WesternOutlaw Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I've been wanting to build a retro garage for a long time, and after looking at the taxi to my EBCTC Entry, "1979", I thought, How about a Taxi Station? So, not the best picture, but a classic none-the-less, Taxi Station: And a little nostalgia for those of you who remember: Quote
welcomestranger Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Ah, now that takes me back. Excellent work there Brickster! The only thing I could suggest to really retro-fit the garage would be to replace the roller door with the large door shutters (the big version of those window shutters). Ahhh... back in the days when you could build a modest size building ON a corner road-plate... THAT takes me back! :) Quote
Guss Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Excellent little taxi station, really looks like a 90's set^^ nd a little nostalgia for those of you who remember: I do remember ! ^^ Quote
WhiteFang Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Here comes the Classic Yellow Top Taxi station! This is so beautiful. The signature yellow is used in the building facade mixed with distinct red garage doors that is very uncommon nowadays, adding both red windows and red doors to complement the building structure. Love those classic elements that you have used to incorporate the street scene. Thanks for sharing it with us. Oh, it has been blogged in Classic Town.net too. Quote
Darth_Legois Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I love it! It looks so classic and almost as if TLC made it themselves! Seriously if I saw this as a set I'd think TLC made it it looks exactly what I think TLC would've done. Its perfect. Quote
Freddie Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 ...really looks like a 90's set Nah, I think it looks more like an 80's set. It has many of the features that those had, such as the flat roof with skylights, the red-wheeled car and the basic windows. The rollerdoor was also a common feature in the 80's, and was largely limited to only the firestations during the 90's, before fading to obscurity until recently. IMO, all this proves that TheBrickster has achieved what he wanted to build: a classic-town building. I'd suggest getting the Octan-barrel replaced with a Shell one, though. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 The only thing I could suggest to really retro-fit the garage would be to replace the roller door with the large door shutters (the big version of those window shutters). Interestingly, I actually had two of the red doors you mention (from the old yellow castle). I wanted to use them for the building part of the garage. They were a bit wide and I wasn't able to have a window with shutters, so I removed them. I must say that I like the roll-down garage doors though. There more fun to play with. Ahhh... back in the days when you could build a modest size building ON a corner road-plate... Wasn't that great! One didn't need a whole table for a single building. Sets have gotten so much bigger. really looks like a 90's set^^ It was 1981 when 6383 Public Works Center was released with the red roll-down garage doors . I think 1990 is pushing it a bit. This is so beautiful. I had a feeling you'd like this one WF. Thanks for the blog! Seriously if I saw this as a set I'd think TLC made it it looks exactly what I think TLC would've done. I'm glad you like it. Thanks. I think I may modify it slightly though, perhaps adding a row of black bricks at the base. In addition, I'm not happy with the taxi sign. I'd suggest getting the Octan-barrel replaced with a Shell one, though. I'll have to check that out. Shell colors, let me see... I was thinking Exxon. I'm glad you guys can appreciate the classic style. Thanks for the feedback. I forgot how much fun these little sets are to make. Quote
BlueBard Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Beatiful taxi station, The Brickster, very "classic style" indeed with that primary colours everywhere and those good old printed bricks Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 That's a great MOC, TheBrickster! I really like it! I personally don't like that minimalistic style. But otherwise it's great - it looks really like a Classic Town set! When I thought about possible sets in the Ideas for new City sets topic I even thought about what should be included in a taxi station set. Some things came to my mind: of course one taxi (or even two), a little office where the drivers answer the phone and have a drink and relax after their work, some minifigs, some foliage plants and some accessory. But I didn't think about a garage - that's a great idea which would make the possible set much more attractive and increase the play value! Very well done! Klaus-Dieter Quote
