CamelBoy68 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Some of you may remember I went on a tour of all twelve UK Lego stores during July and I've finally managed to collate all the pieces, work pressures had gotten in the way.... So over the 5 days, I picked up 34 Large Cups and 3 Small, recycling as I went, getting the 75p discount on as many tubs as I could. From this I got 78 different pieces in 27 colors (see breakdown below) for a total of 18,307 bricks/pieces. Most of it will come in handy for upcoming MOCs but a percentage was just filler for the cups. Here's a couple of summary pics, the full list can be found at my Flickr set http://www.flickr.co...camelboy68/sets Quote

Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Yeah, "What's the fastest you can get around all UK LEGO Stores (including buying at least one tub of PAB elements at each store)?" There's also the Newcastle store to take into account now, which complicates things somewhat, as it's not near any of the others. Someone really should organise a 'PAB crawl' for a group of AFoLs... There's also the Newcastle store to take into account now, which complicates things somewhat, as it's not near any of the others. I did all of them by train over 5 days: Day 1 Sheffield, Liverpool Day 2 Leeds, Glasgow Day 3 Manchester, Cardiff, Westfield (S/Bush) Day 4 Brighton, Bluewater, Westfield (Stratford) Day 5 Watford, Milton Keynes i did this order as I live in the East Midlands, so its almost a circle back to home. However, if you started in a location which has a Lego store then you could get another couple in, such as Brighton, you could probably do 4 or 5 in one day. The thing to consider is how much time travelling takes, it maybe quicker by road, but that wasn't an option. Newcastle shouldn't be too much of a hassle, I could probably fit into day 1 Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) I reckon, by starting in the right place, it'd be possible to do all of them in 2 days. 1. Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow. 2. Milton Keynes, Watford, Shepherds Bush, Stratford, Bluewater, Brighton. Or is that unrealistic, given you'd have to get to the actual store and spend at least 15mins filling a tub and paying for it? Edit: blast, missed Cardiff out. Hmm that might throw a spanner in the works. Edited December 16, 2013 by Paperballpark Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I could say you guys are lucky to have so many in a somewhat close proximity. My closest store is about 3 hours away, and the next closest from there is another 7 hours or so...no PAB crawls for me... Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 It's just that our centres of population are closer together. Comes from living on a small island I guess. On the upside for you, you have houses that are getting on for half the price of comparable ones here, with loads more land. You therefore have more space to store the Lego you do buy (which is almost always cheaper than it is here!) ;) Quote

