The Disney and Lego partnership has pretty much been confirmed by now, it's just a matter of time.

PLEASE SHUT THE HELL UP!

Same to you, Sir.

Seriously, though, calm down, dude. You're obsessed with Spongebob and any other cartoon that airs on Nick. We get it. But that does not mean that you have the right to run around here telling people to shut up if they don't like the Lego theme. It's not like they are criticizing you. Anyone has the right to state his/her opinion on a matter. If they think it sucks, and you don't like it, just ignore them.

Why doesn't anyone here realize that SpongeBob is 10 years old now?!

Because nobody cares.

Back on Topic: I, too, think that Spongebob's end is near. These are my reasons:

  • The line didn't do all that well.
  • The last two sets released were remakes that were only slightly different from their initial versions.
  • I have seen most of the show, and I can say that all iconic vehicles and locations have been done, apart from Sandy's house and the Flying Dutchman's ship. But Sandy's house is basically just a tree under a giant glass dome and there is no way for TLG to make such a dome. And the ship would just be another Lego ship like those in the pirate line, with the exception of the inclusion of licensed figs.
  • I don't think that Spongebob is all that "in" anymore with today's kids.
  • With the Disney license comming up and with the Indy & SW licenses holding strong, I don't think there will be much room for any other licenses.

I also don't think that there will be sets from any of the other Nick shows, considering that the first two themes didn't do too well and that shows like the Fairly Odd Parents are somewhat old by now. The only hope for the Nick license that I see is for them to make sets from the upcoming Avatar movies.

I personally found the sets charming, but none of them interested me enough to get them. :sceptic:

These are just my opinions and do not intend to offend anyone. :hmpf:

Does this mean the line is officialy over? I agree with you on your opinions. And because you have contacts with lego what are the saying about the Indy line?

No, it doesn't mean that. I just said the sales are so so, nothing else. Sometimes TLC decides to continue even when sales are poor, sometimes TLC cancels a line even when it is doing alright. So who knows. I would like it when Spongebob continues with 2 sets a year, but right now I think that TLC tries the way of doing something YES or NO, no inbetween solution - if you know what I mean? (off topic: Indy is doing really good, but some here agree with me in this topic I did, that if next year will be as strong as 2009, there are simply no new ideas for Indy...)

In my opinion, and this may be the opinion of others. Spongebob just isn't really a good fit for legos.

And what are "Legos"? Cuz Lego is a line of toys meant for kids? And Spongebob is a cartoon meant for kids? Quite frankly, if you think that a kid's toy shouldn't license a kid's show, then Lego isn't a good fit for you and 90% of this site.

I'm not saying the sets are bad, it just doesn't seem like the theme you would expect to find in a lego store

See above.

Now would be a good time to keep this topic on track.

Please stop pointing fingers, telling other members to "can it".

Let's stick to discussing if you think Spongebob has come to an end.

And stay nice, dammit :classic:

Personally I have no clue as to if they'll end the theme now or not.

I don't care much for SpongeBob, I've got 3 or 4 of the sets, but mostly just for the parts.

How many people in this thread have said "I don't care for the spongebob line", vs. the people who said "i love it". They are called opinions. Everybody on this site loves Legos for different reasons. Should we all just be Lego Apologists and instantly love every single Lego product that comes off the shelf? I certainly love most of them, just thought spongebob didn't feel right with lego, that is all. Should I stop putting my money into something that makes me happy, legos, because of that?

Back on topic please.

If you ask me I'd say that we're seeing the end of the LEGO Spongebob line. I base my opinion on these things:

1.) There are only two new sets this year. Neither of them will apear in stores in Sweden (A strong indicator of poor sales)

2.) The only new sets seen this year are rehashes. Wich will make these sets even less popular.

3.) Megablocks has signed a license agreement with nickelodeon and my guess is that it'll involve Spongebob.

No new ideas? there are enough ideas for at least 2 more years if not 3. Read my list of set ideas on that same topic. :hmpf_bad:

No. Everyone has their right to an opinion. I think Trains and Town sets suck majorly, but I don't make topics about them ending very soon because they suck. That is the difference.

I said I was sorry!

I think it is best we just drop it. :classic: You said it, and it wasn't nice, even if you apologized.

I don't think that the Nick and Disney lines can coexist. They are companies that definitely seem to be competition for one another, and I don't know if they would both be signed on with Lego at the same time. There are still some Spongebob sets they can do before the line is up...

Hey, look, I realized my mistake, said I was SORRY, please don't be so negative. I feel we need to stop complaining I hope LEGO and Nick decide to get back together someday (keeping fingers crossed), because Mega Bloks are cheap pieces of crap.

I also think there's many things LEGO could've improved on.

