I hope this qualifies for "Car Talk". Does anyone have a personalized license plate? I do and you can probably already guess it.

It's either your username or it has to do with corn flakes.

Where you going to talk about any of these cars, like why you like them, or did you just post half the supercars that are currently made since it's a car thread?

JCC, I don't have a personalized plate becasue I don't like to draw uneeded attention to myself.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking about the words "Car Talk" instead I was thinking "post pictures of cars you like"and I sincerely hate myself for waisting everyones time. Please forget my post ever existed. Also, how do you delete posts? I will make everyone happier if I delete my post.

CloneCommanderDelta7, I was being dumb and forgot to resize them. That is true about races and horsepower, but mostly I like the cars looks not performance.

Agreed. You might not even be intentional. Just an accident. Someone is more likely to remeber a personal plate than your vehicle.

Legolink, horsepower isn't everything! In smaller motocross tracks the 250s might buzz by faster or for instance drag races; whoever gets the better start practically wins the race.

While i see your point, in general, cars pared up for drag racing are generaly running within a few tenths of a second from each other. (when running heads up) Thats why races are generaly won at the light "tree".

I was looking at some customisations for cars and I saw the Chrysler 300c. Now I love the look of that car and if I were to get one, I would love to put Suicide Doors on it. Make it look like a Limo/VIP car, but not too "Blingy" with BIG rims and stuff, that would ruin it. But I had a thought...If "Autoloc" sell hinges and a "automatic remote door opening system" in some kits, how would you make the door handles in the right place without ruining the look of the door? And the latches connect?

But how did they change the door handles from this?:

TorqueOmata17.jpg

To the Autoloc model they had:

HDHIXX.jpg

And I can't believe I used to want Lamborghini doors (scissor doors) on the Chrysler, look how stupid it looks:

chrysler_300C_gallery.jpg

Now I know many of you will say "Don't get them, they are specifically named Suicide doors for a reason e.t.c." But I would want to know how. You never know, it might turn out well!

Edited by Joey Lock

Well, if you want to suicide the rear doors, you need to find a respectable body shop to weld in the flipped hinges, to relocate the handles, you need to first cut out the factory handles and remove the mechanism from the door and weld them in on the other side of the doors, and pretty much just flip them around, stick the left door locks on the right and vice versa. Then remove the door latches and move them to the B pillar to close the doors...oh and you cant forget to re-route the wiring with extensions from the B pillar to the rear if you still want to have power windows and locks.

Its a very costly job to re do the door handles just because there is so much fabrication that needs to be done to make them functional and look right.

If you have lots of money to blow, go for it, I personally think its too much $$$.

Well remember I am only 15 so It will be a matter of years till I get a car, so I have a long time to learn DIY skills and get money.

I don't understand how the door frame still looks the same once the door handles are taken out. So the latches wouldn't be too hard to remove yourself would it? I mean, I could get someone to do it but as you said its expensive, so I could have plan it out and then do it throughly?

I don't mean to walk in talking about nothing here, but I just felt like saying I 'officially' have a vehicle (truck). It's a 1988 GMC. My father has had it since 1989, I think, and asked me if I wanted it.

Still looking for a reasonably priced Hot Rod/Muscle Car though. I may have found a 70's Cuda (Plymouth) for less than $10,000 that a guy took ownership of because somebody was not paying rent. I would just die if the Cuda had a matching numbers Hemi in it, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't even have a Hemi. Still, if it runs good, under 10,000 would be a good buy for it. Not hardly any rust.

Congrats on your "new car" That Cuda seems like a good deal, but you should inspect it to see if it runs properly.

I mean, A Chrysler 300c in Autotrader can start from 8k-15k which is pretty good for a 4-5 Seater Luxury saloon you can make look more luxurious.

I just thought Suicide doors would make it looks nicer, but I could just get some chrome exterior pieces, a good front grill, nice smooth Walnut Burl dash kit and some new seats or interior colour.

How much are we talking for a fitting? If its more than 3-6000 Im not going for it, Ill just do it myself with some friends.

EDIT: Also the hinges don't need to be welded I don't think. Heres the kits.

A good fabrication shop would rather have these brackets welded to the body, bolted to the door and with added support metal, these kits are good, but for a heavy door such a a 300C door, there runs the risk of bending the bracket or breaking, I've seen a few of those AutoLoc "Lambo door" brackets just snap in half.

