Pirate Pete Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Hello Christians, Pirate Pete here boldly saying to the world that I am a Christian and want to spread the Love of Jesus Christ to the world Via the internet. any other Christians out there?
Siegfried Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 As a pre-emptive warning, let's not turn this into a conversation about religion... Carry on!
Natman8000 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Ohh boy, here it comes. This is not allowed on this site. Manners and Serious Topics: Don't be offensive to other members. We like Eurobricks to be a friendly place to discuss LEGO and won't allow posts that are intended to offend or attack. For the same reason, topics about religion or politics are not welcome on Eurobricks. This unnecessary and exclusive and totally off key. And I'm not saying this because I'm Jewish or anything, just because its the truth. Edit: Nevermind then. Edited May 19, 2009 by Natman8000
Ak-47 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) Umm... really??? Ist a topic called "Christians Unite!"? Couldn't you go on a religious forum or something like that? ~Ak-47 Edited May 19, 2009 by Ak-47
Derek Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) With this community, I'm scared of the possible outcome(s) of this thread... Edited May 19, 2009 by darthperson
Hewman Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) I'd prefer not to see topics like this here. This is because it's a pretty harmonious place and such topics can arouse some very strong feelings in some people that may cause unnecessary conflict here. To the starter of this thread, I have noticed that there are several members here that put references to Jesus in their sigs, when you come across them, maybe send them a private message. I'm not quite sure why there would be a need for any specific religion Lego fans group as Lego is inherently non-religious. Of course MOCs with religious themes are very welcome and there are some fantastic examples of these around the place. Peace Hewman Edited May 19, 2009 by hewman
dhaas06 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I don't understand the acronym, CFOL. Does this mean that being a Christian takes away one's classification of "adult"? That seems to be pretty extreme... Also, what happens when the Christians on Eurobricks come out of the cracks and unite in a topic? What then? This really doesn't seem to have any purpose; it's just a fluff topic. I respect what people believe, but spamming non-related forums is counterproductive to any cause, Christian or not.
Derek Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) I personally don't care what anyone here believes in, but I will respect it either way. However, as good of intentions as you had, Pirate Pete, I personally can't see this topic going as you meant it to. This is such a diverse board, and many of these people have quite the mouths on them, its just a recipe for disaster in my opinion. Its up to the Mods if they want to intervene now, or wait until later... I personally don't follow a specific religion, but I do believe in God and Heaven. Welcome to Eurobricks! EDIT: Uh-oh, Its turning into a conversation about religion... Edited May 19, 2009 by darthperson
5150 Lego Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I'd prefer not to see topics like this here. This is because it's a pretty harmonious place and such topics can arouse some very strong feelings in some people that may cause unnecessary conflict here. I'm not quite sure why there would be a need for any specific religion Lego fans group as Lego is inherently non-religious. Of course MOCs with religious themes are very welcome and there are some fantastic examples of these around the place.Peace Hewman First off, I'd like to say that i am a born Again Christan and am very proud of it. I have no problem talking about my religion to others, or those that would like to learn/know more about it. I also respect other religions. I will never knock someone for there choice of religion regardless if its not the same as mine. That being said,i have to agree with most about starting religious topics on sites like these. I've been a member of many different type of forums over the years. (mainly automotive) and the 3 things that I've found that really gets people going and starts problems are discussions about 1.- Religion 2.- Politics 3.- Firearms (guns) None in any particular order. I have no quarrels with keeping this one open, as well as others of different religious backgrounds starting there own threads. Cause if i don't like what i read, i can just not click on the topic.... But unfortunately, many for whatever reason, can not do that and always have to put in there two cents. Many times just cause they want to get a reaction from someone. And its not like were talking about a movie, or your favorite comic book hero. Religion is something that someone generally is very set on,and will not sway away from no matter how many "Facts" you try and throw at them to convince them other wise. So if we can keep things cival, then i welcome this thread. ..But unfortunelty, the interent has proven that topics like these in public forums are rarely kept so.
ProducePrincess Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) As a pre-emptive warning, let's not turn this into a conversation about religion...Carry on! How does that work out? If it's a topic about religion and you say that we shouldn't turn it into a conversation about religion then all the posts will become off topic and then the admins will have to close the topic because of the massive number of off-topic posts .Oh im so confused I'm fine with peoples religions but i perfer not having religious topics on a lego fourm , it leads to bad things. Clone OPatra Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Pirate Pete, could you clarify the purpose of this thread? It is great that you and many others (myself included) have strong faith in our respective religions, but it is unnecessary on a community forum of toy enthusiasts. As others have stated, your intentions may be sound, but in a diverse community you never know who may step forward and start to bash another group. I sincerely hope that does not happen, and I'm sure most members would never do this, but it is still a possibility. Instead of opening a discussion topic about this, you could create a Christian themed MOC to present your beliefs. That way, you can constructively discuss religion while still referring to and using the thing that this website is all about, LEGO. This would also allow you to contribute to the entire community and not only to people who share your beliefs.
Darth_Legois Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I agree with what pretty much everyone said here, Christian or not. Also we should only have to discuss one thing on this site, LEGO And I dont really see what making a topic about it will do?
Hinckley Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Sorry everybody. I am closing this due to the fact that our guidelines state such topics aren't allowed here. From our Guidelines: Manners and Serious Topics: Don't be offensive to other members. We like Eurobricks to be a friendly place to discuss LEGO and won't allow posts that are intended to offend or attack. For the same reason, topics about religion or politics are not welcome on Eurobricks.
