5150 Lego Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Personally, I don't see any reasons for you guys to whine about this set. The camper itself looks very authentic, the color theme is fresh and new, the minifigs are gorgeous and there are plenty of accessories. As far as the interior goes, it's no different from the earlier campers. There's two chairs and a tabletop, a few hooks and a tv. If you were honestly expecting more, then maybe you should go play with Barbie toys instead of LEGO. Yes, considering that this is an 09 set, and the previous sets were over ten years old, yes, i did expect more. This is the first time we had a 6 wide camper, so the potentail for a better interior is there. Just cause you liked the overall result, doesn't mean everyone else will, or should. Perhaps your the one that needs to go play with the barbie toys. Just look at these: http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6351-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6590-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6694-1 How are those sets somehow superior to this new one? Thank you for proving my point. You have given example of sets that are as much as 20 years older than the one in question. This camper really doesn't offer us anything new than we've already seen. And since you are bring it up..... 6351 is superior to the new camper in nearly every way. It acomplishes more in a 4 wide vehicle than TLC could in a 6 wide (7 with fenders). I just don't get you whiners. Again, just cause you like it, doesn't mean everyone else will. From what i've read, its not like anyone has just said "i just don't like it" People have given valid aurguments and reasons to why there not happy with the product. Quote
Sir Dano Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 This set is worth it for the hair piece alone.  Quote
green dewback Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Its 6-wide. If you count in the protruding mudguards and hinges on both sides and the fact that it can't fit in a 6-stud door, it's 7-stud-wide. Edited April 19, 2009 by green dewback Quote
keetong Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yellow or white would have been even better... If it was a yellow bike I would be in the Czeck Republic buying it now.(stupid dad stepped on my yellow bike when I was 3 ) Quote
paul_delahaye Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 At least the new camper has doors that open for the driver, this is a good improvement over the old set! Quote
xenologer Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 There is some discusson on BrickLink about this very topic that is new: http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=356114Got a little heated, but it does involve your question of where in the CR these items are originating from. Nice looking set, and I like the new minifig hair (female). Tracy I think that the appearance of the set available early is clear evidence that time travel is indeed possible, and that the authorities do not want us to know the truth! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Thank you very much for this great review, Kanal-K1! Although there are surely some people which disagree with me I must say that this is simply the worst City set of this year! Pros: + great exterior design + great minifigs + car doors Cons: - very huge - ugly hopening mechanism - nearly no interior When there came some blurry pics out in late December I thought that this set will become (apart from its too big size) one of the best City sets ever. But the opposition happened: TLG defaced the whole set with including nearly no interior in the camper (although there would be so many place) and adding this uggly opening mechanism (instead of only a roof to open or one side to open) to it. That's really a shame since this set would have had such a big potential! Klaus-dieter Edited April 19, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Darth_Legois Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 If you count in the protruding mudguards and hinges on both sides and the fact that it can't fit in a 6-stud door, it's 7-stud-wide. Most people don't count Mudguards &/Or hinges when they say "how wide" it is. Quote
gormadoc1 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I think that this is a great standard vehicle set and I would definetley buy it when it comes out. Quote
Svelte Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 6351 is superior to the new camper in nearly every way. It acomplishes more in a 4 wide vehicle than TLC could in a 6 wide (7 with fenders). Thanks for the great review, Kanal-K1! I like the new Camper, but I do agree that the 6351 method of having the roof hinge up is more logical and aesthetically pleasing. It provides access to the interior for the figs without everything flying off into space! And the solid brick walls are also an odd design choice considering the limited space inside. I still think it looks like a souped up Joker's Ice-Cream surprise van mated with one of the 2008 trucks with that chunky roof piece Quote

I will probably buy it (if I can) to mod it I think the Lego designers should study more carefully the older sets. Quote
Batbrick Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Eh, I like it and will get it for that awesome new hair. I also want another fish and don't have a surfboard, so that and the extra white (I'm low on white) will come really in handy for me. Thanks for the review too! Batbrick Away! Quote
Still Raindrop Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I like it. It's not wonderful (they certainly could have done a lot more with the interior, considering that it's six-wide), but it looks like a fun set. And those minifigs . . . that girl's torso is splendid! I think I may have to pick this up when it comes out. Quote
Mike Yates Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I am very suprised no-one has went mental over the fact that there is car doors on a set in its final production area, where as on all the production sets of the Garage the doors were taken out. I for one am very happy that TLC have came back to the light and given us car doors (i've lost all mine or given them to my cousins when i was younger.) Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Well, how it may be lacking detail inside, it still comes with some good parts. -Striker Quote
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Great set if all you are after the surf board but I really love the girls hair. So much better than the ponytailed or girls miniwig. I agree a few changes to the accessories like change the bike match the green trim of the camper, and added trailer hitch. Maybe I will modify mine to add one. Quote
Tom Bricks Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) This is a great set for its parts and unlike some of the other 2009 sets it has a great price. I cant wait until this set becomes avalible because I will pick one up right away. Edit: its avalible at TRU: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3502263 but i think i will wait and get it at my local target because i just got a gift card for my birthday. Razzer Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 It's very attractive from the exterior in my opinion but the interior is definately lacking detail as I was at least expecting a bed of some sort, however the extras (yellow surfboard escpecially) more than make up for that. Thanks for the Review! Quote
Piranha Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Great Review I built this last night and it was really a fun and easy build The "modular" start and numbered bags are making me feel spoiled, back in the day, there was just lots of unsorted bricks Lime green stripes add a nice color touch that we don't often see The figs are superb, the female has a nice torso and hair piece Same with the male, nice diversity The camper itself is very cool, opens up and has a surfboard and bike I thought that the TV screen with the NEWS on was funny, because when people go on vacation they are trying to relax from the real world and we find them watching the NEWS and sitting down, not being outdoorsy I would love to see a lakeside cabin (with boat) set or truck w/kayak and maybe some of those spruce trees in the future A camping sub genre has loads of possibilities Quote
