Zarkan Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Okay, time for a long list of my predictions: City - Most likely, we'll either be getting a redesign of another subtheme (probably Hospital or Airport), or... another Fire line. I hope we don't get the latter, but I wouldn't be suprised. If we do get the former, however, I suspect that we'll either get a large hospital or a large airport for a flagship set. If they go the airport route, I'm thinking they may do smaller passenger jets - perhaps with 6 wide fuselages instead of 8 wide ones. Perhaps we'll also see a second wave for the farm theme, if the first wave this year does well. Oh, and new trains should surface eventually. Castle - Elves, of course. Ever since that lego magazine map showed a lego elf design, we all knew that they'd be making them eventually. I'm betting that we may see a hybrid of elves and forestmen, complete with treehouses and lots of bows and arrows. I'm thinking we may also get a special UCS castle with a huge amount of minifigs, but I'm not really sure on that one. Space Police - I'm sure they'll do a second wave, and I'm betting it'll either have more wacky aliens or a new, Blacktron-like bad guy faction. Probalby the former though, as TLC just can't seem to break the human-vs-monsters formula. We'll probably get a ground base for the Space Police, and maybe a wheeled vehicle if we don't get one this year. Pirates - It'll continue for sure, but I doubt we'll get a new subfaction just yet. It'll probably still be Brickbeards Pirates vs. the Imperials. I think the flagship set will either be a ship for the Imperials or a large trading post that is compatible with the Soldier's Fort from this year. Agents - I dunno if it will continue or not, but I doubt it. And even if it does, I have no idea what they'll do. Starwars - More clone wars, obviously, and I'm sure we'll get at least one or two more classic trilogy sets. Maybe a big cantina set or a new Jabba's palace. Oh, and a couple more UCS sets wil probably surface as well. Indiana Jones - A Tank set will be a must if this is the last year for the theme, as many people believe. A Holy Grail chamber may come out as well, and perhaps a set based on Hanger 51 from KOTCS. Other than that, I really don't know, and I fear they may just do remakes of the old sets instead, like they are with the Spongebob theme. Disney - Toy Story, Cars, Prince of Persia, that's all we know. It's not hard to see what TLC could and probably will do for sets with the first two themes, though, and the other... not so sure. Bionicle - With the direction the storyline is going, I think we'll probably see sets of the Elemental Lords, which will be awesome. Again though, other than that I have no clue. Racers, Technic, Duplo - The usual. New Themes??? - We usually get one or two new themes each year, and Legomilk has rarely been wrong, so I'd say its a given that we'll get something new besides the Disney license. Perhaps a new history based theme? Western or Greeks are probably the best bets, but they probably won't be quite what many are hoping for. If they do Western, than there will probably be no Indians, as stuff like that just doesn't seem to fly with the modern day public and its "politically correct" atmosphere. If it's greeks, then expect lots of monsters and mythology, not an actual realistic history theme. Whew, that took a while. Good thing I've been thinking over a lot of this stuff for months. Quote
Svelte Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Maybe Legomilk's list only includes themes that he knows are actually confirmed, hence the omissions? I think it highly likely we will see a second year of Power Miners, but maybe since the summer release already features a large selection of PM sets, they will put off a full new wave until the second half of 2010 (kind of like what they did with Indy this year or MM in 2008). I also wouldn't assume that CC style modular buildings will continue as a theme as it was originally devised as a series of three. This style of sophisticated building may well spin off into something different. I doubt Agents will survive another year if they are introducing two new themes. Apart from the giant robo-Inferno mech the sets aren't impressing me that much (apart from some nice figs and parts) so I won't be too sad if this happens. Quote
Algernon Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think that new waves for Pirates and Space Police will be a given, since most themes are given two waves or more. I also think Elves are likely. However, I think we will probably have to kiss goodbye to Agents and Power Miners. They had their obligatory two waves, and LEGO never keeps them alive unless they're really selling enough to merit it. And I doubt that they did well enough to merit another year, though I don't think they sold poorly. Star Wars will be the usual dirge. City will be pretty normal too. LEGO's two best selling themes don't seem to change much. Indiana Jones will likely continue. Bionicle will continue of course, but I haven't been keeping up with the convoluted storyline so I have no idea what to expect. New themes as well... we know that Disney will be showing up. I'm not terribly excited for those. In terms of other new themes, who knows what LEGO's cooked up this time?? I can only hope we get some gritty, realistic theme like Rock Raiders and Dino Attack to replace Power Miners. But who knows? Quote
