So, I just recently finished reading all four books in the Twilight Saga (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn). My original idea about the books was that they were girly novels with little or no story or adventure. I was wrong. While the writing is fairly simple and the books are overall easy reads, I still enjoyed them. There were interesting characters, some exciting moments, and a few twists. While they are not my most favorite books, I am still glad I read them. Without giving away any spoilers, I am going to give a few quick ideas on them.

Twilight: This one was probably the best of the series. It was different, with interesting characters. Unlike the others, the story did not revolve around Bella obsessing about Edward.

New Moon: The worst in the series. 2/3 of the novel was all about Bella in a self-induced depression. The first-person made this so much worse. The last third was interesting, with new characters adding a twist to the story.

Eclipse: Pretty good. It fell back to the feeling of Twilight. The last third was nice with the large battle. Still, Bella worried too much about things, and the first person made this hard.

Breaking Dawn: This one was really different than the rest. It was almost unnecessary, but wrapped the story up well none the less. The end was a little anti-climatic. Also, the ending was kind of predictable and did not end the series very surprisingly.

Midnight Sun (incomplete): I have gotten half way through the chapters posted online, and it is really good. I really hope she finished it, because it is the best of the series. For those who don't know, it is a retelling of Twilight through Edward. It provides helpful insight into his mind and the Cullens. I would recommend reading it for those who have read the others.

Overall, the books were good. The story was a lot more than a love story. The first-person was different, sometimes good and sometimes overwhelmingly annoying. Still, I recommend the books.

Note: I have not watched the movie yet, but it is on my Netflix que. I have heard and read that it is ok, but not great. I always like watching movies after reading books because it gives a face to the story.

I read them as well, with expectations of them being girly crap, but I enjoyed them. Half of the gooey romance could have been cut out though...

I read the books as well and your review of them is nice and concise. Personally though I found them rather boring and too childish at some points. Also the town of Forks is really small and living in Washington I found a lot of the details really off. I mean when you are driving out on the Olympic Peninsula there is always a logging truck following about 6" behind you no matter where you are.

I think that a good review of the books is that they are good for teens to start reading to follow up with better stories later. On a different note which is a book series you really did like?

I didn't like the first book and so didn't bother with the rest. The writing was so forced, it was like the author couldn't write teenagers properly (which is admittingly hard) and so decided to just add angst, ANGST, ANGST! Seriously, the whole thing read like nails on a chalkboard with all that inner-turmoil passed off as "character". That aside, i'm glad people can see the better parts of the book and enjoy it.

Batbirck Away!

I'm a Twilight junkie. I'm absolutely addicted and am in love with every character!

GET OFF THE FORUM! only joking  . But seriously i hate all these twilght fangirls. As the video i posted above explains twilight is: "a teeny bopper movie about vampires for the hell of it" you want a good vampire story? Then read the saga of Darren Shan. Now THAT is a real vampire story.

Hell Naw :hmpf_bad:

Damnation its even infecting eurobricks....

Those books are aweful, I read one and four chapters in I realized my brain had glazed over and I had no idea what anyone was on about. I promptly shelved it and went off in search of some Discworld. Never again will I read it. From what I can tell from later research I don't seem to be missing much at all.

I have not read any of the books, but I have seen the movie, and I am sorry to say that I found it horribly boring. It seemed to be more something that only girls can get into.

Anywhere I go for the last few months I have seen little girls and big girls alike wearing I Heart Edward (or James) t shirts.

So last night we decided to check out the movie. Only having seen like one preview where it is all "Good hot vampire saves girl from bad hot Vampire" (or something like that, can't say I was paying too much attention)

Um... I thought the movie was very choppy and somewhat um, badly acted? I don't hate it, but I kept turning to my husband and saying, "This IS a comedy right?" TO which he would reply "I certainly hope so."

At the end he says to me, "So, do you want me to get you a 'I Heart Edward' t shirt?" *Shudder  *

Don't think I'll try the books thank you.

