Bazziman Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Hi guys...what packs are reasonable options to go for for some serious Troll / Orc army building? There are no battle packs like with the knights and the skellies. The single orc with the cart / cannon is okay-ish but it lacks a shield and buying just that kit kinda kills any variety. Ideas? KimT Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Bricklink.com or eBay.com should have a great deal of orcs and trolls to be bought. They're expensive though, at least compared to the set prices. I guess we'll have to wait and cross our fingers for serious battle packs with some trolls and a few orcs. (They've done something similar to both the City theme and Star Wars theme - why not the Castle theme? ) Quote

Yeah..I guess it's cheaper to buy 5618 and rearm them a bit (bow / arrows, shields etc.). I think it would be cool to have a battle pack with 1 troll and three small orcs - one with a spear, one with a bow and arrow and one 'leader' with a shield and a sword - for the price of the skellie battle pack or something. Zorro Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Buying discounted Troll Warships is a good way too! Just sell the ship parts on eBay or Bricklink since those are very wanted. And you get an armoured dragon, a dwarf and a knight with it as well! Quote
gogobig Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 You can make a big orc army for about $1.50 per orc if not cheaper. Simply get on bricklink, buy some torsos (preferably green, yellow, brown or black) some black legs. several heads (green, yellow or brown-depending on which color you want to make) various helmets and weapons and thats it. Got to brickshelf and put ORCS and many decals will pop up. Get sticking paper (Office depot $7 for 20 sheets) and print them. Then simply apply the printed stuff on your torsos and you got your orcs. Thats how I did it and made another 40 orcs just yesterday. This is an alternative way; much cheaper and fun ;) Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Making decals is indeed worth trying! By making them yourself you can add your own details on it. Furthermore I haven't really more to say since gogobig told you everything already. Quote

U dont have to make them yourself eiher, there are pre-made ones, just give the credit to the original author and thats it. I bought around 500 torsos simple , heads and legs from bricklink and now they are all turned into castle soldiers. Pretty neat ;) Quote
lrdofbricks Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 your best bet would be to get every troll set once. that shoild give you around 25 trolls and all their buildings and artillarry. Quote
Razzer Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Well, the knights and the skellies have battle packs...it's just the orcs / trolls that seem left out. Not to mention the dwarves, I think we'd all like to see Dwarve and Troll battle Packs. And for me the best ways to build up a sizeable troll army is to but multiples of either 7037 Tower Raid or 7040 Dwarves Mine Defender as you at least get decent sets to go with the trolls unlike the impulse which is rather well... pathetic. Also this way allows you to get the differant troll torsos and helmets as well as armour, so you can build more variety into your army. Quote

Just two types of torso and that's it for the warriors. In case of an 'organized' faction (crownies) I don't mind soldiers in a unit wearing the same uniform and helmets - but a horde of orcs looking all a like is a bit silly. Basically they all have the same helmets too. I did get a lot of the impulse sets already - just to get me going. Too bad they included a rat instead of a decent shield....I also ordered some decal paper (I have a very good printer at work) - now I need to get my hands on green-handed-torsos (haha) Quote

It's okayish (I like the cloaks) but it doesn't have the variety the human pack had though. Quote

Now we're just waiting for a confirmation if there is a Dwarf Battle Pack. Quote
