I really love the metallic colours, pearl colours a bit less but still great. I hate the chrome colours because of the fact they peel off over time... only good for collectibles and the like.

This effect seems to be limited to certain kinds of pieces. I have had fragments come off antennas and similarly shaped pieces even on display models, but most other pieces have no problems as long as you aren't excessively rough with them.

Personally, I love fresh white. What I mean by fresh white is when you open a new set like 7666 Hoth Base and spill its contents out, I love seeing and building with all that shiny new white. The only problem is that after you've touched it for a while it loses its fresh white quality, and I've got to go by more new sets with white! I have a similar "problem" with clear pieces: I just love them when they're fresh, but then they get all cloudy form fingerprints!

You can do what I usually do and point a low power fan at your hands while you're building. That keeps your hands dry and prevents fingerprints from getting on anything.

Yellow is low on the list due to the quality control issues - the 2x3 bricks from the new Farm sets are so soft and tacky looking they look like a clone brand.

I think I remember you saying a few months ago that it looked like the yellow was getting better?

I knew you'd chip in on the yellow issue! Well, it *did* look better in the Construction sets, but it looks bad again in the new Farm sets. Maybe it's the 2x3 bricks? I don't know what's happening. I can't keep track of Lego's colour issues! I even did as you suggested last time and dug out some old pre 2004 bricks for comparison and it's clearly worse. Maybe someone else who owns the Farm sets can compare.

Interestingly, the European Farm release sets seem worse with yellow than the American release (which is where I got my 7637 Farm). Comparing the two, the North American bricks are a little lighter and more in keeping with the old shade, whereas the 'Euro bricks' (7636 Combine Harvester) are yellower, more 'buttery' and definitely lack definition.

I especially love the dark colors because for some reason I really think they add some "mature" feel to the sets and MOCs. Also I think the new Lime Green from PM and Orange are awesome colors and among my favorites as well.

If I can choose a color I don´t like (Something that is really hard considering I love all of them  ) I could choose White mainly cause it looks rather ugly if not used to add detail or snow in a MOC.

That's an interesting tip, perhaps I'll try that. Still, I doubt there's any way you can affectionately handle your K3PO for an extended period of time without him losing his original fresh white gleam. (Yes, I love my minifigures, but it's not in a creepy way)

Yellow from the Creator house I got here in Ireland last year seemed fairly standard. Just a slightly different look caused by the new plastic (glossier) - no bad thing because it probably means the new bricks will stay looking newish - old yellow bricks look drab even in near mint condition. I have noticed more significant colour differences with the 1x1 plate with clip, but those have at various times been different plastic (softer) and indeed I have older ones from 1980s (I think) that didn't match old yellow lego bricks either.

I like the orange bricks because they look old-fashion and classic while they are quite recent. When I was a child, I was dreaming about orange bricks as a nice-to-have that would never exist!

Furthermore the BNSF train engine and the recent recycle truck are mostly orange and look very nice.

I also like the yellow bricks that many don't like, because for me this is the "Lego colour": I think about the minifigs, the Yellow Castle, the 80s and the more recent #10156 yellow trucks, etc.

I don't like the pearl bricks, especially the golden pearl, because they look cheap.

I love sand red which they don't make anymore.

I just got my first dark TAN, not brown, not a huge fan of it. Also all the shades of pink LEGO made only about 1 looks nice.

When I was a child I had black, grey, white, blue, red and yellow. That was it. The only green I had was Duplo. It's fantastic that there are all these colours now and I pretty much like all of them. Browns and tans and dark orange make for much more realistic buildings and the various greys are great for my military building. I like pretty much all of them, but I have a particular soft spot for sand blue. The only colour that I have a problem with is pink. It is not because it's a "girl's colour" or because I find pink particularly hideous. It is because LEGO seems to have too many different shades of pink that are so subtly different that you really only see the difference when you hold two parts next to each other. Consequently, I have not yet been able to gather enough pink parts to be able to build anything with them (such as a pink Cadillac).

Cheers,

Ralph

I'm beginning to like normal blue not as much as I used to, as most uses for it have been replaced by either dark blue or medium blue.

I've always wondered- is there a difference between medium blue and normal blue? Is medium blue that light-ish blue, seen recently in the Medieval Market Village?

Nice pic, JimButcher

 I did give credit, didn't I?

I understand what people are saying about pearl gold compared to metallic gold, but the latter does wear over time. My 2x2 bricks from Town Plan are already a bit chipped :sceptic:

However, I prefer pearl gold over chrome gold as that chips even worse. Lego, you can keep your fancy Chrome C3P0s and Darth Vaders! I can't believe they used chrome gold on a keychain either, they must have lasted 10 minutes before getting scratched!

Personally, I love chrome. I don't "play" with Lego much, so my chrome pieces stay in tip-top shape. Metallic does chip for me, though.

Apart from that, I'm a sucker for all the darker colours - tan, red, green and blue especially.

Yes, like I said, they're very attractive.

Yes, I enjoy this also. I remember while building my RGS, I would rub the shiny white pieces, until they got dull. If only white didn't dirty so fast...

