Jipay Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 MMhhh, what was the word again ? Ah yeah, amazing ! The way you rendered the construction of the tower is plain great, the scenery seems to be alive ! Quote
Holy Diver Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 It will be a while before I can pick my jaw up from the floor. Quote
Teddy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This is great DNL, Have you added an extension to the front of your baseplate? The old trees are gone, but I can see some new sprouts on the corner. The main building is just great and executed perfectly. The courtyard buildings are really great as well. (just checked the flickr folder) They contain some interesting techniques. The tower under construction is a great addition to the overall activity in the castle. The crane does seem to be held together by gravity? Or am I misunderstanding something? The wooden mason`s scaffold is nicely done. Keep it up and thanks for sharing. Kind regards, Teddy Quote
AwesomeStar Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This is so beautiful I'm gonna cry bricks... THANK YOU FOR COMPLETING MY LIIIIIFEEE!!! Praise you! -A.S., crying bricks since I saw this MOC. Quote
Spyder Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Oh my gosh! Was that a brick that just fell out of my eye? I think I'm crying bricks too! Awesomely-super-sensationalistic! 500/10! Can't wait to see more! Quote
Aliencat Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Awesome stuff as usual, dude. Yet another great addition in your Hrotingas series :) Quote
BlueBard Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Simply wonderful! A display with very living scenes, a pretty castle design and of course, the magnificent evolution of the precedent castle. Bravo! Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I use this word sparingly but I think now is good to say that it is perfect! I love all the details and the ladders. Thank you for making this. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I had already seen this amazing creation on Flickr, but had to post again! DNL also posted a rough list of the bricks included for anyone interested I used approximately: 1500 1x2 light bley(LBG) bricks, 200 1x3 and 150 1x4 LBG bricks, 200 1x6 LBG bricks, 450 Dark bley(DBG) 1x2 slopes, 200 1x2 bley inverted bricks, many DBG 2x2x3 and 2x2x2 bricks from a viking fortress and three King's castle siege, 100 1x2 LBG panels, 20 1x4 LBG panels, 80 1x2 LBG tiles, 150 flower stems (maybe a little less in this stage), 285 LBG headlight bricks, 80 1x1 LBG round, 100 DBG round and 1001x1 very light gray plates, 200 1x2 LBG 1x2 plates 44 1x4 reddish brown(RB) tiles 77 1x6 RB tiles 184 1x1 round RB bricks Quite a few pieces there Quote
Asuka Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 A simply brilliant and inspiring work! The use of MF legs for crenels is ingenious and that window design with the meeting curves works great, and that one with the cheese slopes and round 1x1 plates looks also very fine. The timber frame houses´re impressive too and I like your use of barrels for columns. The statue´s a nice touch too, but a well could be a nice addition as well, at least I didn´t see one. Quote
kris kelvin Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 It`s get better and better with every stage. Trurly fantastic work Quote
Guss Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 MMhhh, what was the word again ? Ah yeah, amazing ! yeah , amazing, splendid, superb , excellent, that are the words you need to describe this^^ everything is just too cool ! I love the way you did the feet of soem minifig, to make it looks like the chainmail continue on the legs for the guards, that's very cool. Every way I look at it it's full of cool Ideas, that's really great Quote
TomC Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I've been admiring where this was and where it was going since stage one. Wow. I'm *very* impressed. I'm learning a lot of techniques from your build. Thank you for posting this (all three so far, actually). Looking forward to more if you do them. I'm going to repeat myself: Wow. -TomC Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 That's again an absolutely amazing MOC, DNL! I really it! With it's absolutely realistic architecture, the lovely landscape, the minifigs, animals and additional accessory it is a real masterwork! The most I like the building ground with the crane you added to this your MOC since this is something very exceptionnel that I can't remember having seen anywhere before. Very, very well done! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Cakeman Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Very very nice, many interesting details all over your castle. It's a good thing those comments exist on flickr, or I wouldn't have spotted half of them I really like the 'evolving' idea, and would love to see some decline in the end too! Maybe in between upgrades? Broken down walls with lichen all over them, bandits living in the dark courtyard? I can always hope, thanks for sharing these pics with us! Quote
Skipper 24 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Stunning ! I love the scaffolding the most but the whole castle is outstanding. Well done. Quote
Zorro Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Great update, DNL, you are truly a master builder. The construction works at the tower look so incredibly real! Quote
DNL Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 Thanks everybody!! Have you added an extension to the front of your baseplate? The crane does seem to be held together by gravity? Or am I misunderstanding something? Yes, i added some more landscape on the front, and the next stage will have even more landscape. Only one of the two diagonal parts of the crane is held together by gravity. I would have attached it if i had some brown hinges, but since i don't this was the only way to do it. I'm already more than halfway done building stage four, so it will be finished within a week. Quote
Quarryman Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 So, first of all: The pictures don't do it justice, it looks a lot better IRB Amazing work, as usual, no idea how you come up with all these brilliant details. Only thing that bothers me is that I didn't get to see the version with scaffolding and crane IRB, something which I think might have been very positively received by the visitors (in case someone is wondering: the visitors (to the train show where I and DNL spent yesterday and today as representatives of Brikkelauget, the Norwegian LUG) loved the castle DNL brought.) And I think my favourite thing about this MOC is the kid who spent like half an hour yesterday just looking at it, or rather, looked at it for some minutes, went away, returned to look more, etc. Very cute. (and a little PS: I have absolutely no idea how many times I've said "bricklink.com" during the weekend ) Quote

The scaffolding looked nice, but i prefer taking a ``finished´´ castle to a show. (although that tower didn't look very nice, since i didn't have time to change it) And I think my favourite thing about this MOC is the kid who spent like half an hour yesterday just looking at it, or rather, looked at it for some minutes, went away, returned to look more, etc. Very cute. There were actually two kids who kept coming back, one with glasses and one with long hair, but the second one came more often. (and a little PS: I have absolutely no idea how many times I've said "bricklink.com" during the weekend ) hehe, everyone was wondering where we got al those `special´ bricks Edited March 30, 2009 by DNL Quote
DNL Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 I'm sorry, but after building many castles and medieval buildings i've run out of ideas and inspiration, so I have dicided to stop working on this project and take apart my castle. I've built so many castles and other medieval MOCs already, and i feel like trying another theme. Here is my first town building for my new town layout: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=27442 Quote

But please don't think castles as something limited only to Middle Ages. There are so many different cultures and historical periods to model your MOCs after besides medieval Europe! And if the real civilizations don't intrigue you, there's always the world of fantasy where nothing is impossible. Quote
DNL Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 (edited) April fools!! I defintely won't stop building castle, and i'm going to continue with my evolution project. Edited April 2, 2009 by DNL Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 April fools!! I defintely won't stop building castle, and i'm going to continue with my evolution project. Aha, you had me fooled. This castle exceeded my expectations, which were already set quite high after the first two. Splendid work. I'm glad to see you aren't giving up on castle, and I look forward to seeing the next stages! Quote
