You mean the tie in for the show, or the original comics dating back to the early 2000's?

If you mean the original comics, I agree. Everything I see of it seems consistently good, even after Peter leaves the book. And I feel Ultimate Peter's fate was handled a lot better than his recent death in the main books. Not to mention their successors. My favorite arc would be the Ultimate Clone Saga, because it introduces my second favorite superhero in any reality.

The Brian Michael Bendis early 2000s one. I didn't even realise they had done a more recent one. I haven't gotten as far as Miles Morales yet, but I wasn't sure about the change when I first heard it.

Bendis's series is still ongoing, they just also have tie-in comics to the show.

Miles is not as beloved with fans compared to Ultimate Peter, but given how Bendis essentially had to create a new character and give him his own cast, I can understand a somewhat slow start. I the general opinion I see is that the books were still good, and getting better, Personally I started following the Ultimate Universe in about 2011, so most of what I know is post Peter's death and anything Ultimate Jessica Drew related. Thus I can't give a long term fan opinion, but I can say I do enjoy Miles.

Not sure where you are in the stories, but they are going to be starting an Ultimates book made up of teen heroes and former villains from Peter's and Miles' runs, along with the usual Ultimate Spider Man book.

Hi all.

I picked up Marvel NOW! point 1 #1 a couple of weeks ago (posted that here didn't I?) and have token a huge interest in Mrs. Marvel. She's Muslim in this version, and wanted to know what comics (I'll take trade paperbacks) I should start off with to understand exactly why I always saw her as a blond and now she's a teenager. That's not to say I don't like this character though. I'll be going to a "nearby" comic shop next Tuesday (Feb. 5) to get her issue, and also wanted to know if anyone else read Point 1 and if they think "Loki: Agent of Asgard" is worth picking up. Also, I really want to get into Spiderman's Marvel NOW! comics before Peter comes back, how many titles are there and which ones should I pick up? And do they still run Spider-Woman for "NOW!"? I'll probably end up getting Superior foes if it's really as good as people say. So to re-iterate my questions, they go as follows:

1. What would be a good comic (series or just a one-off issue like the villains month comics) would be good to learn more about Mrs. Marvel

2. Does anyone here (who has read Point 1) think Loki: Agent of Asgard is worth picking up?

3. How many Spiderman titles does Marvel currently carry and which ones would be a good place to start?

Also, I'm planning on checking out Attack on Titan very soon (it seems to be very popular among my friends) and if anyone else here is into that, stay tuned because I might/will want someone to talk about it with (not like I see my friends as often as I go on this site, I need a life :p).

The new 52 is great, that's where I started collecting comics. I know it's being cancelled at issue 30 but Nightwing is a great series, Kyle Higgins has done an excellent job with Dick Grayson. It might be worth picking up in trade. I've also read Wonder woman ( which is surprisingly good, especially with all the Greek gods ) and Aquaman ( which might be one of the best new 52 books).

Some other highlights are

Flash

Batgirl

Batman and Robin

Superman unchained

And the current big event Forever Evil.

Yes, I never really understand why people say it's terrible, have you read Demon Knights? Ok, so if you're reading Batgirl, please tell me if you're collecting in volumes or monthly issues, I've been collecting volumes since my comic shop was too far away to get issues, though I'll probably start going monthly. And I've heard nothing but good things about Aquaman, if you think he's a joke, read his comics, they're great (I've only read a few). And I was under the impression that Nightwing was getting a new creative team, I haven't been keeping with that, so don't quote me on this. Also been trying to pick up as many Forever evil issues as possible, how many do you own? And villains month comics, the first few I bought were at Barnes and Noble so I didn't get the "3D" effect I was hoping for. I plan on buying Jokers very soon (if I can afford to next week, Mrs. Marvel is currently a priority). Nice to know there are still some DC readers on the boards!

I haven't read any Demon Knights, is it good? I'm loosing interest in Marvel at the moment so I've moved over to DC a lot more.