You could probably do Day 2, but the first one I'm not convinced, even if you drive, you have to factor in parking, traffic etc....If you make it three days, you could then squeeze in Cardiff... Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Oh yes, three days would be easy. For Day 1, I'm thinking this (on a Thursday, to take advantage of Glasgow being open until 8pm): Start at 9:30am 22 mins at Liverpool store and walking to the station. Catch the 09:52 from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Piccadilly, arrive at 10:41 39 mins at Manchester store and walking to/from station Catch the 11:20 from Manchester Piccadilly to Meadowhall, arrive at 12:15 41 mins at Sheffield store and walking to/from the station Catch the 12:56 from Meadowhall to Leeds, arrive at 13:49 18 mins at Leeds store and walking running to/from the station Catch the 14:08 from Leeds to Metrocentre, arrive at 15:54 35 mins at Newcastle store and walking to/from the station Catch the 16:31 from Metrocentre to Glasgow Queen Street, arrive at 19:36 24 minutes at Glasgow store, and walking from the station. Finish at 8pm Edited December 16, 2013 by Paperballpark Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I have to say though, I'm really struggling to fit Cardiff into day 2. I don't think you could. Ideally you'd start at Cardiff and finish at Brighton, but neither are ideal, as Cardiff opens at 9:30, and Brighton shuts at 8pm. You could do a round-trip to brighton, as the extra hour it'd take would be offset by the 10pm closing time of Shepherd's Bush, but it's a bit convoluted. Bluewater is a bugger, because it's 20mins walk from the nearest station! Quote
eurotrash Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Camelboy68 has inspired me! Just for grins I decided to see what it would take to get to multiple Lego Stores using only public transport here in ultra-rural Missouri in a single day. Hmmmph, there's only one bus a day from here to Kansas City and it arrives at midnight. I guess I'll spend the night at the Bus Station. Then I have to wait until 10:00 the next morning and make it to Lego Store in Overland Park. Then it's either Head to Union Station to catch train to St. Louis. One train a day leaves at 4pm arrives at 9:40pm (but at least that late departure would give me ample time to pack those PAB cups). That late arrival means that the Store would be closed.... Head back to Greyhound station and catch the 1pm Greyhound to St. Louis - that arrives at 5:30pm. I'd be able to make it to the store before its 8pm close. So in 24 hours of traveling I could make it to two stores. But I'd be stuck at a St Louis Bus Station after dark with too many boxes of Lego to carry. Assuming I made it through the night then it'd take me nine hours of Public transport/waiting around to get home from that first Bus the next morning. I guess I'd be traveling for nearly 40 hours.... I think I'll pass.... Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 ^ What about driving? How many LEGO stores could you get to in one day? :) Quote
eurotrash Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 ^ What about driving? How many LEGO stores could you get to in one day? :) But where's the challenge in using your own vehicle? I could drive from home to Oklahoma City, then KC and then StL and back again in the same day. That would be 3 stores in 24 hours, but it'd be 17 hours of driving and 1200 miles.... Quote
CamelBoy68 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Oh yes, three days would be easy. Finish at 8pm I look forward to toasting your success ! Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Oh I've no real intention of doing it, I just looked to see if it was possible. I'd rather spend my money on Lego! :) Quote
CamelBoy68 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 oK, this part has finished, what else do you have .....? Quote

xinbei Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Late this year I visited the PAB wall in San Diego's Legoland: Nothing too impressive and they are sold by weights which is much more expensive than a LEGO store PAB wall. I got $21 worth of the following bricks: Quote
B Rick Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Back from Legostore Oberhausen Germany, where I lost my Pick a Brick virginity... Oberhausen has a big mall with 3 Lego-points of sale within a 300mtr radius. 1 - Legostore with a decent p.a.b. wall, all the sets inc cusoo, architecture, modulars, exclusives, polybags, grab-yourself-3-minifig, etc 2 - Legoland Discoverycentre including Legostore, all the lego sets, a few exclusives, merchandise, smal p.a.b. with different bricks and pieces sold by weight 3 - Departementstore with a large Lego inventory So before spending all your dough at THE Legostore visit all three to see what they've got. Because it was my virginvisit to a Legostore I didn't had the guts to go all out so I hadn't really done my best to fill the two large cups. It took me half an hour to get this and I'm quite happy with my first result: Quote
antp Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Late this year I visited the PAB wall in San Diego's Legoland: Are there more different parts than the usual P-A-B walls? What kind of bricks are in that rainbow-color photo? I guess that if you have a wider choice of parts it makes the thing still interesting even if more expensive. Quote

I guess that if you have a wider choice of parts it makes the thing still interesting even if more expensive. I hope I have higher resolution pictures of each grid, but from what I can remember as I checked the grids one by one, all of them are very basic bricks and plates, and many grids are duplicate. There are very few special bricks. Actually I haven't seen any brick that I haven't seem from my local LEGO stores (but of course I visited the local stores - three in the bay area of California - quite frequently). I have another picture of the other corner. The picture of wall looks more interesting than the wall actually is. Quote
xinbei Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Here is my 1 big + 1 small PAB cups loot today from Hillsdale Mall San Mateo LEGO store. Quite happy about the mason bricks (I would love to see them in dark tan color, but no luck today), and the 1x4 tan bricks as well as various tan plates. As soon as I went home I started to doubt if I got enough of them though... I do not usually need these small round plates and cheese slopes, but they work as nice free fillers for the gaps between the bigger bricks. Quote
