Greetings All,

I proudly present Turners Cross, my latest castle MOC. (pic=link)

zasmall.jpg

I imagine this to be a segment of a very prosperous Royal Knight regional capital. As such the defenses are now more for show than actual combat and the city has gradually overgrown the once mighty keep, its streets now thread right through the heart of it. This MOC has a lot of vignette quality detail sprinkled throughout so please glance around, even into the 'interiors' folder. There are two cunning Wolf Packs, two rampaging Vikings, and a rather well done (yes, I say so myself : ) exploding water barrel, and that is just for starters... I also used this as a testing ground for a few designs, look out for 11 assorted stairs/ladders* and a few snotty fireplaces, not to mention one very fine chandelier... Each building includes a new (to my own MOCs) technique or colour combination which, I think, compliments the whole.

The Gallery (when public):

When I get more time I'll post a few of my own faviourite shots/details as I know it is a lot to look through... also a list of what each shop actually sells : ) ,there are a few unusual ones...

I also want to thank Keith Goldman for his innovative idea of using the ninja wall sections as streets, and Josh Wendin for the medieval Marketplace concept without which I probably would never have started building village scenes!

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks much and God Bless,

Nathan

*As might be hand to any who followed the thread here earlier...

Jesus...

I haven't seen the gallery yet but from what I can tell my MOCs (if I ever get around to try one) won't look anything like that, it's just too good.

Stuff like that truly impresses me :)

Beautiful... :')

It sure is a long time ago since I saw a castle MOC featuring such a realistic and unique architecture, so many lovely details and that is just pure fun to look at!

Wish I could see it in real!

it's great!! :oD :oD

i mostly love the interiors of the castle. they're huge but not stacked with too much furniture, it looks really medieval.

you are going to expand this Moc, right?

Jesus...

Good to see I'm getting through to people :-D. I'll post my fav selection of pics when I get the time... and to answer snefroe1, that is about as far as my Lego collection goes... literally ;)

Thanks for the comments and God Bless,

Nice work.

That being said, I think you should consider moving your tubs out of the background when taking pictures. The tubs really clutter the scene and dimminish the appearance of your MOC. You might in the alternative consider hanging a sheet to hide background details. I think your doing your work a great injustice by failing to clear away that clutter. Still, this is a fine looking MOC. Congrats.

Later.

Lego...'clutter?!' :) As I've just osted on cc, I had nowhere to throw them... next time I'll use the sheet idea, Thanks much!

I agree with Mr Blueandwhite, Mr Norro. You have created an awesome creation but its let down by all the colourful distractions in the background.

The way you frame the work is very important. And by "frame" I don't mean a physical picture frame, by "framing" a work you're creating a relationship between that work and its surroundings so the work can be viewed in the best possible light. That's why a lot of art galleries and museums have boring white walls, so the walls don't interfer with the works of art on display.

all this negativity...have you seen yourself (unwittingly and very ironicly judging in the court room!)?

Its not negativity and we're not juding you or the MOC, we're providing constructive criticism. Nor are we saying there's anything wrong with your MOC, we're saying all the stuff in the background detracts from it. Which is a shame because its such a brilliant MOC. So in actual fact we're giving you positive feedback.

Its not like we're slamming it and saying its horrible. Would you just prefer to recieve praise? Praise is great for encouragement and motivation, but it doesn't stimulate growth or make you explore other possibilites. Maybe its not possible for you to move all the clutter from around your MOC, but we don't know that. We're putting forth a suggestion to present your MOC in the best light possible, what's negative aboutt hat?

And yes, I see myself in mirrors very briefly before they shatter. I must get one made from bullet proof glass one day.

Perhaps you mistook me... I all ready think I should have used a sheet, but that's life. I probably will next time....And the court room is physically in the MOC, not a reference to your comments :-D

Yes, I mistook you. It was fun! But what about the looking at myself part? Did I get that right?

if seeing yourself means you spotted your avatar which I unwittingly used as a judge in the courtroom in this shot, then yes!

Actually I didn't recognise myself. Why are you stealing my identity? Surely I can force you to pay royalties or get something useful out of you!

Actually I wasn't back on EB when I started constuction so I only remembered you as Red Beard... how was I to know you'd shaved to mere black stubble?

God Bless,

I had to take a better look before I gave my input. Stunning. So many great little details. The city is alive though not quite as busy as I first thought. Your numerous stairs and ladders are excellent. I will be using them for inspiration for sure. I like many of the building details and the uniqueness of each building. You don't have duplicates in different colors each has personality and a function. Your fortress looks strong and powerful as any military fort should. Overall, you have captured a fine taste of a moment in time within a walled city. Your water is also well done.

Now for my dislikes. I am not sure if you should be shot or commended for using all those stockade doors for a roof. Many of the buildings including the fort are too ugly. Which considering the time period this makes sense but I prefer more shapely and stylish looking buildings. I am not sure about all your building colors but they are fairly good except maybe the blue. Even painted the blue would not be so intense. At the lowest level the baseplates are rather boring. This is a pain for even me but I think by adding a few rocks or some mud could have made this better. And finally the houses seem a little too large and don't make use of the room inside them in some cases. Perhaps this is the wealthier section of town but it seems that these are still a litle too big.

This is nicely done and would be excellent to display. It has loads of details, great innovations, and is nice to look at. Well done. Though my complaints with it are there it really shines as a well designed effort. Only some fine tuning and the lack of style in areas could really be improved.

Castle maniac indeed! ;)

Suvie D provides wonderful constructive criticism! I wouldn't have even thought of all those things he bought up until I read his post. But I haven't built many MOCs before. This is a learning experience for me!