With Batgirl I'm picking it up in volumes, however I'm ashamed to say that I've only read the first volume. I really enjoyed it however, and I really liked Nightwing Annual 1 which is essential a team up with Batgirl that's awesome. It sums up Dick and Barb's relationship in a nutshell. From what I've seen issue 30 will be the last of Nightwing. A few days ago DC confirmed it was cancelled along with Suicide Squad, Superman unchained and Teen Titans. It will most likely come back as a number one or have Dick take on another Superhero identity. I certainly hope DC don't kill him off, especially since it was only a short while ago that Damian bit the dust.

I was quite lucky with the 3D covers I managed to get all four for Batman and Justice League. However I wish I managed to get a couple more especially Two-face and Flashes Rouges, but since I only pick up Batman, JL and Nightwing In singles I could get any held back at my comic store.

I've got Forever evil 1-4, the Justice league tie ins and Arkham war 1. I keep meaning to see what's going on with Justice League of America and Rouges Rebelion, but there's always another book that comes along and catches my eye. Like this week the Batman and Robin annual is a flash back story with Dick as Robin, I can't say no to that haha.

Batgirl volume 1 was amazing (unfortunately still in the volumes room) but when you do pick up volume 2, come back here, I think you'll love it. I do too love Batgirls relationship with Nightwing, "he with his acrobatics and me with my ballet", shush Barbara you're mine! And I heard Demon Knights was good, I asked you to get someone else's insight. I'm a little sad that Suicide Squad is ending, I really wanted to get into them, at least that will make me collecting their comics easier. Also, by definition Teen Titans story is ending, not being cancelled. I didn't really like volume 1 anyways and it doesn't seem to be popular among fans (or so says the internet). I'll be sure to reply here later when I get my Mrs. Marvel comic, I loved it so much I just can't wait 7 days! Also, what part of Marvel did you shun? Perhaps I should stay away from that when at my shop.

3. How many Spiderman titles does Marvel currently carry and which ones would be a good place to start?

Right now (if we're only counting books where a Spider-Man is actually in it) there's Ultimate Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man (miniseries, soon to return to ongoing), and Superior Spider-Man.

Personally, I'd recommend Ultimate Spider-Man if you're not too attached to the 616 universe. But, even so, Miles Morales is about to permanently be a part of that universe. There are three good places to start with that series.

1. The beginning! Ultimate Peter, teen drama, great writing. I'd pick up the first trade at least to try it out.

2. When the book gets a new number one! In 2009, to set up the "Death of Spider-Man" arc, Bendis and co. reverted back to number one. Although Peter's death and the fallout among his friends isn't so poignant if you start here, it's an acceptable jumping on point if you don't want to collect about ten years of trades.

3. When Miles Morales comes in; skip all that Peter Parker crap, let's get to the current stuff! Some characters carry over such as Spider-Woman, Gwen Stacy, Aunt May, and Mary Jane, but the rest is all new. Only three trades (I think) to catch up on, so not too bad. Miles is in the 616 universe now, so if that's all you're interested in, this would be the only relevant story.

I started at the very beginning and I loved most of it; Bendis' writing is nothing short of fantastic.

I just finished reading the complete run on Dark Avengers and am currently half way through the original first four? issues of the new teen titans! Both are really good, I really liked DA what with the whole downward spiral of the HAMMER program and Normie going crazy again.

Thanks monty, but don't they also carry a "Superior Foes" line, or does that not include Spiderman. Also, (let's pretend you're talking to a 5 year old) did Marvel now completely reboot Marvel or is it a continuation of what was going on earlier before Marvel got the reboot? Also just realized that Feb. 5 is a Wednesday and not a Tuesday, not that it makes much of a difference.

Those are the ones I'm actually interested in at the moment. I think i might check out Aquaman because I'm suffering a serious case of Bat-fatigue...