  • The line may have not done well, but it STILL had a cult following, much like the rare SNES video game EarthBound.
  • The last two sets MAY have been minimalist, but puh-lease, don't remind me!
  • Sandy's house woud've been made using the dome pieces quite similar to those found in LEGO sets such as the Android Base or the Hydro Crystalation Station, as well as some brown and green pieces for the trees.
  • SPONGEBOB FOREVER. Yes, SpongeBob is still in, you just don't care! I still like SpongeBob! SpongeBob rules! There's millions of people that still like SpongeBob, don't you ever read the newspapers?!
  • Why Disney? I would've preferred Universal Studios, because of "Back to the Future"
  • I think Disney should stop bending over backwards for LEGO! This license with Disney WILL go downhill IF they are as bad as the first!
  • Shopko should've become national before Kohl's! I'm sure that in the future ShopKo will expand.
  • I could care less about anyone caring less, because I admitted my mistake
  • ShopKo is better than Walmart! SHOPKO: MY LIFE. MY STYLE. MY STORE.
  • Buy one LEGO set, get the other 20% of at ShopKo, that's better than the Rollbacks that Walmart tried to cram down my throat!
  • Burger King will outlive McDonald's in the future!
  • Pepsi will outsell Coke in the future!
  • Why am I saying all this in a forum about LEGO.
  • Happy 10th Anniversary, SpongeBob! And here's to another ten years at the top! If you don't like him, lock yourself up and throw away the key!
  • GO PACK GO!
  • Great Scott! When will I stop?

I don't know what most of this has to do with LEGO, but I was going off topic for a little bit there. I would love to see LEGO do a licensed subtheme for city with The Weather Channnel. Imagine how cool it would be to have Weather Channel storm chasing vehicles. And about ShopKo, I buy most of my LEGO sets there as well as Toys "R" Us. Pepsi forever! Down with MegaBloks and Walmart! The two most humiliating things in the world! C'mon LEGO, give us a DeLorean! Not some more lame Disney toys! I would also like to see a Pepsi license! Like Darthy just said, just drop it!!!!

If you ask me I'd say that we're seeing the end of the LEGO Spongebob line. I base my opinion on these things:

3.) Megablocks has signed a license agreement with nickelodeon and my guess is that it'll involve Spongebob.

  1. I live in AMERICA.
  2. It may be a rehash, but, WHO CARES.
  3. DON'T COUNT ON IT!

No. Everyone has their right to an opinion. I think Trains and Town sets suck majorly, but I don't make topics about them ending very soon because they suck. That is the difference.

I already realize that I made a mistake. Thanks anyway. I have a right to an opinion, too. I had this type of trouble back in high school. Now I realize what it did to me. Now I know better. I apologized, now I'm going to drop it as soon as everyone here accepts my apology. Thank you.

oh wow.... your future here is beginning to look like the fate of the spongebob license with random rants like that.

I used to be a standard Spongebob Fanboy myself, much like you are now, and couldn't even tolerate anyone who said anything remotely bad about Spongebob. But now the show is horrible, and I haven't even wanted to watch it after season 5. (season 4 was bad enough, but it just got worse from there). And you have to admit that the lego sets this year were just the same sets in a different box. The main buildings themselves didn't change, they just added more accesories. At least Star Wars remakes had drastic body redesigns and actual improvements. Even if it is a cult classic, that doesn't mean it will sell well, or even make a good lego theme.

Holy-moly, Justin! *huh* What on earth are you rambling about? I really don't think this is the right website for your random thoughts...

And I really, really don't understand your double-standards, getting so frustrated with others' criticism, yet you go off on rants like that. I think we've seen enough. :hmpf: This just isn't the place.

I have the sets, the buildings did change. The inside of SpongeBob's House had pictures on the inside wall this time. The Krusty Krab also changed, but it was scaled down. I did my own comparison. If you don't like it, you're entitled to your own opinion, as I am entitled to mine. They were complete redesigns, maybe you don't see it, but I know they are. I now know that I have accept the things I can not change.

Like...

  • The 1984 AT&T divestiture (That would've been impossible to change since the phone company is no longer a 'natural monopoly' and that SBC merged with them as recently as 2004)
  • The 2004 election (I wanted John Kerry to win)
  • The life in which I live (I'm in a foster home)
  • The fact that Walmart hurts small businesses
  • The fact that LEGO has to give up on one license for the other (time to face the music)

Onward and upward....

Holy-moly, Justin! *huh* What on earth are you rambling about? I really don't think this is the right website for your random thoughts...

I understand now.

Back on topic...

I just have to face the music, let LEGO move on, only to (maybe) crawl back sometime in the future. Criticism aside, LEGO is most certainly better than Mega Bloks.

I promise to be a good CITIZEN now!

Fight autism with LEGO!

Well, now that everyone has calmed down, I can speal my bias  ; I hope that the liscense isn't over yet, it should at least last one more year for the 10th anniversary. I feel that this theme has given us lots of great colors, sets, and minifigs. However, when it does end, my only hope is that Mega Bloks doesn't steal the liscense.

