Athos Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Came across this today, thought it might be of interest: Though, beware the link might have a bit of virus issues. http://www.toplessrobot.com/2009/01/the_10..._ever_built.php Steve Quote
CP5670 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Nice article. Not all the sets and themes are necessarily bad, just weird. We were talking about that 6951 set in the space forum here just a few weeks ago. I see they noticed the same thing about Mars Mission's odd story as people here have. Clone OPatra Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 A very nice and funny article. Thanks for posting the link! Some of their choices I find odd, like putting the Agents set on the list. Besides that, it was a great article! (But did you notice they said "LEGOs" in the opening paragraph? The horror!) Quote

legotrainfan Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Interesting article! But I must admit that I like the robot 6951 very much. I don't have it, but I'd love to have one, preferably in MISB condition. As some others here, I prefer new bricks to used ones. I love the design of that robot. Don't ask me why. I don't find it looks odd; I believe it looks so amazingly special! Just a great set! Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 My visit to the site made my browser to report the following Google safe browsing report , so I left the site. Same, I opened it, and a window popped up saying that I needed immediate virus checks. I pressed cancel, and a new internet window opened showing a search of a PC for viruses. I'm on a Mac. Quote
The Who Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Funny article indeed. Same, I opened it, and a window popped up saying that I needed immediate virus checks. I pressed cancel, and a new internet window opened showing a search of a PC for viruses. I'm on a Mac. Exact same here, then I tried again and it did not happen. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I got a virus warning so I clicked "get me out of here" and was sent to the firefox homescreen. Not going to try again (Conficker lurks, stalking the net. Im glad I have an updated antivirus) Quote
Athos Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 I didn't get any notification on my Mac, but now on the PC, I'm getting a warning. May want to avoid the link... Steve Quote
Cavannus Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) For those who are curious about the article but don't want to open the malware pages: > Read the "Bizarre Lego Sets" article in PDF > View a screenshot of the malware page (Both links are hosted on my website server) Edited March 28, 2009 by Cavannus Quote
Siegfried Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Interesting article... even though I don't agree with most of their points. In particular the Record and Play set is one that I've been trying to get complete (and cheaply) for a while. (I bought one recently but it was missing the motor.) In the same time that they posted their rant about how they don't know what it does they could have looked it up themselves. The whole thing just lacks research. I do agree with them though with the odd animal friends set and the 3314 Stadium Security... but I still want both! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 A most amusing article, perhaps the first post could be edited to just have the safe PDF from Cavannus? Quote
CP5670 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 One of the ads might contain something bad. I use an adblocker and didn't see anything flagged. Quote
Guss Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 nice article!... but something shocked me.. especially for those ridiculous countries outside of the U.S. what does it means ? is it a joke ? Quote
Cavannus Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) One of the ads might contain something bad. I use an adblocker and didn't see anything flagged. The ads does for sure -- if it was a real safe antivirus, it wouln't use a fake Windows-like window to mislead people (I must admit it's very well done)... About this article, they mix bad designs, old-fashion sets, weird things and funny stuff. And I agree that they didn't look for many sets. For example, what about this jet with an open cockpit without roof? or this medieval jet? or the phosphorescent head of Harry Potter's teacher? etc. etc. Well, I consider this article as a funny "top 10" rather than an exhaustive analysis. I would be interesting to gather Afols' opinions from forums (including those in French, German, etc.). what does it means ? is it a joke ? That means that the author doesn't understand why we Europeans call football a sport on which you manoeuvre a ball using your foot... Edited March 28, 2009 by Cavannus Quote
jonwil Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I run AdBlock and didnt see anything nasty on the site. My guess is that either the site concerned is running ads with malware or (more likely) someone has hacked the ad company to serve the malware without the knowledge of the ad company. Quote
legotrainfan Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 So some of you had computer warnings after checking that site as well? I got a warning, saying that I had a myriad of trojans. Downloading SpywareRemover2009 was suddenly recommended. I was irritated and let my antivirus programme check the computer; it deleted four files, so I thought: Where's the rest of the trojans? I became sceptical and googled for that spyware thing. What I found confirmed my scepticism: the spyware thing tricks you into downloading it, making you believe that your computer is threatened by trojans. But only by downloading it the real damage is done. So I hope no none of you has downloaded it! Quote
CP5670 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I liked this article as a piece of humor. I wasn't looking for a detailed analysis here. The ads does for sure -- if it was a real safe antivirus, it wouln't use a fake Windows-like window to mislead people (I must admit it's very well done)... Oh, it's one of those fake antivirus ads. After seeing the screenshot, it's actually pretty obvious. No commercial program would contain a blatant mispelling of "average" like that. Quote

Peppermint_M Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Avira warned me about two seconds after the page loaded, so I skedaddled. By the sounds of things I didn't miss much by leaving Quote
