HawkLord Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Just filled my first Pick-a-Brick holiday box. Having never used the Pick-a-Brick wall before, I wasn't too savy on how to best structure everything in the box, but man was it fun! I know I didn't end up scoring as well as some of the other posters here, but I still feel like I got a good amount of stuff - plus obviously it was free. I think I ended up with six white horses and a number of brown bricks and green foliage pieces. Having shopped at Lego stores and never really looking at the PAB wall before, it was pretty impressive the number of pieces they had. Plus, there were tons of people - mostly kids loading cups and holiday boxes. Everyone there was using some variation of stacking bricks for efficiency. Kind of makes me wish I they had something like that when I was a kid. Quote
kasmca Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Like others have said, that really is impressive. I'm curious, how much time did it take to put pack that? In my store, the PAB area was so crowded I could hardly get to the wall and forget about taking any time to pack the cups or boxes. Spend a bit less than an hour packing. I had time to kill so I took my time. Started with building brick towers 2x6 and 2x8, 9 bricks high to fill the majority of it, then packed 1x rows of bricks, slopes and modified tiles to fill in the rest of the base. An employee told me I can build a pyramid on top as long as the top triangles close, so I started with bricks going in one stud all arond and added 1x tiles and plates fill in the gap, constantly checking that the cardboard can close. Pretty easy to optimize with bricks as they are square boxes. Edited January 12, 2013 by kasmca Quote
Bioslayer Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Here is what I got from 3 pab Christmas boxes. 306x misc 2 x4 126x green 1 x2 bricks 9 2x2 light blue bricks 18x 1x2 green slopes 54x. 2x2 light grey slopes 45 1x4 grey bricks 9 1x4 lime green bricks 18 1x2clear bricks 4 4x8 green plates A mix of a few hundred trans orange cheese slopes, red trans cones, flower stems, and dark trans blue studs. I also found a Mis-injected half trans dark blue/half blue stud. :head_back: This totals to 589 non tiny bricks Edit: did I kill the topic? Edited January 17, 2013 by Bioslayer Quote
RunnersDad Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The question is as stated, how many Clear 1x2x2 Window panels can you fit in 1 large PAB cup. It doesn't have to be specific, just a ballpark figure. Thanks! Quote
antp Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) I was not expecting to be able to make a new visit to a Lego store so quickly after my visit to Lille (France) two weeks ago, but yesterday+today I was with work colleagues in Paris. I had two "free" hours this morning. I saw on the map that hour hotel was only 3 km away from the Lego store in Levallois... so I did a walk as I had time (and then I could also save two times 2 € of bus ticket, some sport is always good) The pick-a-brick wall from Paris/Levallois store was more interesting than the one from Lille two weeks ago. So I got a nice collection of tiles: 1x8 white, 1x2 lime green, 1x4 reddish brown, a few glasses (if I ever find windows) 1x1 trans-yellow plates, yellow jumper plates jaunes, flower petals (I knew I should have taken the flower "supports" in Lille...) and a few other things Edited January 19, 2013 by antp Quote
gundamz Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Should I go for the small cup or the large cup? Quote

antp Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Should I go for the small cup or the large cup? It is already tempting to start a second one after filling a first cup, so to me filling only a small one would be frustrating :D By the way, in France if you re-use the cup that you used last time it is 0.75 € cheaper, is there also a "recycle" bonus like that in other countries' stores? Quote
Sid Sidious Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 In America, it's $0.50 off for re-using the cup. Quote
Bioslayer Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Can you share of a picture of the error brick? I would love to see it. on the left is the error, and on the right is the normal 1x1 trans dark blue round plate Quote
xinbei Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I am envious of those of you who can get pink and purple bricks on the wall! Is anybody considering exchanging the parts we have got from the PAB walls? Quote

