5 Fort Legorados on sale very cheap would be nice. Never saw that happen though. LEGO never seems to be on sale stupendously cheap here. Usually no more than 10% to 20% off.

But my vote is swaying towards Fort Legorado because I could use that to build my stockade.

i don't think it sold very well... you can still buy small wild west sets in retail shops...

zorro would be a nice connector between pirates and wild west, after all, isn't this time frame of zorro also famous for the piracy at sea? however, there's this voice in the back of my mind saying "hope not, lego would never spend as much time/money/people in a new theme based on movie scenes as they did in the past with the wild west theme"...

set 6765 may be a nice set for a pirate, but only for the parts. As such, both themes aren't really compatible, which is rather normal, one theme is based in the Wild Western desert, the other at sea in central - South America

Which retail shop in which countries still stock small Wild West sets? Are they still in production or is this old stock which hasn't been sold?

6765 is Gold City Junction and that appears to have little use for pirates whatsoever. Maybe the horse, cannon log walls and white bricks could be salvaged but the rest aint much good. Same could be said for 6762 Fort Legoredo except that has a lot of log walls which could be very useful.

you could at least use the windows and doors, the fences, the money, the minifig tools, the logs, the barrels, the horse, the cannon for a pirate ship. Did you even check the inventory list, pirate?

No, I looked at a picture. I'm quite sure I already noted the logs because its the only thing that would motivate me to buy the set for piratical purposes. I don't like the windows and doors because I don't think they suit the pirate theme. All the other pieces are quite useful pieces and can be found in other sets or BrickLink.

ok. but in that case, you shouldn't buy any western set, but just the parts you like via BL...

Yes, you're probably like. But I do like Fort Legorado for itself. I think. Having not owned or even seen one outside of a picture I can't be 100% certain of this.

i agree, the fort is brilliant! I'm just sooooo frustrated that i didn't by it when lego released it as a legend...

i remember i bought the playmobil fort when i was a kid because lego just didn't have one, i would have prefered a lego fort tho...

As I'm reading the recent posts, I'm thinking, use Western sets for pirate parts. This is out of the question for me. Although I like pirates too, my sets will remain Wild West. - maybe use some pirate sets for my western town...

Unfortunately, I don't think the re-release of the Western sets sold particularly well, but I did buy another Sheriff's Lock-up. Just wish I had purchased another Fort as well. I particularly liked the traps in all the Western sets, esp. the Fort.

Would it be possible if someone did a photo review of Fort Legorado? I've only seen the pictures on wensites like BrickSet and LUGNet and they probably don't do it any justice. They're usually too small and always show the one angle. I'd be really interested to see various sections of it up close and what these traps looks like.

i'd love that as well!

OK, OK, I did a photo review. Let me know what you think. I still think Wild West belongs under Trains & Town though - esp if you've ever visited parts of the North American West. This is the world that some still live in.

Wild West just ain't no Castles or Pirates, even if it is before those darn 1900s! dang nab'it! >:(

Yeah, but I think you're missing the point. The Town and Train Forum is for modern themes, while the Castle & Pirate Forum is for historic themes. People may live like this in some parts of Northern America but thats not how the majority of people live.

Correct me if I'm wrong there aren't still forts in the USA like Legorado Fortress, and this particular set was set in the past. Furthermore we're getting a collection of Wild West threads in here so it seems illogical to place one in Town and Train Forum, especially for the above reasons.

It doesn't really bother me where the threads go, I'm just trying to keep everything consistent. Maybe they should appoint you Western Thread moderator and you can decide where they should go. You're the Western expert afterall!

Yes... they are mostly just historical monuments and used for Re-enactments. In fact... in Winnipeg we are have the Festival Du Voyageur every year and it celebrates the legendary coureurs des bois (runners of the woods) who were burley fur-traders (kind of like Vikings... except French...and wielded smaller axes and muskets instead of large axes and swords... and they didn't pillage... and they made friends with the Natives... and wore more fur than armor...so I guess they only looked like vikings from the neck up... (but not past the forehead because they were beaverhats instead of viking helms)...

Anyway... and they hold the Festival Du Voyageur at a large fort that is rebuilt in Winnipeg every (It was actually there back in the 1700s but I guess it eventually was taken down...)

Although it was older it is the exact same design as Fort Legeredo(including open backed building! lol j/k)... pretty cool....

I want The Wild West theme to come back... and Pirates... and good Castle...

There are numerous forts still standing in the U.S. Here's a link to a page with some history of American forts. The Wild/Old West was less than 200 years ago. If you think about it, that's not a long time ago (esp. compared to the Middle Ages in Europe). Also in the Western United States are numerous mine-built towns still functioning (mostly for tourist shops), but still standing in restored condition). Ghost towns and mines are abundant in the western U.S. as well. This was really not a long time ago and some build just around 1900. As a newer unexplored area, Canada shares some of the same/similar history of why these forts were constructed, as trade and travel brought people to the West.

American Forts

I think we should start a petition to bring back the Wild West Theme.

If you're referring to Tasmania, wasn't this established as a British colony in the 1600s, as Van Dieman's Land? If not, there aren't too many countries on the map with a history less than 200-250 years old.

In any case, my point is that compared to Europe and Asia, United States is a much newer country in the world (esp. parts of the Western U.S). Our history is not as old and established as European history and in the "overall scheme", 150-200 years ago was not long ago. It is not uncommon to find buildings around 150 years old still standing, like forts that you asked about. Western towns are still around with mines that have never been sealed.

Not sure why the link doesn't work for you, but you can try searching Historic Forts of the Old West to find similar links. There's quite a few on the web.

To be precise Van Diemens Land (now Tasmania) was discovered by the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1642, but wasn't first settled till 1802. So perhaps I should have said 200 years of European settlement, the indigenous people had been there for 40,000 years.

But the point is there are plenty of historic buildings still standing but they're not operational like they once were. Merely historic sites.

ok, that's a given. I agree. Debate over. You've burried this treasure in to the ground!
