Vindicare Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Marvel, mainly Deadpool comics or full Universe events. I just finished reading the 2013 series "Infinity." I love Thanos, so I've read a lot of the Inifnity stuff, such as Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Wars, and now this. If you haven't read Battle of the Atom from a couple years ago, that would be a good pick up. Age of Ultron one from about the same time was as well. I really enjoyed the Infinity story myself. Did you read the Infinity Heist & Hunt series' too? Quote
Vindicare Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 I want to get a few opinions. The current spot where my comics are is getting overrun. I'm considering putting them in the sun room, but the windows as screens, not glass. But, living in California, we don't have the extremes. Early morning's get in the 20's, then we have a few low 100's in summer. Comics are bagged & boarded & in comic boxes. I plan on putting them on pallets or some such to keep them off the floor & cover them with a blanket or something. I suppose they'd just fine out there, yeah? Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Hmm. Not really sure. I don't put much thought into my comic storage, they're just sitting there in the longboxes. I read everything digitally now anyway, and almost anything I have or want is available that way too, so...I just don't even worry about it. I know that's not at all helpful. Sorry! Quote
the Lego scavenger Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Am I the only one that reads the transformer comics that are from James Roberts since 2012? Would love to talk about the series (MTMTE) because I consider it to be more engaging than any marvel/dc comic in ever. Quote

Never been into TF comics, but perhaps I'll give 'em a shot. But if you want an engaging Marvel comic, the Vision limited series that's currently running is pretty darn amazing. Quote
Forresto Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I just read the Darth Vader Comic series. Grade A new canon material! Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I just read the Darth Vader Comic series. Grade A new canon material! For sure! I love Aphra and the murder-bots! Good stuff! Quote
HawkLord Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The current Star Wars comic series, Obi-Wan and Anakin miniseries, and Shattered Empire miniseries are all good. At the rate they're going, I'm also thinking the upcoming C-3PO one-shot this month and the upcoming Han Solo miniseries will also be good. I haven't read Lando, Chewie, or Leia (except issue #1), but all three are coming out in one trade paperback later this year, so I plan to pick it up then. Likewise, I haven't read Vader (except issue #1) but I'll probably just grab the trade paperbacks. Overall, I've found the writing to be very good, the action and adventure sequences to be fun and some of it all just alittle over-the-top. I think that's what I like about it the most - they're not trying to make the movies the only good part about these character's lives. Quote
Junior Shark Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Ditto on the new Star Wars comics. I've read them all and own most of them. The Chewie one was a bit lackluster, IMO. I've also started reading Marvel's Secret Wars now that the paperback compilations are at my B&N. Lots of A+ stuff in there. My favorite comic event series since... ever! Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I was reading the main Star Wars comic, but lost interest after 10 or so, and neither Obi-Wan nor Leia ever hooked me. The Vader series is the only one I'm current on and still loving. (Murder-bots!) As for the C-3PO comic, is that the issue that supposedly explains his red arm? I can't see that being important enough to warrant it's own one-shot, but who knows? I am slightly curious, but only in a looky-loo (looky-Lou?) sort of way. I loved the heck out of Secret Wars! I've been reading Jonathan Hickman's Marvel work since he started on Fantastic Four, so it really was the culmination of years of stories. The delays and padding bugged me a bit, but all-in-all: loved it. (MURDER-BOTS!) Quote
HawkLord Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Yes, the one-shot C-3PO issue explains the TFA red arm. I guess it's supposed to be fairly emotional, like some other droid sacrificed the red arm. Quote
Forresto Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The Murderbots! That whole bit was nuts! I have not read Leia yet but I have read Lando which I think is equally as good as Darth Vader. Excellent art style as well! Quote
Zilcho Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Just read DC Rebirth! Great read, I'm really excited to see where the DC universe is heading. Quote
Sam892 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Just read DC Rebirth! Great read, I'm really excited to see where the DC universe is heading. Totally agree. While some may see it as controversial, it was very intelligent and original. I'm extremely interestet to see what a certain character has done to the DC universe having weakened it on purpose. Plus his affect on the Multiverse, as his medling st the end of Flash point changed Earth Prime, Two and Three. Still I can't wait to see what he does next, he's only been around for two issues so far ( Justice League 50 and Rebirth 1 ) and he's started with a strong body count in both issues. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 As a kid I read every issue of all the runs of DC's Bionicle comics. It was free after all with the Lego Club Magazine. Anyway I am dabbling into actual comics a bit, although I'm buying compiled editions and not individual comic books. I did read Superior Iron Man: Volume 1 Infamous, and it was okay. But the real kick was reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Volume 1 Squirrel Power. Oh my gosh, rolling on the floor laughing type of read. It's such a ridiculous superhero, yet she is such a likeable character and it's hilarious to see the Marvel Universe from the point of view from the most unlikely superhero in it. Getting to see the Twitter posts of different superheroes was an awesome way to recap the previous stories. So yeah I'll probably order Squirrel Girl Volume 2 as soon as I have the money. And probably the other volumes... and the upcoming Graphic Novel... and Bricklink the pieces to make a custom Squirrel Girl to join my Lego Avengers. It was really that good. And it made me laugh. It made me laugh hard. Any other suggestions for other good comics out right now? Quote
Vindicare Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Just read DC Rebirth! Great read, I'm really excited to see where the DC universe is heading. I'm only part way through, admittedly, I'm a bit confused, mainly because I don't know what happened with Wally to bring him where he is. Should I have bought Justice League 50 & Superman 52? I'm already buying too much, but if it'll help understand what goes on in Rebirth, I probably will. How about that Cap twist though... I think it's Red Skull's doing. He was lurking around Pleasant Hill when Steve got his power back. He's definitely strong enough to do it too. It better not last though. It's a stupid change that was unnecessary. For his character, especially. Quote