Natman8000 Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I could see a new Dino attack. It would be awesome if it is like dino attack 3000 and there are cybernetic dinos that are not so crappy built. Quote
Algernon Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I could see a new Dino attack. It would be awesome if it is like dino attack 3000 and there are cybernetic dinos that are not so crappy built. Yeah, and human vehicles that are actually somewhat decent... the only cool human vehicle in that theme was the helicopter. Quote

They had their obligatory two waves, and LEGO never keeps them alive unless they're really selling enough to merit it. And I doubt that they did well enough to merit another year, though I don't think they sold poorly. But Power Miners is this year's theme, while Agents is on it's second year now. I like to believe we're getting the friggin' elves finally, as well as continuation to the Pirates. As far as discontinuing themes would go, I think Indiana Jones and Spongebob will be replaced by new licensed themes. And I really hope they refocus the City theme to add more fresh ideas. Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) That's not necessarily true, about the TIE fighters. If you've been collecting for years and years, perhaps, but for those of us like myself who hadn't picked up a Star Wars set until recently, it's a great way for us to get our hands on one without paying the sometimes exorbitant collector's price for an old one on Bricklink. If they released a new TIE fighter I'd buy at least one today. LEGO's key market, children, is one in which many collectors may have moved on from their Star Wars sets since the last TIE fighter was released almost 5 years ago, so their main customer base is one that is constantly regenerating, so need for certain timeless sets as this would regrenerate as well. But either way, I digress. I totally agree with you, mania3! When you look at the (last ) 10 years of Lego SW you can see that the most of the (OT) sets - especially the vehicles - had minimum one re-design. Since TLG released Darth Vader's TIE Fighter this year it would be only logical that they'll offer us a black-grey TIE Fighter next year - perhaps even in the combination with a (new) X- or Y-Wing - or alone in the January wave (since there are mostly only the little and medium sized sets). Apart from that a new TIE Fighter would give us the opportunity to get an Imperial Engineer minifig - although I fear that TLG will never offer one to us. In 2010, the following themes out of it.City train City new themes Racers Disney Pirats technic Space police 2 new themes starwars still over 2 years and the rest I have no information until today. Thank you very much for that information, legomilk! So there'll be in addition to the Disney line two new themes. And it seems as if Trains becomes a regular City subtheme - I only wonder how TLG wants to sell these overpriced PF driven trains then to JFOLs rather to their parents?! Now wait just a second--!While "Palpatine's Arrest" and "Slave I w/ Cloud City Landing Platform" both lost in the vote, they lost to an amazing set in the "Home One"! Just because two fantastic set ideas lost to an even more fantastic idea does -NOT- mean that they'll never be made! Obviously "Home One" was going to be made first, but clearly LEGO was thinking about the other two sets or they'd not be included in the voting. With ESB's 30th Anniversary in 2010, I would not be surprised to see the Slave I/Cloud City set in the lineup. At all. I totally agree with you, MaxGoof! Palpatine's Arrest seems to have followed only very curtly after Home One. That means that a lot of people would like and buy this set and are perhaps even disappointed that it didn't won. So it would be unwise if TLG doesn't release this set since with releasing it 1. their fans are pleased and 2. they could make good profit with it. Slave One is one of the best known vehicles from the OT. So why shouldn't TLG release a new version of it?! There are surely some younger JFOLs which would like it and some AFOLs which missed the last version (me included), too. Plus they could include one or two new minifigs (e. g. an ugunauth if they add the carbonite freezing chamber to this set - although I'd really prefer to get a seperate new complete Cloud City set). I think the "Transportation" set will win the poll published by TRU and that a new monorail set is on the way (Or at least hope so). I totally agree with you, darkrebellion! The "Public Transportation Center" surely won the poll. I'd really like to see a