David85 Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 No one made a swimming topic? Yet we have two biking ones..... So I made one up. :P American Michael Phelps is kicking everyones megablocks. Last I heard he won 3 gold medals and 2 bronze and he still has three more events to swim. He's only 19 too so he can be kicking megablocks in like the next 3 Olympics too. :D Quote
jonfett Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 Yeah, I saw him in one of the events.. can't remember which, I think it was Medley. He was at least 5 metres in front of all the others and he even broke the world record (by about 0.5 seconds!) He had the chance to win 8 gold medals at the start but now he has lost a few of the chances, I reckon he will get 4 or maybe 5. He is a great swimmer, specially since he is so young. As you said, he will be around for the next few olympics.. but will he be better then? Or is he at his prime now? Jon. Quote
David85 Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 I was thinknig the same thing, are swimmings in there prime when they are younger or older? There was a women that won a medal and she is 27/28 so I guess he still has two more Olympics left in him. Are you sure it was the world record or the Olympic record they are different most of the time and I didn't hear about him beating a world record. Quote
jonfett Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I was pretty sure it was a world record. After a bit of internet searching I've found it. He broke his own world record by 0.15 seconds to win the 400 metres individual medley in 04:08:26 seconds. That was his first Gold medal on Sunday. I hope we see some more records beaten. Jon. Quote

So do I, I love the swimming part, I missed the diving part if they even showwed them at all. The water events are ending through which is sad because I don't care about the other events. Quote

David85 Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 I wonder how many medails will europe get for this games... Europe is not a country so I'm going to have to say none. Quote
Jipay Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 USA was not really a country either ;) It's many state united together. Mayb one day europe could be like this, but I'm not hoping for this :) I prefer individual counties, after it's too big Quote

Jipay Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Australia is a country but also a continent itself :P Quote
jonfett Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Australia is a country but also a continent itself I thought that the continent was called Oceania, which is made up of Australia, New Zeland and some other small islands surrounding them. Jon. Quote
Jipay Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Yes but what are they compared to australia itself ? And if I'm right, australia was used as a prison by England. Damn, the continent jail  Quote
jonfett Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Ahem.. in Apo's absence I think I had better say the 3 vital words.. BACK ON TOPIC!! :P Today Michael Phelps won his 5th gold in the 100m butterfly, he still has the chance to win one more though. At the start he had the chance for 8 but he got bronze in the 4x100m freestyle and 200m. Now heres a bit of olymipic history for you! Mark Spitz has won the most swimming golds at one Games, he got seven gold at Munich in 1972. Jon. Quote
David85 Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 I thought they said if he won 8 medels he would tie the record? Of course this is NBC over here, they are dumbies. But I do know that he has vowed out of the next race. After winning 5 golds, and two bronze I'm sure he is tied. Do the Olympics count Asia and Europe as one continect because there are only 5 rings. Quote
jonfett Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Another swimming medal for Britain today. David Davies won bronze in the 1500m freestyle, he was 2 seconds behind the American winner (forgotten his name!) and he beat his own personal best by 12 seconds!! I would be almost dead if I swam 1500m in that time! These guys are good! Jon. Quote
David85 Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 Micheal Philps got 8 medals, 6 of which are gold. Quote