The only mention of Wally so far was in Titans Hunt number 8 I think which finished this week. Spoilers for Titans hunt In Titans hunt basically Dick Grayson, Aqualad, Arsenal and some other characters discover they were members of the teen titans, although no of them remember it. All knowledge of the team was erased from the world and its as if the original titans never existed. Wally is mentioned right at the end when the discover there was 9 members in the team, but only 8 are accounted for. From what DC has said about Wallys return is that it will be explained in Titans rebirth and Flash rebirth, which should be fun. Edited May 28, 2016 by Sam892 Quote
Zilcho Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 RE Rebirth: I think basically after Flashpoint - the event that began New52, and Dr. Manahattan stole 10 years from the universe, Wally got lost in the speedforce. I think that's basically it. There was a Wally West in the New52 but no-one liked him so it now turns out that he is Ginger Wally's cousin, named after the same person as Wally. RE Cap twist: I'm not a massive marvel fan so I'm not that invested in the character, but I do hope this twist actually has a decent story behind it. So far it seems people are judging it a bit prematurely. I think we should wait and see it develop before absolutely criticising it. Quote

Ha, that's a character I never expected to love, but I've been reading it since issue one simply because I'm a huge fan of the writer. Perhaps you should try some of his other work? Check out Dinosaur Comics at qwantz.com. It's a weekly webcomic that he made for years. It's not for everyone, but it's where I first read his work and I find it absolutely hilarious. There's also years worth of work there for you to peruse, and, bonus, it's all free. If you want something slightly more "traditional", he also wrote the first 25 or 50 (I forget) issues of the Adventure Time comic, if that interests you at all. If you like the style and tone of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, I'm fairly certain you'll dig it. That being said, all of that is stuff from the same writer, and they all have a similar writing style and a similar irreverent tone. There's lots of other things that I read and enjoy that are waaaay different. If you like the Avengers, I would recommend Jonathan Hickman's Avengers series. Some people don't like his stuff, but I find it to be dense in the best possible way and full of cool ideas and stories that constantly build on what came before. (And if you read that and like it, go further back and start with his run on Fantastic Four, since, IIRC, that's where his whole Marvel saga began.) There's lots of other stuff out there though, and it kind of depends on what other things you like. I'm happy to offer other suggestions if you like. Good luck! Quote
brickmasterben11 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I like the DC Elseworlds and Calvin and Hobbes, but any Darkhorse Star Wars comics are mentionable. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I like the DC Elseworlds and Calvin and Hobbes, but any Darkhorse Star Wars comics are mentionable. Calvin and Hobbes was a junior high school favorite of mine. Although I wish it had ran longer, I admire that by dropping out early it has forever remained fresh. So many newspaper comics are stale after 30+ years of running, and in 9 and a half years Calvin made a bigger impact than those ancient long ran comics. Quote
Japanbuilder Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Don't have access to western comics around here. But Ive been reading Noragami a ton. The initial run was a lot of fun and that is not usually my type of Manga. The original Eureka 7 is also on my annual re-read list. Love that manga. Quote
HawkLord Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Bought the first issue of the Chewbacca solo last week with the last issue of Obi-Wan and Anakin and the recent Star Wars. Chewie was good and I'll probably pick up the other four to complete the series. Still unsure what's happening with the main Star Wars comic. I think the current arc is going to end after issue #20 next month and the new arc will focus on troopers, but it also looks like Luke, Leia, and Han will still play some part. Quote
