This is a thread for Members of the 501st Legion, Or Cosplayers or just genre Costume enthusiasts.

When I am older I would love to join the UK Garrison of the 501st Legion, For those who don't know what the 501st Legion is (No not the one out of the ROTS).

It is a worldwide organisation, This is written on there website:

"...The Legion is a volunteer club formed for the express purpose of bringing together costume enthusiasts and giving them a collective identity within which to operate. The Legion's aims are to celebrate the Star Wars movies through the wearing of costumes, to promote the quality and improvement of costumes and props, and most importantly to contribute to the local community through charity and volunteer work..."

They go to Expos and such.

Anywho, Any members of the 501st Legion here?

Anyway, anyone a Costume Enthusiast?

I'm actually the treasurer of the "Cosplay Club" at my college. I make several different types of costumes (ranging from otaku, to period wear, to other more specialized ones) and may even be taking commisions for fursuits in the fall. Our group will be going to our first convention together this summer :)

Nice!

Actually I went to the MCM Expo Excel in London on Sunday and it was great, Although I didnt go dressed as anything...

Cool, I'm actually in America. I live on the east coast so there are alot of conventions around me.

Where abouts? Theres most proberbly a 501st Legion Garrison near you.

The 501st UK? I shall have to put you in touch with my tame stormtrooper then.

As for the MCM, lucky you, I missed it this year (exam/revision) but I am going in October!

I have cosplayed Final Fantasy twice, Steampunk twice, Dieslepunk, as Harley Quinn and in october as Death from Sandman.

Nice.

Im only 15 though, So I wont be able to join the 501st, Let alone, Afford a costume for a few years yet. But I wanna save for one, You can buy cheap ones from america for around £400-1000. The best ones are £1000 that have all the microphones clipped in and everything.

Yeah, the 501st has some strict rules about costume quality. The UK Garrison doubly so.

My friend wants me to join at some point but I cosplay for fun, not super duper accurate (just as accurate as I can achieve.) My Death costume is going to be really easy :classic: .

Well the 501st wants people to spend around $3000, on costumes, But I dont wanna be spending much more than say £1500 within the whole time I create my costume. But I dont see why they care so much when its a charitable organisation, They cant gain money so why do they want members to spend all theres on costumes rather than donations?

Yeah, that's what I want to know :hmpf_bad:

All I can tell is the guys who "clear" the costume for the public to see under the 501st banner are really fussy and strict. So the most expensive stuff is all that is good enough. I think they want to look the best and be the best compared to the other "garrisons" in of 501st and in comparison to other costume clubs. You can be something other than a trooper though, they have "Legends" from comics, films etc.

Last time I pocked my TK about it I didn't get anywhere in finding out why they are so fussy. (They even have rules about how you can act when in costume, no breaking character, or heaven forbid, smile).

I was originally going to go as Darth Vader, But alot of responsibility is being the main scary guy, Rather than being a Stormtrooper. But, Stormtrooper armour is really nice, But I still would love to be Darth Vader.

Stormtroopers have these upsides:

Blasters

Hundreds of Costume sellers

Hundreds of people the same as you

Awesome Static Burst microphone style speaking

Scares people

Darth Vader has these upsides:

Awesome Breathing

Deep Voice

Lightsaber

Scary

Very Tall person

Darth Vader professional voice changers are hard to find.

EDIT: I just found out that about 30minutes away from me, near Twickernam is a famouse Stormtrooper making company called Shepperton Studios, They made the original molds for the movie, and were sued for a few million by Lucas Arts for remaking the same mold. There pretty expensive but very very accurate.

Cool. The armour is very expensive for the custom moulding, the extra little details and all the work done to get it into perfect shape, plus any electronics you may need (vocoder, fan etc) and any padding you have to add. my friend got it over the course of a year, he was cleared when he was 16. But then costumes are his hobby and he is nuts.

16? I swear you have to be over 18...

Anywho, The Shepperton Studios do the expensive accuarate armor but can you see the diffrence between these two:

Costumejunkee:

Shepperton Studios:

sds1.jpg

Its £900 for the CostumeJunkee, which includes, Fans in the helmet, Blaster, Boots, Helmet, Mic, Pauldron.

And its £900 from Shepperton for just the armor and a black suit. You have to buy the blaster, helmet and boots seperatly.

I'll have to get TKPinky's verdict on it all. I have no idea about the full rules, regulations or anything like that. He will know what is wanted and why. All I know is that some things need really detailed moulding that some costume producers don't do, or gloss over. I asked him how much it could be to get a Knight Saber's hard suit made... I would have to give up Lego and my plans of moving out...

I think it is the more you pay, the better the detail.

I'll ask tonight and link the pictures. You've got plenty of time to get it together :classic: .

I do it when I get the chance. Last month I went to a local Sci-Fi convention and here's a photo of me as a Ghostbuster...

I (unsurprisingly) made that myself, but I have some friends who spend thousands on Batman and Star Wars costumes...

Heyoh

So. TK2289 consulation tells me that the suit you linked can be purchased for £500, if you look hard. Shepperton is display only. He advises you to sign up on the forum (after all, Eurobricks is 18 over only) but you must be 18 to have the full kit (growth etc) .and ask around to get more help. When you seriously want to be a trooper. If you join, msg TK2289 and he'll give you a hand.

Is he Matthew Mainwaring from the UK Garrison?

Yes, yes he is. Stormtrooper, Crewman, Gunner and The Spirit are the costumes I know he does/has made since I met him. Drop him a line and mention me or eurobricks and he'll know that you are the potential trooper I mentioned.

I was also bothering him for Robotech Expiditionary Force armour help last night. A costume I have wanted for quite a while.
