Is our impulse control really so weak that we need somebody to completely cleanse the forums of spoiler pics in order to be surprised when they're officially released?

Posted (edited)

aw.... damn... Pics removed :( can someone please PM me the pics?

edit: Actually never mind I'll wait. I want to be surprised :)

I found it, and it's cool  .

But, to comply with Hinckley, keep it a surprise, honor LEGO's requests, and piss everyone else off ( ), I will not post a link OR upload it to my flickr.

All I will say is this: Yes, there are a lot of Jester hats.

Goodbye :classic:

I am really excited about the RBR. With the price at $250, it will definitely be a very nice and detailed rendition of the RBR. Hopefully it will include a good amount of figures. Princess Leia, C3PO and R2-D2, 2 Rebel Troopers, Captain Antilles, Darth Vader, and 2 Stormtroopers would be great.

So does that mean that the advent calendars might cost $40 and $50 instead of the usual $30?

If so, I probably won't them, since there's already lots of other things to buy. :sceptic:

I agree with every one who has said they would like to wait. I can still remember the excitement when I fist saw CC in a store in disney world. I'm glad that the pictures were removed and I will eagerly await for TLC to release them.

The fact that every LEGO site doens't have any guts anymore and are just LEGO's whores bothers me.

I think that that is an inappropriate comment to make, as I'm pretty sure that sites no longer post prelim images per request of Lego, which is what we as fans should respect. If I am incorrect, then please correct me.

Actually The Green Brick Giant, that's not the reason at all. Being a private site, EB can do whatever they want. Out of respect, EB chooses not to show these pictures. There are many reasons why these pictures are not available. AND NO, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 6 MONTH RULE!

So please, be courteous, get some control over your emotions, and act like an adult! Thanks!

I will like to reinforce my explaination reflecting in the first post. Eurobricks is trying to help TLG to keep the surprise as there is likely to be some kind of coverage that will be done soon in some kind of events. I am sure all of us down here, are very anxious to find out more about this, why don't we give TLG a little bit more time to see what they have in store for us. Meanwhile please be patient, and refrain from making aggressive unnecessary comments such as the one written by The Green Brick Giant above. Thanks.

And it's nice that someone had the guts to say this. I didn't want to start an argument here, but I might as well bring up a few thoughts on this issue now.

Well, this is exactly the problem. I can't speak for others, but I am a fan of the products, not the company. TLG the company, like any other corporate entity, essentially exists to make money for themselves, so why exactly should I respect a purely corporate, marketing decision that has no benefit to me as a consumer? I don't own shares of TLG or have any other stake in the company's financial performance.

This is a private forum and they certainly have no legal authority to tell us what we can or cannot talk about here, so this is obviously a decision by the EB administration. If the images weren't supposed to publicly accessible, TLG's beef is with whoever leaked them in the first place despite signing a non-disclosure agreement, not random internet sites. You might as well block all Brickshelf and Google links too by taking this logic further.

I go to a few other, computer hardware and gaming oriented forums and it's very common to see leaked information and images of upcoming products, so it's especially odd to see this behavior with not just EB, but practically all of the major Lego community sites. Actually, if it was only limited to this particular situation and just to "keep the surprise" I wouldn't mind so much, since it looks like TLG has an official splash planned very soon, but there have been similar actions made here before many times.

All that being said, it's not hard to find the images on your own. It only took me a few minutes on Brickshelf.

I'd check that statement. The financial position of the company greatly affects what it decides to come up with. Lately, TLC has seen a huge focus shift to marketability; flick fire missiles (or some kind of shooting function) are literally on EVERY new action set, and even the City stuff seems to require some kind of function. We're seeing a more cartoony, kid-themed approach; Clone Wars, Power Miners, and Space Police are all very kid-oriented themes, although IMO Space Police has plenty thrown in for AFOLs.

If LEGO had the money to sell what it likes and not what the kids do, there would be more focus on aesthetics, which is what AFOLs like us appreciate most. I don't think anybody here likes the flick-fire missiles, but the fact that LEGO's industry is becoming increasingly crowded means that they're here to stay.

...that's not to say that seeing some prelim pics a few days before official release is going to severely retard TLC's aesthetic principles, but my point is that as a customer of TLC you ARE affected by what kind of financial position they're in. Especially since you're a long-term fan.

I can give you several examples of good financial health of the company having a detrimental effect of what I personally want to see from them. The flick fire missiles you brought up are one example, although I don't mind them much. Obviously, TLG is including those in so many sets because those sets are selling well, and as long as they keep making good profits with their current formulas, there won't be much change.

But this is kind of beside the point. TLG is a multi-billion dollar company, and posting some images on a private forum (legally) is not exactly going to put them out of business or force them to dramatically change anything. Unlike some companies I can think of, TLG actually makes great products and doesn't need to rely on marketing for sales.

Likening TLG to an individual person or a nonprofit organization here is a flawed premise. It doesn't "like" to do anything except make profits. That's what companies exist to do. It's not even run directly by the Christiansen family anymore.