new elevated train (a re-design of the monorail system is absolutely unrealistic) - this would be a perfect addition to our Cities. The only thing I fear is that TLG perhaps then wouldn't release many shops because "City Square" lost the poll - and a bank, a post office and a greengrocer and/or supermarket are so much needed! Well, let's see. Klaus-Dieter Edited May 4, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 -City (Trains, "new themes" - possibly more civilian stuff, as has been hinted at by this year?) I hope so, Trexxen, but am not sure. Do you think that TLG will offer a bank, a post office and a greengrocer or supermarket to us? So if we get Rock Band and Harry Potter sets that could be our two new themes; otherwise I'm not sure on what the other one could be. Rock Band seems a safe bet to me, though. (Perhaps the other new theme could be The Hobbit?)~Trexxen I don't see some Harry Potter sets coming. Only remember the last movie: There was only one big exclusive set about it and nothing other. Since I'm not familar with Rock Band: Would that be a licensed theme (like IJ or Star Wars) or a regular theme? If it was a regular theme I'd really like it - but if so I'd even fear that TLG wouldn't release it because of the lack of action elements . If it was a licensed theme I really don't see it happen since there'll already be this big Disney license plus the most of the other licences will supposably stay, too. Lord of the rings would imo be absolutely ! Apart from that I don't see it happen since 1. there are enough other licenses so far and 2. the current "Castle" theme is nearly the same like Lord of the rings - pure fantasy . I agree that Rock Band could be a nice addition to City. If LEGO does make Rock Band sets, there probably won't be more than one wave, just my thought. I totally agree with you, Clone O'Patra! Some non-licensed sets based on a rock band - perhaps even in combination with a new TV theme (there are nearly always camera men at the big rock events) would be something totally new and really ! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 What about the return of Dino 2010 . Considering that is the year the theme is based around it would only make sense to revive it. Apart from that I really didn't like Dino 2010 I don't see TLG releasing this theme since there are already three non-licensed themes which contain fantasy creatures and whichs sets will be available minimum until next year: Castle, Power Miners and Space Police. I think the 2 new themes will be western, and then the disney theme When you look on legomilk's list on the first page you can see that there'll be two new themes in addition to the Disney line, legoindy01. Although I'd so much like a new Western theme  I highly doubt that we'll see one next year . After having seen the picture of the Minotauris board game I bet that TLG is going to release a Greek fantasy theme next year - which would mean that then there'll be no Western before 2012. Okay, time for a long list of my predictions:City - Most likely, we'll either be getting a redesign of another subtheme (probably Hospital or Airport), or... another Fire line. I hope we don't get the latter, but I wouldn't be suprised. If we do get the former, however, I suspect that we'll either get a large hospital or a large airport for a flagship set. Perhaps we'll also see a second wave for the farm theme, if the first wave this year does well. Oh, and new trains should surface eventually. I think and even hope that TLG will not release neither a new airport nor a new fire theme, Grevious. Last year TLG asked us for our ideas for new City sets for 2010. These should have been ideas for sets which haven't been appearing for 10 years or sets which haven't been there before. So which sense would this campaign make when TLG then decides to release only the common sets they released the last 10 years?! No, imo 2010 surely will be a year when there'll be totally new themes (at least in comparison to the last 10 years) (btw: when you look on legomilk's list you can see that legomilk already wrote that there'll be new City themes ). Of course that doesn't mean that there can not be the one or other set of a current theme. Your proposal of some smaller planes sounds good: I could well imagine TLG releasing a yacht harbor with a water plane. I could well imagine that we'll see some sort of winter theme since 1. that would be something completely new and 2. the included stuff (Rescue HQ, pisten plate, snow plow, ... perhaps even a cable car ) would offer a lot of action and playability for JFOLs. Btw: When I browse the web I can see many FOLs (me included) wanting a family house . Do you think that TLG will offer us a whole housing area or at least one family house next year? Starwars - More clone wars, obviously, and I'm sure we'll get at least one or two more classic trilogy sets. Maybe a big cantina set or a new Jabba's palace. Oh, and a couple more UCS sets wil probably surface as well. I totally agree with