Thanks for the great review

I like the comparison between the models.

I seem to be about the only person that likes this set. I just love the shape over the standard OT Y-Wing. The minifig selection is a but meh but I'm sure i would be able to live with it. Thanks for the review .

You're not alone Skipper 24. I like it too...:laugh:

Ok the minifigure selection is poor with ahsoka and anakin and

yes it's a bit pricy for what you get in comparison to other sets,

but it's still a nice set.

Although I would understand if people will buy other sets before this.

Will vote average if a poll is added.

I happen to be a fan of this set, as well. I agree the minifig selection leaves a lot to be desired. A clone or an alternate pilot would have been nice, but I really like the design & shape of the ship, plus it will add some variety to the standard grey/blue or red/white palette of the Clone Wars sets that have been offered so far.

I like the new Y-wing as well, the figs are the only thing i don't like.

This might seem a weird question but can you fit the clones in the gun turret/cockpit?

NO ROTATING TURRET??!?!?!? THAT'S ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE PARTS!!!! :sing:

A nice german parlance: Stay lithe...

The set looks decent, but it really has nothing that attracts me. I don´t like starships, I don´t need yellow, I don´t need a fourth TCW Anakin or Ahsoka and the R2 will appear in another set in the future. The only interesting point are the dome pieces for Ahsokas cockpit. Seems they improved the "solar cell" domes from the past.

I would have liked individual pilots like Broadside, but LEGO seems to don´t want to produce Phase 2 pilot helmets. I really don´t get it: They made a new mold for the Hoth rebel glasses, which was more than unnecessary and they still refuse to make accurate helmets from figures we see quite often in SW.

Nice review!

That is because this is anakins ship. His ship has alternate colours to the rest of the squadron.

What this means is where the clone Y-wings are white anakins is yellow and vice versa.

hopefully this means we will get another ywing with alternate colors and clone pilots as a special edition set or somthing. i would rather buy that.

about the rotating turret, can anone see an easy way to make it rotate and still keep the design right?

that is probably why TLC didnt make it rotate.

it has a nice design, but i dont need it and already have too many anakins and ahsokas so i wont be getting this set.

great review though!

That is what I'm thinking about for the last days...

Good review, I am unsure whether I will buy this set, it really is expensive.

Rotating turret?

Not that hard: I`ve done it.

Ah yes, that's the way I'd like TLG to have done their version of this craft.

Wow, and people say Hoth is overpriced :hmpf: . In NZ, this this is double the price of the last Y-wing.... That's crazy. I'm glad i don't collect CW

I won't know for sure until I build this, but I don't think it's anywhere NEAR as nice as the Republic Fighter Shuttle, which costs the same amount.

Seems over priced and no good peices or functions. The R2 firing device is pretty cool, but other than that, theres nothing but a storage place, and as for peices, the white might be okay, but who needs yellow.

And why did the clones use Y-wings, but then later the rebels are the ones using them?

Sorry this didn't come out as clearly as I wanted: Its exaggerated by purpose - nobody wants TLC to reduce the box size to the absolute minimum. Even with your points, a box 50% of the actual size would be enough. But making them so big as they are is not good and gives a lot of points to argue about: Why are they so big, what effects does it have (transport costs - environmental impact) and so on ...

Another point: It is close to impossible to hide the new boxes. The average detection time for my kids / wife (even worse) is about 60 seconds - and then the struggle starts. No way then to build the set without interference. Smaller boxes could be hidden in the normal shopping bags ;-)

Regards, Jan

to give some insight into the decision... the box sizes are determined by the end users.

1. consumers like value for money. unfortunately this means bigger = better. because it is not possible for the average buyer to figure out how many bricks or parts are in the box (unlike the old 80-90s design where you can see what you get), a bigger box gives the impression that you are getting more for your money.

2. retailers also prefer bigger boxes for the same reason as you mentioned. despite the advances of modern technology in prevent shoplifting, there's nothing better than the old fashion big = difficult to hide technology. so even as retailers like smaller boxes to maximize on the retail space, for lego however, since the retail value is large enough, the theft prevention is preferred over retail space savings. besides, lego is a high margin toy which doesn't sell on volume alone. so it's not like they need to sell all the sets in one day.

another reason why the lego boxes went from tape sealing back to sealed boxes. did you see how many vandalized boxes there are in walmart?

that's why we only saw 7% reduction in volume. the only true saving was in the form of standardized packaging. less downtime having to sort outwhich size to use. save on printing template, and mostly in the packing and shipping process, i.e. how many boxes to fit in a standard container/truck, etc.

I had been wondering why we'd gone backwards, and that sort of makes sense, in that SW sets seem to be more prized for minifigs and thus more vulnerable to theft, but why then was it that the US produced versions of the 2 big flagship Clone Wars sets of 08 - the AT-TE and the Gunship - had the sealed tape box and not the 'rip & tear' version which was reintroduced for the European/ rest of world markets at the same time? (I know as I bought these 2 from a US ebay seller prior to release and was really surprised to see the difference when the sets were released here in Australia).

What are the new 09 US sets using? Does anyone know?

I find this incredibly annoying as its ridiculous that you have to shell out so much money for an expensive set and can't (a) open the box without destroying it a little (b) flatten it or easily safely store it.

Great Review

I got this set at nearly half price and I must say I do like it.

The mini-figs didn't bother me at this stage as I didn't have any of them.

If this had a rotating turret that would just be perfect.

To answer my own question...

Yes they can, but the pilot cockpit can't close fully because of the "fin" of the clone helmet.
