martinsuper Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 There is a new LEGO star wars set that has a minifig with black epaulettes. Strange enough, its a.... "Space pirate tank"! I like the notion of black epaulettes and my mind is spinning with possibilities right now. Quote
Majek Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I'd put them on a Minifig Brilliant idea, Ricecracker. Quote
Natman8000 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 First thing I thought when I saw this. Make a evil pirate with all black! Waah ha ha! Quote
General Armendariz Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 First thing I thought when I saw this. Make a evil pirate with all black! Waah ha ha! Same here, but I think he would look yo black Quote
Shoc Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I'd put them on a Minifig Same here - that is what they're for after all! Real eppaulettes come in all sorts of colours, don't they? :skull: Quote
Darth Legolas Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Not a space Pirate Tank, a Weequay Pirate Tank! Know your Star Wars. Anyways, if I ever do get the set, which I probably won't considering it's about as canon as Tag and Bink, then I'd probably leave them on Hondo. That's the captain who wears them. Though they might look good on Brickbeard. Quote

Zorro Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I think they would be usefull for use on some Landwehr units and on Pirate Captains/officers as an example. If I would look through my uniform books then I'm sure I would find more uses for them. Quote
SlyOwl Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 They'd also be useful for various sorts of bird (crows and ravens especially), like the ones here - Top left, top right. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 26, 2009 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 26, 2009 It would be nice if we could find some pictures of historical uniform having black epaulets. I've been wondering about this myself ever since I saw the black epaulets. Didn't think about the birds, that's another great way to use them! Quote
martinsuper Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Not a space Pirate Tank, a Weequay Pirate Tank! Know your Star Wars. I do know my star wars, except only the stuff that matters.... I'd put them on a Minifig Oh, I didn't see that one coming.... Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Sometimes I use them for armour stands, but mostly on the minifigs of course. I knew SlyOwl has made some amazing things with epaulettes, like the cow skull in Lafitte's Landing etc. You can use them for a lot of things, if you have the inspiration at least... Quote
Guss Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I don't think I'll use black epaulettes on pirates mocs, but surely on post apoc or steampunk things, or maybe to make a bird as some did ^^ Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 cool, i'll have to get a few of those to use on houses Quote
Dr. Steve Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I missed that when I first saw the pics....Good eye Not sure how I will use it yet....But I know I will find a way to use it on some army. Quote
El Bucanero Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 And they could also come extremely handy for building statues and figureheads or perhaps decorative purposes. If you make black statues/figureheads that is.. Quote
martinsuper Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 And they could also come extremely handy for building statues and figureheads or perhaps decorative purposes. If you make black statues/figureheads that is.. Yeah, I thought a black admiral figurehead would look cool? Quote
Admiral M Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I agree, figure heads didn't look very good with white epaulettes. You could definitely do an admiral or captian figure head. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If you ever get them, they come with an extra pair Oh yeah... forgot about that. That's why I have 4 extra in my minifig tub. (I've gone pirate!) Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Try to make "the black army" if you have enough of them. An army that's totally black and where everyone is afraid of^^ Quote
El Bucanero Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Yeah, I thought a black admiral figurehead would look cool? Sure, I was just saying you would need to build a black one, otherwise it wouldn't make sense. Try to make "the black army" if you have enough of them. An army that's totally black and where everyone is afraid of^^ That just gave me another idea: Put them on skeletons, that would work perfectly for an evil army, don't you think? Quote
martinsuper Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 That just gave me another idea: Put them on skeletons, that would work perfectly for an evil army, don't you think? Ok, let me tell you right now, I am going to steal that idea. HOWEVER, let me share what I'll do with it. I think you also add the black spanish helmets, black capes, a black feather, give them the old school castle swords, and black pistols... ehhhhhhhhhh? :pir-skull: Quote

I wouldn't give them castle swords though, cutlasses and perhaps those giant black scimitars are better IMO. Hmm, I didn't know TLC made black feathers. I think red would look cool too, I've always liked the black-white-red combination. Perhaps that's why I like Coca Cola. Quote

I thought castle swords because of the scene in "Jason and the Argonauts" where he fights the skeleton soldiers at the end. Quote
