Fluyt mentioned, as well as a castle from the idea book 6000, which was released in 1980. Quote
Svelte Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 That's a great resource, Sir Dillon - many thanks for the link. Even if my eyes will never be able to unsee this horror. Quote
Sandy Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Maybe you remember the neighborhood girl building a yellow castle out of basic yellow bricks? If it didn't have any knights or other figures in it, it couldn't have been a System set... Quote
Bazziman Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 Mmmmmmm, fish 'n' chips ....~M~ Nope. It was a different yellow castle. Hmmm...nothing that seems to be the one I am looking for. Here's what I recall. 1. It was (largely at least) similar to the yellow castle (yellow bricks, those slopes in the walls and built on a green base plate). It felt more girlish though. 2. It came with instructions (because I built from them). 3. It was lego branded. 4. It must have been from around the mid 80's - it came in a big cardboard box with a lid (I think). 5. I don't remember any minifigs...I do remember the set missing one part (small yellow 1x1x1 round brick). Thanks guys for trying to figure this one out. Coming out from my DA feels like a total rush; memories come poppin' up again like crazy. That's a great resource, Sir Dillon - many thanks for the link. Even if my eyes will never be able to unsee this horror. Eyes - hurt - can't - see. Aaargh. Quote
brickzone Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 5. I don't remember any minifigs...I do remember the set missing one part (small yellow 1x1x1 round brick). That missing part narrows it down - looking at the listing on bricklink, there aren't any results other than the yellow castle for what you describe. The only other castle-type building I can think of with substantial yellow is Eldorado Fortress from the Pirates line (and that's 1989). Quote

This is so strange. I remember building it for them. Twice. (they were a bit too young / not interested in lego themselves)...It came in a big box in which they put the piece after playing with it (which I found strange since I always left my models on a big table to play with)...I distinctly remember it being similar but not the same to my own yellow castle....the only set that comes kinda close is the street scene. It must have been real lego (I would have recognized a fake wouldn't I?) This is so weird. I guess I am getting too old! It's been more than 20 years after all (gosh, I AM getting old.) Thanks guys for trying to help me out with this one. Quote
Jojo Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hello! I guess I am getting too old! It's been more than 20 years after all (gosh, I AM getting old.) So am I. (And sorry for re-opening a one year old thread.) Memory can betray you, not you personally, but you in general. It happens to me all the time. However, there is no other yellow Castle besides the ones already mentioned, that could be built out of the box according to printed building instructions. Well, there's one other, sort of, but there are no instructions for it (pic = link): (And of course now there is 6193.) Bye Jojo Quote
