keetong Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Hey,I didn't know where to put it so I'll put it here. I've never really understood what a polybag is, I know it promotional but how do you obtain them? Can some please lock this after my question is answered. Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It's not necessarily a promo material. It's the packaging material the set comes in. Instead of a box, it gets stuffed in a polybag. Usually, sets that are promo materials are packed in polybags, ie The Power Miners Rock Monster, Brickmaster Exclusives et al. Quote
soc399 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 When a set is so small that it can fit in a single parts bag, they print directly on the bag and don't use a box. Like Raven said, most sets this small are promos, but a polybag doesn't have to be a promo. They could probably put the impulse sets in polybags, but market research must have shown that they sell better in boxes. Quote
Brickthing Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Polybags also take up less space then boxes, so sets that are only posted in the mail often come in poly-bags to save space. As soc339 said, sets in boxes sell better, which is why promo sets usually come in polybags, because they aren't sold on shelves, so they don't need boxes to stand out. Quote
jonwil Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Another thing with boxes is that its harder to steal parts from boxes (polybags can just have the corner ripped open and parts taken out) Quote
KimT Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Isn't the bags inside the box also considered polybags? It's pretty simple, bags made of poly... Quote
Shadows Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 At one time, impulse style sets came in polybags. I specifically remember an Arctic set with a small sled and single hooded figure. It couldn't have been over $2.50. They were always cheaper than even the cheapest impulse available now. Alternately, I remember some very small Racers sets like that, but I had no interest in their lack-of-minifig-edness. I really like polybagged sets, promotional or not. They always seem to maximize the effect with a minimum of parts. They also take very little storage space, unlike their vastly oversized boxed counterparts. It's pretty simple, bags made of poly... Just like they make baby oil out of babies. Quote
MetroiD Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Just like they make baby oil out of babies. Following your logic, should polybads then be bags made for Poly? I did enjoy those polybag impulse sets back in the 90s. The impulse box is pretty much useless anyway, since anyone could build such models without instructions... Quote
VBBN Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 And crackers are made from crack.. Oh wait... Anyhow, it's any plastic bag made by lego. ;) Quote
