Yesteday, I had the opportunity to speak to someone from TLC and the person explains me nicely why Lego were cheaper in the USA than in Euorpe.

She confirms that the main reason was taxes, and I replied that this couldn't explain everything. She added then that the USA has their own factories (so US lego are not produced in Billund) so they don't need to care about taxes or currencies. Since Denmark is not in the monetary union yet, this ads costs to the price.

She also told me (but not loudly) that producing lego in the usa was cheaper than producing those in europe

This is it

She also confirmed that Lego gives all the product the same prices at the end of the factory and then apply all the costs to the model.

This explaination is quite good, but it doesn't convince me completely... So I have to investigate more :D

Well no Denmark aint in the monetary union , but most big Danish company do handle it all in Euro.

And the price difference is ofen Taxes, wich is very different from contry to contr.

It makes sence to produce sets in the US for the US, then they wont have to use the costly transport over the atlantic..

Asia is another thing, you can drive from Europe to most of Asia....

So thats why they get so much cheap sets!

But how come they are cheaper to manufact in the US then they are in Denmark? And why do we have to pay taxes!!!!

We have to pay taxes to get free healthcare and help for unemployments and so on... Things that USA don't have.

And think that paying somebody to work in a USA factory is cheaper than paying Danes.

In the USA most of the low-classed job are very bad paid and it's quite usual for peopel to have 2 jobs

Yes the minuim wage in America is $5.25 which is a joke.

In the south things cost much less than in the north so they have the $5.25 dollar minuim wage and it is ok for them, you can go to a movie for that much. In Massachusetts it's minuim wage is $6.75 and a cost of a movie is $9.75.
