What sets did you have the option to purchase (new or second hand) but didn't and now regret not doing so?

For me:

UCS Lunar Module from Shop @ Home (I got all the other NASA sets from that line, just not that one :( )

Ice Station Odyssey, I had the option to purchase this set second hand from a local source not once but TWICE and didn't do it either time. Thankfully I was recently able to acquire all the needed parts from Bricklink and other sources and assemble the set (although I wish I had a genuine set of instructions instead of the ones I printed out from Peeron that used up most of the ink on my Cannon ink-jet printer)

8462 blue tow truck (I had the option to purchase this from TRU when they clearanced it out and I stupidly didn't get it)

Harley Quinn's Hammer Truck, I was buying online and it was there but my exact words were "phhff, £30 for that? I'll just get a magnet set to have Harley"

Look where that got me... I can't even find a keyring now!

If a set is cheap enough and I'm not broke, I always buy Lego I have not got from shops like TKMaxx because they often have a few sets then none for six months.

Missed out on the 3450 Statue of Liberty, 10124 Wright Flyer, 10024 Red Baron, 8480 Technic Space Shuttle, and 497 Galaxy Explorer.

Having kids kinda curtailed purchasing the first three, and being a student with no income prevented the last 2 :hmpf:

the modular trio...

CC, MS, GG..

10182, 10185, 10190...

I think this isn't a proper response for this thread. I mean they're still in production, so you can still buy them sooner or later.

I regret not having bought Main Street 10041 and Model Town House 4954. I didn't have enough money for them. There are other sets I'd love to have, but they were released at a time when my parents were the ones responsible for LEGO purchases; I was a child back then. So I don't mention them here.

I was 10-12 years old when these two were released...and they are still my top-two wish sets...

Castle Advent Calendar.

After a friend of mine found it, he bought one for himslef and asked me if I wanted one too.

I said "No thanks; if it's out there, it's soon gonna be out everywhere. And maybe cheaper!"

How wrong was I...

And many other sets. I think I didn't buy big sets before 1997, and many of my most wanted sets are older. Before 1997 I got some sets for my birthday, but one big set in a year is not enough for a greedy person like me. I now wish I hadn't buy those small sets, but save my money for big ones, like the LEGOREDO fortress.

I really want some other sets as well, which were discontinued before I was old enough, including 6542, 6081 and 6399. However, it was impossible to buy them, since they were no longer available when I got money. Now they are available at Bricklink, but way too expensive. Especially the Airport Shuttle.

Many of the old dark grey 9V tracks. Many of the baseplates from 2002 I think, with wide road and grass. And the 10128 for the parts.

Fo the rest, I refer to Queen:

I want it all

I want it all

I want it all.....and I want it now!

The 8455 Backhoe comes to mind. I got one, but I should have gotten at least two. The original $100 price was remarkably low considering how much the set came with.

There have also been various MISB sets on ebay where I forgot about the auction until after it ended and never bid on it, missing out on some great deals.

8462 blue tow truck (I had the option to purchase this from TRU when they clearanced it out and I stupidly didn't get it)

This wasn't that expensive on ebay, at least when I checked about a year ago. It was going for like $150-180 new, which isn't too bad as the original price was $120.

HP - PoA's Shrieking Shack. For some unknown reason (can't remember...) I just never snagged one. Looking back, its def one of the coolest of the HP line.

I wish I had gotten the 4547 club car. *sigh* Now it costs a fortune on Bricklink - $100 US and upwards for a used one, and $300 and upwards in new condition.

That Viking longship. Now I'm actually regretting not getting the entire Viking line.

I agree the Viking like was good and I missed out on it. Another set I wanted as a kid was #10036. It's on Bricklink for only $7 over the original price, I might pick one up.

If we are talking about themes gone by that you never had a hope to get:

Most of Rock Raiders and Alpha Team are on my list. I had the smallest of the Rock Raider sets (but Jet was in it so 's'all good) because we couldn't afford to buy much. However Alpha team was out during my parents first "Lego is not for girls of your age" phase (they had one other when I was doing my GCSEs) as I was in the second or third year of comprehensive school and thus too old for it. I managed to get hold of a few non Alpha Team sets that year (to protests) but could never get Alpha Team because next to Star Wars it was my little brother's favourite theme, so even harder for me to get.

I have bought some of the sets on eBay now which is great, and I'm always keeping my eyes open for more.
