Infernum Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Whoah! So many great finds! What a haul Gunman! Great assortment Legopast! I'll have to "investigate" my store. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 And here I thought my haul was good. I should really take pictures of everything. It can be quite amazing what you can squeeze into that cup. I recently had to go to Chicago for continuing education, so I was able to stop by the Water Tower Place store. Very different than what I was used to. Just so much more variety in the wall. So since I rarely make it to a LEGO store (maybe once or twice a year), I thought I would do a cup, or two. Results of first cup: 1,239 pieces = average $0.012 each. Very worthwhile I'd say. Most notable pieces were the large amount trans light and dark blue 1x1 round plates and the flower stalks. Second cup: 945 pieces = average $0.0158 each. Notable pieces here were the 2x2 light bley tiles and 1x1 dark green bricks. I stocked up on them. Although I wished it would have been dark bley tiles. And then I got a large number of 1x2 purple tiles. I'm thinking of Weasley Wizarding Wheezes in the future! With these pieces, I can't wait to get to building more castle themed dioramas. Maybe I'll partake in GoH sometime in the future. If I get a picture of everything, I will update this post. Quote
Clanure Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Decided to finally upload my haul from my trip to Denver. Before I get to the pics though, I think I should state that I have a bit of a different philosophy than most when it comes to PAB. I prefer to treat them in the manner and spirit that I believe they were created. Not necessarily to pack them as tight or strategically as possible to maximize cost, but more like a kid would do it and just fill it up. I will fill gaps with smaller bits, etc. but I make sure the lid closes and don't spend hours packing one cup. Anyway, I hit both stores in Denver and walked away with 22 large cups. Here's the first pic: I already started sorting the first cup, but you get the general idea. Here's the overview of everything: The only thing I was really after that they didn't have was the 5x6 leaf element. As an after thought to this, I must say that I had two very different experiences between the 2 stores. The first store did not have friendly help and that went all the way up the manager who rang me up and didn't include the freebie. I left there with just a few cups and a bad taste in my mouth. The second store was amazing though. I talked to the Assistant Manager there for quite some time and by the time I left he had gone to the back a couple times to check on other elements that weren't on the wall but that he "knew" they had a few more of. I can't wait for the Lego store to open in SLC, although my wife will probably kill me. Quote

TheLegoDr Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Clanure - That is quite the assortment. I saw a lot of people fill the cups your way. Only me and one other guy filled it as tight as we could. (That's what she said) That second store must have been amazing if you only left the first store with a couple of cups our of 22! I was excited about my 2 cups overall... As far as the haul, is say there are a lot of useful pieces. Do you have any planned builds? Quote
Templehill4 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Hi all, I visited the Glasgow Lego store for the grad opening in Saturday. I spent about £110 there. £61.50 was spent on 6 reused PAB cups. The selection was quite good and I got about 5000 parts including about 1700 1x1 24 Facet Jewels in trans red as well as a few hundred 1x1 round plates of a few colours each. The cups were filled well and I had took a small gift tape dispenser. I was sitting in Starbucks at Buchannan Galleries and though to my self. What if I filled the lid with tonnes of small stuff then tape it in using the tape? I would fully maximise the stud space of the cup. This is my first post. I am not a huge MOC creator. I struggle with imagination. I am more in it for the organisational side of lego. Sorting it and classifying it. I am a member on BrickLink and look around the different lego forums a lot. Quote
Fugazi Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Welcome to EB, Templehill4! There are quite a few Scottish members here, feel free to introduce yourself in the Hello! My name is... forum! Quote
krystalKING Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 The most recent two cups gave me a crapload of purple 1x2 plates, not really needed, but its PURPLE! Overall, about a one thousand five hundred parts, mostly green bricks and assorted plates. Quote

As for plans; I've always got plans. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to build so everything pretty much gets collected for some day far off in the future when my kids are grown and the business runs itself, etc. I'm heading to Atlanta, GA in a couple weeks. Anybody have any insight to the PAB selection around there? Research says there are 2 Lego stores and 1 Discovery Center. Any one better than the other or should I hit them all? Quote
Sid Sidious Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I went to the Beachwood, OH store at the beginning of April and got this: Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 2x2 dark tan tiles...I should book a flight to OH! Great haul! I usually tally up the piece total and see how much it cost me per piece, usually less than $0.02 each, which is amazing. I haven't taken the time to actually see how much it would cost me on bricklink. I should do that next time. Quote
Sid Sidious Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 That averaged out to 1.9¢ each (with $0.50 discount for cup re-use). it's interesting the differences between which pieces you plan on using, and which pieces you actually use. I thought the brown 2x6 plates and dark tan tiles would be gone within a month, but I still have most of them unused while the tan plates and clear cheese slopes are basically gone. Quote
brickbuilder711 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) I followed some advice on this forum for certain types of picking and my results were (really) good. I wound up with 1 large and 1 small cup of utter goodness from different sources. Lots of essentials included. Even the small cup looked like the come-up from a parts draft! lol Edited June 24, 2013 by brickbuilder711 Quote

Ricecracker Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 The second store was amazing. Really made me feel comfortable as I was filling up 18 cups worth. If you've still got the receipt, I'm sure the store would really appreciate it if you filled out the survey on the bottom. Quote
Jareth Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) I filled two cups in milwaukee yesterday, but I only took pics of one.....oops.... Cup 1: 3 red 2x4 bricks 10 white 4x6 plates 281 white 1x2 grill bricks 41 trans light blue 2x2 round brick 156 trans blue 1x1 round plate 41 green 2x3 brick 6 1x2 trans smoke brick Cup 2: 60 Blue 1x8 tiles 341 trans red 1x1 tile 223 trans red 1x1 cone 12 white 1x4x6 doorway 43 red 2x2 round brick 18 red 2x2 brick 2 red 2x4 plate 38 Blue 2x2 slope brick inverted 96 black plate 1x2 53 Light grey 1x2 hinge plate 1 finger on end 4 green 2x3 brick 6 Trans smoke 1x2 brick Heres a pic of the second cup I also discovered that you can wedge two 1x2 bricks in the side of the lid, which helps the 4x4x2"Lid Stuffing" more stable Edited June 24, 2013 by Jareth Quote
kibosh Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Not as an amazing trip as some have had lately, but this is what I got today: 1 large cup of 2x2 gray tiles (can never have enough sidewalks!) 1 large cup of 1x1 round trans blue plates (I've been loving how people are using these for water!) 1 large cup filled with 1x2 tan bricks and 1x2 dark red bricks (have a couple of modular building ideas.) Stuffed the lid studs with white fence pieces. Quote
RunnersDad Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 brickbuilder711, that was one heck of a selection you had to choose from! What city do you live in? I live in St. Louis and the store currently has settled in with an average to below average PAB selection. What I wouldn't give for some tiles and large leaves! Quote

The walls here (2 stores a decent drive away) do have below average selections just the same though but there are little nooks and crannies to picking that can spice things up. As was discussed prior in this thread the play tables are reasonably acceptable areas to rack up rare brick and also simple asking/connections can hook you up with good brick. However, being able to get from the play tables varies by store, some don't allow but where I was the staff didn't care. I've heard successful cases of people getting from Orlando even though I probably wouldn't do it there due to the traffic of children frolicking around there. The Bright Green foliage and lime/purple tile, the parts I did end up with en masse, were on the wall stock however. Edited June 26, 2013 by brickbuilder711 Quote