He he... Paranormal Teenybopper Romance, no thanks... that genre´s not manly enough for me! I think

I´ll stick to Cowboy Contemporary Romance with a slight detour to Vacation Love from time to time ...

While I am not surprised to find so many negative thoughts, I am happily surprised about the positive thoughts on the books. I have a few revised ideas about a couple of them.

New Moon: The whole Jacob thing in the first 2/3 gets pretty tedious. Overall, I am not a big fan of Jacob until Breaking Dawn. He just gets on my nerves too much.

Midnight Sun: I just finished reading the stuff posted online, and it is really quite good. It is interesting because it shows great insight into the Cullens and Edward. Also, all of the Jacob stuff is cut out. It would be nice if she finished the book.

Movies: While I know many of you have said the movie is bad, I am still interested to see it. I will probably see all that come out, but just wait until they come out on DVD. The only movie that would be difficult to make would be Breaking Dawn for a few reasons.

1. Renesmee grows up too quickly in the book to have one actress play her. Plus, she is speaking when she is only a few months, so it wouldn't work. They could do CGI, but it would have to be great.

2. Bella's transformation into a vampire would be difficult to show because in the book she completely changes. It would be hard to use the same actress and make her look different enough.

3. Overall, this book is the most graphic and sexual of them all. While nothing is explicitly described in the book, Bella and Edward have sex multiple times. Also, the birth scene in the book is pretty graphic. It would be hard to do it justice.

Twilight is both disgusting and terrible. It teaches girls to be shallow and to like abusive, creepy stalker boyfriends.

I have to disagree with you. I respect your opinion, but unless you have read at least Twilight if not more of the books, then I don't think that you can make accusations like that.

However, I do feel that Bella is pretty shallow in the books. Still, that does not make them disgusting or terrible.

I, for one agree. My one reason for hating it is for what the author did to vampires; VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE!! Some parts of the books were good (my ex forced me to read them :hmpf_bad: ) but as a whole its a lot of awkward silence. meh.

I've read three of the four books (with no intention of reading the fourth after learning what happens in it), and I totally agree with Wrack'n'Ruin - especially on the creepy stalker boyfriend part.

Seriously, when you've read as many fantasy and sci-fi books as me (and yes, girly books as well), you'll know the difference between good and bad books. I didn't mind Twilight, really, and I kinda liked the movie too. But as I read the series onwards, everything just became too much: Bella's clumsy "damsel in distress"-behaviour, Edward's perfection-turned-creepiness, Jacob's obsessions and dimwitness... I realized that I didn't like any of the main characters (Alice rocks, though) nor did I found anything in the book believable even in fantasy standards. Plus the writer's conservative and prejudiced views (as well as her general incompetence in writing sensible sentences) popped out way too strong from the book to my taste. And don't get me even started with the pedophilia included in the subtext...

So my advice to all you Twilight-fans is simply that you should read more books.

I have read plenty of books, don't worry about that. I agree that Jacob was really annoying and he bothered me. New Moon kind of put me off from the series, but Eclipse was really good. Breaking Dawn was kind of forced. I liked all of the characters except Jacob and Rosalie.

Blah.. Blade (the orignal) was the best vampire movie. I'd love to see him slice off the heads of those wanna be teeny bobber twilight vamps. Com'on, some one needs to do a parady!!!

part way through this is a "daylight" vampire. Someone should dub the entire Twilight film with all the vampires making the right sound everytime their mouth opens.

What??? :sceptic:

It's Eddie Izzard. B-Movies and Vampires dubbed over a Lego animation. The vampires that can go out in daylight are mentioned about two minutes in. Sorry if you don't get it or don't find him funny *shrug* I just thought it would be funny to re-dub Twilight to reflect that the vampires go out in sunlight and therefore everytime the vampires open their mouths to speak slushy dialogue a rasberry noise is made instead.

Haha! Totally! Now, if there were only a brown minifig head with sunglasses and a black buzz-cut wig...

That would be awsome! I'd love to see Blade in Lego form!