The door handles are the tricky bit in this instal because once you unscrew the stock handles, you are left with an indentation of the part where your hand goes under the handle and all the holes for the handle, those would have to be welded closed, smoothed out with body filler and re-painted, a high quality show would buy a new door skin, cut it up to move the indentation for the handle to the front and re-weld in the new skin.

Or go the slightly cheaper method to get rid of the handles all together and go "shaved doors" this would save the hassle of moving around most of the door hardware and would require only filling of the stock holes in the door skin, but that would still require repainting of the whole doors to get the color matched properly. and to open the door, you just get the remote that "pops" the door open.

I cannot get you an exact cost of this install due to every shop charging different rates for different work.

...I just quickly looked at the 300C forum, the few people that actually went through with this say the cost was between 5 to 8 grand! ouch!

This is what you get for 8000$:

(just for doors and paint)

A friend of ours that knows the guy told us that it runs good, but unfortunately has no title. I know where to get car titles from, but if we could get one for it is another story. I sure hope so.

While i admire your willingness to learn and want to to the work yourself, this is not a job that should be taken lightly. Like Polish guy said, there is an extensive amount of body work and fabrication needed to not only pull this off, but make it look good but function propperly as well. The "kit" your looking at is a generic one. Meaning its not made for any specific vehicle and there for even more fabrication will bee needed. Remeber, your talking about supporting the the full wieght of the door in an area of the car that was never meant to support said wieght. So renforcment of not only the rear door jam is needed, but also the door itself. The rear quarter panels would need to be cut off to add metal to mount the hinges. The door would also need to be re-enforced. Then there's relocating the door handles, patching the old door handle holes, re-wiring, and of course repainting the doors and rear quarter panels. I'm not trying to discourage you or say your imcapable of doing such a task, but you should understand that the skill level needed to complete such a job is very, very high. Not something you and your buddies can tackle in a weekend. It would take a professional around 2 to 3 weeks of non stop work. If you feel this is something you'd like to do, i'd sugjest you start working as an aprentice at a body shop asap. if you stick with it, you might have the skills and experiance to do this yourself when your in your early mid 20's.

As far as price goes, your looking at around the price you seem to have in your head. Like Polish Guy siad, around $8K. That comes to about 5,500 euros. But also, keep in mind the profesional tools needed to complete the job. Welder, body tools, etc.

You would need to cut out the metal around the door handles and relocate it to the front of the door. Then you would need to do some metal work and fill in were you cut out the stock hinges. Again, this is by no means a simple task.

Nope. The hinges will need to be welded in. There's no kit in the world that would be bolt on for this style door. if the company makes such a claim, there lieing.

Chances are for $10,000 your not going to have a hemi or anything number matching. A hemi engine alone is worth around 10-15K none running. But even so, 10,000 should get you a faily decent cuda!

No reputable body shop is just going to bolt a suicide door kit to the rear door frame. This is an area that was never designed for the wieght of the door. like you said, it would just buckle under the wieght without some kind of re-enforcment.

I put down a deposit on a new (used) car at the weekend:

Pick it up next Saturday and I can't wait! Soooo many gadgets and such a cool looking car! I'll post some more picks when I've got it.

You are young and like most people including me, you proabbly see sopmethign and think I want that without thinking about the future. Suidicde doors on a 300 is stupid, just as stupid as lambo doors. The resale of your car will go in the gutter because no one wants a hacked up car.

It's cool for a show car but for everyday use, it's not silly. When I was younger I put a bunch of modifiacations on my Honda Civic even racing stripes :sadnew: I grew ut of that phase thankfully, if you liked lambo doors a while ago and now think they are stupid, just think about what you'll think of suicide doors in a few months???

I had those same thoughts when I was younger...even though I'm still just 19 I no longer think those funky mods are cool.

I used to think the giant spoiler, "coffee can" muffler, Lambo doors, decals, body kits, huge monitors, wild interiors, etc. were the hottest things on the planet.

Fast & Furious Yo.

I still do buy mods for my car, but they are sensible that can be taken off, just performance mods, and just bolt-ons. Because If I were to sell my car, I can take those off, convert my car to stock, sell the car, and sell the parts separate.
