I think that the first three pictures are quite funny and very effective. It is just another clever and funny way of saying that there is better things to do than watch tv when there is SOOOO much crap on it constantly. Even in the early hours of the evening when all the little kiddies are still wide awake. I do not want cutlass_Amelie growing up watching all those show with that kind of crap in it. There is always several shows a night about murders, rape, drugs... etc etc etc.

I also think that the 'fake' lego adds would be more effective if they had kids getting up to no good with the same slogan. To really strike a note in parents hearts about better alternative for their kids time.

I'd say that is the one... she mentioned it in her memoirs a little while ago, but didn't describe it in full. That is the most famous test screen isn't it?

I found the first 3 pics to be typical of the type of advertising that goes on these days. However, while a lot of companies would ( and have) used this type of ad campaign these are obviuosly fakes. They are far too controversial for TLG to ever use and certainly not in line with TLG family values.

As someone who was very shocked by 9/11 and katrina i find the next 2 Ads to be neither funny nor offensive. Possibly in bad taste but lots of people have different senses of humour and may find them amusing but this is no reason to condem them. As someone from an armed forces family i know that a lot of servicemen deal with tough situations by making jokes about them. Also following any major news story it is usually only a matter of hours before jokes and text messages are doing the rounds. What you feel about this will always be personal and while sone will be funny to one person others will find them deeply offensive and vice-versa. Each to there own.

Finally, the Lego for adults. The thing i found most offensive about this was the fact that its not even Lego. If you look closely at the pics here you can see they are either some kind of blocks (possibly wooden) or more likely computer modifed photos of real women but definately not Lego. There is another site i cannot find again right now that has a post by the original artist who says the pics were normal when first published but someone at some point has put the Lego logo on there and they have been sent all over the net with no credit for him and lots of hassle for Lego and himself.

That is so true... you can either laugh or cry.... and alot of people would rather laugh as it is easier for them to deal with their feelings that way. The whole 'rebuilt' thing can be a positive message but i think by adding LEGO into the mix does cheapen it.

I agree,... you just have to keep an open mind in things like this and understand the concept. Of course some will not like them because it's against their religion or whatever. But these days some people use to much 'their religion or believe' as a shield to disagree with what is showed. Then you better gone live on an island in the middle of the ocean IMO.

Once again, it's worth mentioning that folks keep on commenting on the funniness or unfunniness of the "rebuild it" ads, which misses the points that they are intended as social commentary, not as humor. It's like reading "The Jungle" and then choosing to discuss whether the book was funny rather then disucss the societal issues that the book raises. Art really needs to be judged first within it's genre and intent.

Woah there! Remember that if you really want to be "open minded" (a really overused term, IMHO) then you also need to respect people's freedom to be offended, and their right to choose to believe that some things should not be shown. If you really believe that it's possible to live a truely "open minded" life, then remember that it's a very busy 2-way street, and you've got to give everyone the right of way.