I'm surprised there hasn't been much discussion of the transparent colors. Trans-dark-blue might be my favorite color. I've also grown quite fond of trans-light blue, now that it's used for more than just windshields (trans-medium blue however I don't care too much for.) Trans-dark green is also one of my favorites. In the opaque colors I like the really bright vibrant colors like orange and purple and green. My least favorite colors that I own are probably sand red and sand blue. One color that I was disappointed in was turquoise. the color was fun, but the quality was pretty bad. It didn't click well and it felt funny.

Funny; I love trans-medium blue but despise trans-light blue. Too overused! Too bright and cheap! Trans medium-blue, as introduced in those 2004 Alpha Team snowy rock pieces, is softer and more natural looking, and quite beautiful. The 1x1 round plates and 1x2 bricks are lovely for highlights in icy, wintry landscaping.

I'm also not keen on sand red and sand blue. A colour spin-off too far, me thinks. But 10185 Green Grocer managed to rehabilitate sand green for me after its overexposure in the Harry Potter sets, so anything's possible.

Some of my favorite colours are dark blue, dark red, dark green, dark tan, dark brown, medium blue, red brown.

My favourite colours would have to be Dark blue & Dark Green. Also Bley looks alot better then dark grey.

But I don't have much Dark Blue/Green :sadnew:

And Pink, the worst offender, because it's a girl's colour. That's right, you read that correctly, a GIRL'S colour! Muhahahaha! Beware my evil stereotyping as I twirl my moustache and tie you to some train tracks! Hehehe!

I lol'd so hard...But yes pink wins for me for worst colour!:laugh:

My 2x2 bricks from Town Plan are already a bit chipped :sceptic:

Do you remove them daily to put on your "Gold LEGO Shrine" ?

I know what you mean I think like the non-dark bricks look alittle to "kiddy" and dark bricks look more realistic and better. :classic:

OH and my favourite non-dark colour is probable Earth Orange or Tan... I <3 Earth Orange [Like those chairs in 4509  ]

Yeah, I've become the color quality freak around here. Frankly, this issue irritates me more than anything else TLG has done and has severely limited my S@H and Bricklink purchases, so I want to find out any news about it that I can. You can't even tell what you're getting on Bricklink anymore. If people say that the colors have been fully fixed though, I'm going to start buying a lot more things.

Did you specifically get any 2x3 bricks in the sets where the bricks looked good? It's always best to compare the same kind of piece, since even if they have fixed the problem at the production level, they will still have large stockpiles of the bad bricks and it could be a year or more before their old supply runs out fully. We were still getting a few bricks made of the old, colored ABS pellets in early 2008 sets, even though the changes had been made in late 2006. The same applied to the rough and smooth slopes.

When you say "standard," do they look more like the left or right one in this picture to you?

There are some pieces made of different plastics that have always had slightly different shades. I am mainly referring to ABS pieces like bricks and plates here, as I'm looking for compatibility with my largely pre-2004 Lego collection.

Transparent colors are great. I like all of them (except when they get heavily overused like trans-black), but my favorites might be trans-red and trans-neon green. I especially like how the latter reacts strongly to UV light, as seen here).

There hasn't been enough in the way of diverse transparent colors in the last 7 or 8 years. The vast majority of windshields in many themes have been trans-black. This was one good thing about Mars Mission, despite all its faults. It brought back interesting transparent colors after quite some time.

Thanks to you all for reading my thread about colours!

I also quite like the variety of transparent colours.

I think I pretty much like all of 'em . . . .

If there is a color I would like to see more of in official legos, it would be either light-blue or dark-yellow.

I agree with most of you here.

My favorite (brick) color is lime green, even though it's not highly useful for MOCs. It's just such a positive color!

What's my second favorite? Guess what - It's neon green!

My third favorite would have to be metallic silver & gold. They're so shiny! Too bad that they get scratched so easily. :cry_sad:

I also like all the dark colors. In addition to looking rather attractive, they are more "real-life colors" than the usual cartoony bright colors.

And just like with many of you, my least favorite is yellow. It's just such an ugly and useless color! :hmpf_bad: I still haven't taken apart my 4404 simply because I have yet to find a good use for its parts.

Also, I'm not a big fan of all those Sand colors. There are so few pieces in those colors that they are kinda useless for MOCs. :sceptic:

And pink, although exotic, is a too girly color for my taste.

But in general, all Lego colors bring joy to my heart. :classic:

How about construction vehicles or anything Blacktron I?

Yellow in general is a fine color; it's the modern, megablok-like yellow that some of us have a problem with.

Not so much a fan of those themes, sorry. But maybe I'll gather all my yelow pieces someday and make a big, yellow spaceship or something. Just so that they will have had some use in Mocs.

Yellow in general is a fine color

That's true. It just doesn't look very good on most things. Not as good as other colors at least. :sadnew:

Yellow is great and certainly not like megablocs (soo can tell the difference side by side) I have loads of yellow. used to make huge boats in inverted step-pyramid style out of all my yellow.