I most certainly agree! :classic: I know there would've been more potential with the license, but whose to say? I also hope Mega Bloks doesn't steal the license, because they might degrade it with their low quality product. :sadnew: I think the only LEGO Disney sets I might collect, are the Toy Story sets. I liked that, as well as a few other Disney/Pixar films. I'm sure that this will be an experiment during the first year. If it becomes a success, may the license be continued. If it becomes a failure, may the license be discontinued. I like some Disney, but not a lot, but hey, it's only my opinion. Now, getting back on subject, maybe if the Disney license succeeds, maybe we might see some sets based on classic Disney properties like Aladdin, which I also used to like. Imagine having a LEGO Agrabah! :classic:

Ya, I know that, just whether the Disney line will replace Spongebob or not is the matter.

Hey, look, I realized my mistake, said I was SORRY, please don't be so negative

Sorry, I did not mean to upset you (any further). I was just trying to support the things others have said.

Mega Bloks are cheap pieces of crap.

Now there's an insult you wont get flamed for on these forums!

SPONGEBOB FOREVER. Yes, SpongeBob is still in, you just don't care! I still like SpongeBob! SpongeBob rules! There's millions of people that still like SpongeBob

Prove it.

I'm not saying I don't believe you. I just want you to realize that saying "millions of peaple" is an exaggeration. Of course many still like it - there are always die-hard fans - but it has been a while since I have seen a kid with a Spongebob backpack or something.

And btw, I have not seen any reasonable arguments from you that show that it would make sense for the SB theme to continue. :sceptic: Those occasional n00bish "SPONGEBOB RULES!" outbursts of yours don't count. :sadnew:

Why Disney? I would've preferred Universal Studios, because of "Back to the Future"

This is a rhetorical question, right?

But I agree that a BTTF theme would be awesome! :cry_happy: I definitely don't want it to replace Disney, though! Perhaps when Indy ends...

If you don't like him, lock yourself up and throw away the key!

Oh Geez! :hmpf: Here we go again...

Great Scott! When will I stop?

A very, very good question.

And a nice BTTF reference.

Like Darthy just said, just drop it!!!!

Fair enough. :classic: You seemed to have learned your lesson, so let's move on.

But before we do, let's get one thing straight:

They were complete redesigns, maybe you don't see it

If the changes are not clearly noticeable to the majority, then they are not complete redesigns.

Now, getting back on subject, maybe if the Disney license succeeds, maybe we might see some sets based on classic Disney properties like Aladdin, which I also used to like. Imagine having a LEGO Agrabah! :classic:

Lego Aladdin would indeed be great! :cry_happy: But even if we don't get a Lego Agrabah, there is still Lego Prince of Persia and the Indiana Jones set Ambush in Cairo.

We're making lists? OK!

  • This thread is giving me a headache.
  • Daddy gets mean when he gets a headache.
  • Stop giving me a headache or I'll have to grind you up into little bits and put you in my caffeinated drink of choice.

Lists are cool.

Oh, and kids today don't give a rat's megablocks about Back to the Future, sadly. I'd take that line in a heartbeat over anything Disney except The Great Mouse Detective  or Duck Tales   (which, coincidentally, share at least one voice actor in common).

Great, now I'm off topic. :hmpf:

Lists are cool. I most certainly agree. :alien: I just hope the new LEGO License gets two good years of success. Here's a Tylenol for all your headaches. :classic:

I foresee two possibilities with the new Disney license:

  1. If the license becomes a success, hooray for LEGO! LEGO's got another hit on their hands.
  2. If it fails, maybe LEGO would have to start back at square one: the search for a new license begins after LEGO Disney officially 'pulls a Galidor'.

From now on, I won't treat a loss of a good LEGO license like SpongeBob as if it were a second "Disco Demolition Night", and become a good and well respected CITIZEN from now on. It's all behind me now. It's a new day here in the States.

Well according to brickipedia there is an upcoming set called "The flying dutchmans ship" But I am 99% sure it's a hoax. To tell the truth I hate Lego spongebob avatar was awesome but the sponge sucks I hope they stop making Lego spongebob.

A men to that. I cant stand Sponge bob. Never really got into avatar. It didnt look bad though. But really. Everytime I go to any store that sells Lego I see the shelves almost empty until I look at the sponge bob stuff. I never see anyone buying it.

Now if you were to actually read the topic, then you'd see that this kind of comment has been asked not to be posted.

This is not a "do you like or don't you like"-topic, it's a discussion on wether or not the theme might be coming to an end.

Flaming and whining about the theme is pathetic at best, so refrain from such rants and "Stay on Target!".

You know you just broke your own rule don't you? I never said the show sucked it's okay but it's just my opinion that the spongebob Lego was poorly put together and kinda random like they took a bunch of spongebob seens and mixed it with just plain random ideas like th marshmallow cannon, indoor basketball court and patty catapult. If you ask me all that stuff was just put in there to icrease the peses and the price!
