Boettner Builds Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 That's when PaB addiction kicks in - You have been fair warned you'll want to return again and again! ha-ha It's a pretty good distance from where I live, that's both good AND bad. My store is 10 minutes away and I get the shakes on a daily basis. I would be so very poor!!!! Quote
stevkir Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Not really. Lately the local store hasn't had much of anything on the wall, with all the holiday boxes being filled. with a lackluster PAB wall the past few months has kept me from buying a cup a few times. Quote
ficbot Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I have FOUR lego stores in my area. I wasn't going to go this week. But I am home today in March break (I am a teacher) and they have decided to tests all the fore alarms in my building this morning. So I have to go out now. It's not really my fault. Quote

stevkir Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Went to the one here today and there wasn't anything new or interesting so no cup. The wall was at least full for once. Quote

Timinchicago Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I have been to the Water Tower place store in Chicago every week for the past month and only a few items have changed in that time. I think I will take a few weeks off until the end of the month and let all the Christmas boxes be redeemed and hopefully see some new and more interesting parts. Quote
stevkir Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 You made a trip and didn't buy ANYTHING? I didn't say I didn't buy anything. I was actually there to pick up a gift for a party that my 7 year old daughter is going to for today. I picked up the 70805 Trash Chomper from the LEGO Movie for the kid. Quote
ficbot Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 You must be back by now, what did you get? I get to go to one TOMORROW! Some random regular pieces to fill out our big generic box, and some fences for the park I am building. Quote
62Bricks Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I hit the LEGO store in Kansas City while there on a business trip. Got a hundred or so pink 1x4s, a couple hundred pink 1x2 tiles and a few hundred light gray 1x1 round tiles. Also a couple hundred 2x2 light gray tiles. Over 800 pieces for $14.95! Quote
Desmondjg Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Went to the Lego store today. I had a couple holiday boxes left over which I decided to fill with larger bricks, and I picked up a large cup for the smaller bricks I wanted. Filled pretty well, I may have been able to fit a few more bricks in the middle where the box closes. Here are the boxes unpacked. The red 1x8 tiles were all in the box, but wouldn't stay put for the picture. I was hoping for more tiles. Here's a better shot of the inventory: http://i.imgur.com/2o0LpYM.jpg And here's the cup I got. Take a look at the empty space on the bottom; Rookie mistake. I noticed when the cup was about half full and just didn't care enough to fix it. Spill it! Fences! Inventory. Here's a shot of the individual items: http://i.imgur.com/q6ANnU1.jpg Quote
kinggregus Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 These are some really cool bricks you got! Quote
kdenty Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Checking this before I go, but does the Lego store in Trinity Leeds (UK) have a PAB? I need to know! Yes I've been in there today Quote
meyerc13 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Went to the Lego store today. I had a couple holiday boxes left over which I decided to fill with larger bricks, and I picked up a large cup for the smaller bricks I wanted. I noticed that you filled the box sideways, I'm curious why? It looks like for the most part you were getting standard bricks. It would seem that by turning them sideways you would lose space to the studs. The boxes are squares, 11 studs on a side and 9 bricks high. I have found the most efficient and quickest way is to make stacks of bricks 9 high. I usually go for 1 stud wide bricks (1x2 or 1x4), and then simply add 11 rows of stacks (so 11 rows each with 5 stacks of nine 1x2 bricks for example). That leaves you with 1 empty row, you can do another 5 stacks of 1x2, leaving you with a 1x1 space open to be filled with 1x1 bricks. Or maybe instead of a stack of 1x2 you do a stack of 1x3 if they have them, etc. You could also add tiles or small 1x1 pieces from the wall as filler for that final column. You should be able to fit at least 540 1x2 bricks plus 9 1x1 bricks (not counting anything you can squeeze above the edge of the box but under the flaps. You can do this with any normal bricks, just stack them nine high and arrange them in whatever combination of rows will end up being 11 by 11 studs. You should be able to fit the equivalent of 1089 1x1 bricks. I've used the same method for plates (offsetting each layer by 1 stud, and then using tiles, grill plates, or 1x1 rounds as filler for the offset, which will make them easier to separate without damage. I think the first time I had one of these I started out overthinking it and building some complicated giant square brick, until it occured to me that I could just build stacks nine high and line up the stacks. It would seem that by turning them sideways you would lose space to the studs. I started out with 9-tall columns standing upwards and found it easier to just lay the columns down. I honestly didn't give it much thought beyond that. There was a lot I would have done differently if I had more time. Quote
iamwhoiam Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Ahh! I went to the LEGO store in Troy Michigan about a week ago and I forgot to take pictures, and now the pieces are sorted into my collection! Oh well, At least I did a count of the pieces I got. Here is what I got in my single Large PAB cup: 7 1x2 Metallic gold grilles 14 2x4 Lime Green Bricks 9 of this piece 26 1x2 Transparent Light Blue tiles 93 1x2 Light Tan plates 119 1x2 Transparent bricks 351 2x2 LBG tiles 619 Pieces total! Inzane Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Also a couple hundred 2x2 light gray tiles. Damn... I have yet to find those in a PaB wall whenever I've been to a store. I'd go absolutely crazy for those and back up a truck. :) Perhaps I'll have to visit my local store sooner than later. Quote
Cara Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Why do you want the 2x2 light grey tiles? I've seen a few people now mention that they want to find them or find lots of them, interested to know to what use you all plan. My wall was emptied out for the last month now. But I did find 1x2 dark grey bricks. I think they pulled them down from the rows up top which are up super high and just for display. Because there used to be these dark grey up there and now its different. So I filled my Christmas box with them and a few light grey 2x2 slopes Edited March 17, 2014 by Cara Quote

I've seen a few people now mention that they want to find them or find lots of them, interested to know to what use you all plan. I can't say for certain because I'm always exploring possibilities. But if I had lots of them, I could see them being useful for things like sidewalks, driveways, garage floors etc. Quote
beatpoet Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 ^yep, sidewalks and the like I'd think would be a good purpose for them. The Columbus Ohio store had the 2x2 light gray tiles this weekend as well. Also picked up a bunch of the 1x2 light gray masonry bricks while there(which are now likely gone since there was only a handful left when I left the store) and a bunch of the 2x2x2 white slopes.. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I picked up a half cup full of the light bley 2x2 in Chicago last summer. But I ultimately wanted 2x2 dark bley for sidewalks and whatnot since that is what the official Modular line uses. I have limited use for the light bley. Quote
Inzane Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 ^ You're right of course regarding the official modular sets. I want light bley for my purposes though because that's closer to the real color of concrete poured sidewalks and driveways here in Canada. Quote
KringlesBricks Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 My Lego store at Downtown Disney is low on bricks for the Pick-a-Brick wall - I overheard Lego Employees saying they have stopped shipping pieces to the store. Has anyone else notice less bricks on their PaB walls in their stores? I hope this is just temporary...even though I heard the Downtown Disney store is going to be relocated. But still, this stinks Quote

But still, this stinks Are you referring to the Downtown Disney store in Anaheim? I was just there last week and got a PAB cup. The wall seemed well stocked, though I noted a few bins were duplicates of others (I think there were at least three bins that carried 1x4 orange bricks, which was fine with me because I grabbed plenty). But I've only done PAB twice now--maybe I don't know the standards for low or well-stocked. Quote
Cara Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 About this time of year the walls here always get very lean. The employees say its because people are all filling their Christmas boxes. Having seen the wall for a number of years now I don't believe that's it. Around mid april may new wall items often arrive that I haven't seen before. So I think the walls or the items chosen for the walls go through a reset around that time of year. Quote