you, Grevious! Imo a new bigger, more complete and closed version of Jabba's Palace is the set I can well imagine TLG releasing in summer 2010. Some Hoth sets are very unrealistic. I fear that we even won't get an Ewok Village since Chief Chirpa is already included in this year's Endor set. If TLG releases a new version of the Slave 1 with the carbonite freezing chamber then there even won't be a new Cloud City in the next years. So the only sets which remain are the vehicles themselves (remake of TIE Fighter, X-Wing, Y-Wing), perhaps and hopefully a little Yavin base and some Tatooine sets. The idea of the cantina is great - but I could well imagine that TLG doesn't want to produce many new OT minifigs in 2010 since we get a lot of this year. On the other hand they'll have to produce a lot of new CW minfigs for their new CW sets. So it would be only fair when we OT fans get some new minifigs, too. If it's greeks, then expect lots of monsters and mythology, not an actual realistic history theme.Whew, that took a while. Good thing I've been thinking over a lot of this stuff for months. Like already mentioned I bet that one of the new themes will regrettably be a Greeks fantasy theme. To your argument for new Western sets: It's right that we couldn't await some Indian sets in the first year of the possible release of a new Western theme. Perhaps even not in the second year. But if it sells well - which I bet - then there surely would be some Indian sets coming out later, too (like I even bet that if the new Pirates sets this and next year sell well then there'll surely be some native sets in 2011). Maybe Legomilk's list only includes themes that he knows are actually confirmed, hence the omissions? I totally agree with you, svelte_corps! Legomilk's list is surely only a list of these themes he knows that surely will come. Nevertheless I think that there surely won't be more than three new themes next year. Klaus-Dieter Quote

(After all, soon after bemoaning the loss of ExoForce, Agents came along...) At least we get a new wave. One of my favorite themes, Rock Raiders, wasn't even so lucky. But I think Legomilk is probably right. At least one more wave of SP3, new themes are always a given, Disney is confirmed, and I think Power Miners and Agents will likely bite the dust. I wasn't terribly fond of either so I'm not too distraught. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Surely only one of the two new themes will be a "historical" or historical theme, Peppermint_M. So there's space for something else, too, supposably even for something only fantasy related such as a remake of Exo-Force or all that other similar stuff. Klaus-Dieter Quote

Klaus-Dieter I think a Greek fantasy theme would be AWESOME if done correctly. Or possibly Roman. But yes, there's still space for something new. Space Police will be our original sci-fi theme for 2010, so I doubt that we'll get ANOTHER new one. More likely it will be something modern, a la Agents. (but not Agents, obviously) Quote

I bet that we'll get some Greeks sets. Although I'd prefer Romans I'd like Greeks, too. The only problem is that whereas Romans could be a theme which could be done historically correct, Greek surely will be the same like the current "Castle" theme - pure fantasy . I think it could be very interesting and I've always been more of a fantasy person than a historically accurate person (in my opinion, a lot of the things we regard as "historically accurate" are incredibly difficult to prove so). I liked Vikings, mostly because it was so original and I think vikings in general are interesting. However I thought the beasts were a little lackluster. I hope that a Greek mythology theme has better looking "myth" models. Also, Greeks and Romans are rather similar in terms of culture, it's probably going to be one or the other. Not too hot on redesigns myself... but then I'm not really a city fan. Quote

mikey Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I think a Ancient Greek theme would be superb! Even if it included mythology, I think the buildings and minifigs would be worth it alone, we can always discard the Medusa (!) head piece, the over size Cyclops figure, and the wings of Cupid, and only use them for special occasions. Imagine the minifig render of Aphrodite! I would love to see a Greek theme, I think the designs could be superb: oared galleys, temples, sacred groves, priests, slaves, warriors, gods. The immortal and the mortal! I would hope for a Persian faction in all their barbaric glory. I think this would appeal to young and old fans of Lego. Offering playability and adventure, and unique and interesting parts. We can decide in our creations if we want the myth and monsters, or to aim for an historical style. Quote
The Bricksmith Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I think we will see a Greek theme from Disney based upon the Percy Jackson book line. Disney is already making a movie for release in 2010 and to me this is where I see a Greek them coming from. Quote