I don't read Superior Foes but I don't think (don't quote me on this) that it includes Spider-Man. "Marvel Now!" is not a reboot of the universe, it just serves as a jumping on point into the universe for new readers. So this is the best time to get into comics! I would check out issue 1 Daredevil when it releases. I had no interest in the character but then I checked out Mark Waid's recent run and I can't get enough. He's also writing the new series so I imagine it'll be great as well.

Ok, and what about places to "get to know" Khamala Khan? I love her character and I just ant to throw money at everything Mrs. Marvel right now, she was literally the only "good" point 1 book I read. Also, (sorry for all the questions, I used to only be used to IDW, DC, and limited snips of Dark Horse) but where would be a good place to "get to know" Miles Morales? I intend on reading the following from Marvel NOW!

1. Superior Spiderman

2. Ultimate Spiderman

3. Superior Foes

4. Ms. Marvel

and if they have a solo Spiderwoman, you can bet I'll be reading up on that. Other than that, I'm not too interested. But where could I "get to know" Mrs. Marvel? I feel like Khamala just had the perfect introduction, but I really want to know more about her.

For Miles Morales, get the first trade for Ultimate Comics: All-New Spider-Man (what a title!) Here's a link to the Amazon page:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0785157131

Khamala Khan is a new character, first appearing in Captain Marvel #17 in November 2013. I'd recommend just picking up Issue #1 of the new series when it comes out. I'm sure it'll be a fine jumping on point (that'll be my introduction to her as well!).

Also, I wouldn't judge a series' quality on #0.1 or .NOW issues; they're usually no indicator.

Thanks for everything Monty, I'll be sure to buy these Spiderman trades and of course, her new series. With Spiderman and Mrs. Marvel, I think I'll have everything I need/want from NOW! Though I can't imagine myself ever buying Captain Marvel #17, I have a habit of surprising myself, so we'll see.

One more thing, another great book to pick up is Hawkeye by Fraction and Aja. You'll fall in love instantly. A good place to start is the first trade (titled "My Life as a Weapon").

And always glad to help! No apologies needed. :classic:

You know, I actually think I saw the first trade in (I'd like to say) December 2013, was the cover really black and white, with purple "drops" here and there? I was actually contemplating whether or not I should (have) bought it, I believe I left with Batman volume 1, though.

That's the one! Like Waid with Daredevil, Fraction made me invested in a character I had no interest in at all beforehand. Since the release of Hawkeye is pretty staggered and they're only on issue #15/16(*) it should be pretty easy to catch up.

(*) For some reason, issue #16 was actually put on the market before issue #15. I have no idea why and to my recollection this is the first time this has happened with a major publisher since the early days of Spawn.

I'll be sure to pick it up soon! And I mean before the month ends soon, I prefer collecting loose issues rather than volumes, but volumes do technically save me money (at the Barnes and Noble I usually get volumes at) so we'll see!

Also, 2 more days for Mrs. Marvel.

EDIT: Ok so I wasn't going to double post, but I did want to note that today, I got Mrs. Marvel #1! I also got a reprint of Green Lantern #1 of the New 52 which had a back cover wich also served as a "Point.1" similiar to the comic Marvel released in January, however they were both from January 2014, so I guess Marvel and DC both had big plans for new readers in 2014.

I am not a big comic fan, but I would really like to read Batman Incorporated: Leviathan (as recommended by Dayton :sweet:). Hopefully they will have it at Forbidden Planet during half term.

If you like that, pick up the new Black Widow title.

I'm a big fan of Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps comics, But I haven't really read anything before Green Lantern: Rebirth, nor have I started any New 52 comics yet. I also like Teen Titans Volume 3 as well as Ultimate Spider-Man.

After going on Comicvine and re-reading Ms. Marvel #1, I've unfortunately realized that the Ms. Marvel series is going to be a 5 issue series with the arc being "metamorphosis". Can anyone confirm this or am I reading into this the wrong way? Perhaps the first story arc is metamorphosis and the title continues to release books monthly, which is what I'm hoping for.
