Being the ignorant American I am, what exactly is St. George's day?

Don't hurt me...

George is lucky he doesn't live in modern times. He would be prosecuted for animal cruelty.

It is actually funny, How we arent exactly allowed to celebrate it nowhere days cause it could be "Ethnic and Racial" offence, At least thats what they say.

But American doesnt seem to care when it comes to Independence day, So why cant we celebrate it? Cause of our Countrys most famous ability...Complaints.

It's all about a Turkish warrior hero who enlisted in to the Roman Army. He later saved an Egyptian princess who was due to be a sacrifice to a giant dragon. George slayed the Dragon and they got married and lived happily ever after.

In other words St. George has nothing to do with England at all.

NB: My version is the super abridged  .

Happy St. George's day everyone!

They got married and lived happily ever after.

I thought he then was executed by the roman emperor for converting the empress to christianity. These old saint usually got the martyrdom. Not that it matters much, there is of course many different stories about him, and I deeply distrust the veracity in all off them

Happy St. Görans day (as he is called in Sweden)!

Uh he probably was executed. I too have heard many stories of him all that include a Dragon and all that sound very tall and somewhat unbelievable.