Andy D Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 (edited) Buying by the pound costs more than by the PaB cup! Yesterday I went to Legoland CA and bought a Bunch of loose bricks, mostly small, 1x 1 rounds, some tiles and some 1x1, 1x2 and 1x3 bricks. I spent about $50. Today I decided to put my purchases in large PaB cups to see how they stacked up. I only filled 2 large cups! That would have been about $30 or PaB cups. I found some colors that I seldom see in LEGO stores PaB walls, and some pieces that I have been wanting for my inventory, so I can't really complain about what I spent, just an observation. Andy D I totally agree. Bricks by the pound sometimes have pieces I've never seen in a PAB wall, but the one closest too me started only carrying basic bricks and plates, so I pretty much skip it now. Quote
Beachbum319 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Anyone from Pleasanton, CA? Hope you can help me with update on current stocks at Stoneridge mall. What are the bricks worth getting? Any plants or unique parts? Thanks Quote

Speedboat Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I filled one large cup at each of the two stores in Munich last weekend. The selection could have been better, but I got some nice parts nevertheless. Quote
KotZ Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Two days ago I bought: 44 cutlasses (now the crewmembers of my new ship can all dual wield swords; I actually did not plan or that when I picked up all the cutlasses) 32 pearl gold window lattices 74 red 1x4 plates 60 yellow 1x4 plates 35 red 1x2 bricks 1 yellow 1x2 brick 1 yellow 1x4 brick 2 red 2x2 bricks 19 trans purple cones 6 trans red cones 32 trans red 1x1 cylinders 177 dark gray 1x2 bricks 162 trans red studs 1 black 2x2 slope 1 gray 2x2 slope 1 orange 1x1 brick 1 orange stud 4 light green stud 56 trans red 1x1 flat plates 2 black angles bricks, 4 studs long, left 12 black angles bricks, 4 studs long, right Quote
antp Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I filled one large cup at each of the two stores in Munich last weekend. What will you do with these bike wheels? I saw them in the French stores, and wondered what could be their use (except for putting on bikes, which were not available) Quote
antp Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) On Thursday I went to Cologne (Köln) with my sister and her husband for watching (listening) to a music concert. As there is a Lego store there, it was a mandatory stop. It makes my 3rd store this year, after Lille and Paris. Luckily the guy at the counter didn't open it to add the paper, as I put parts in the stud of the cup Not a lot of smart packing, since I didn't take a lot of big parts. When putting plates together I knew that they would not be easy to take apart, luckily I have good nails. I tried to take a lot of 1x2 trans-clear & trans-black bricks, but there were taking much space compared to the 1x2 trans-clear plates. Also a few 1x1 trans-clear plates, but as they were mixed with trans-red and trans-yellow they were tedious to pick. In each "box" they mixed two or three brick colors: http://sphotos-h.ak....640830793_n.jpg (I just put the link since the pic is too big - it is me on the left) There was also a "box" of random mixed parts, most likely coming from sets parted out (reminding the grab bags that were found previously in USA stores). But searching in that one was taking a lot of time for not so many parts in the end. The most interesting being the smallest, going at the bottom. Slight off-topic: This time while I was filling the cup as there weren't many parts to stack my brother-in-law went playing with bricks at the desks were kids can build things. I made the name of his music group out of bricks. Then my sister made the group members with minifigs. Then he added music instruments (with pickaxes as guitars). The result: http://sphotos-d.ak....074767803_n.jpg Edited March 16, 2013 by antp Quote

I thought they might make cool greebly bits, but they can't be attached to other pieces really well. If all else fails, the might land on some kind of garbage or scrap metal pile in some MOC... splatman Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 What's with that yellow paper disc taped onto some PaB cups? I've never seen those before. Quote
antp Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 That paper is supposed to be put inside the cup, under the lid, but they tape it over when the cup is too full :D It contains some mandatory info like the 0-3 year warning about small parts, the CE label, name & address of the distributor/producer (Lego), etc. All the info that you also find written on the Lego sets boxes. I think that for any product sold in EU they have to include such info. Kind of useless, it is just legal stuff. I do not know if that kind of info is mandatory in US though. Quote
