Posted May 31, 200915 yr Dear all, Reading the reponses to the review of set 8039 done by 'Bricks', I noticed some people requisting a side by side photo with 6211. So, hereby I wanted to show some comparing shots of set 8039 vs. 6211: The folder containing high res photos: link to the brickshelf folder Kind regards, Teddy Other photos:
May 31, 200915 yr Author Thanks Teddy, nice comparison It sure is smaller. Thanks Future74, I just checked the piece count. For set 8039 it is: 1170 pieces For set 6211 it is: 1367 pieces So those 200 bricks make a lot of difference size wise. Kind regards, Teddy Edited May 31, 200915 yr by Teddy
May 31, 200915 yr thanks Teddy weren't the two sets the same price too? I think they were close. And 6211 came with more and better figures.
May 31, 200915 yr Author thanks Teddy weren't the two sets the same price too? Well I just did a little price searching. If I'm not mistaken these were the Lego S@H prices: the 6211 retailed in 2006 for: 99,99 Dollars or 149,99 Euros the 8039 retails currently for: 119,99 Dollars or 139,99 Euros So in Dollars the deal is quite poor, in Euros it is okay. I guess our American friends are suffering from the weakness of the Dollar of the last couple of years. kind regards, Teddy Edited May 31, 200915 yr by Teddy
May 31, 200915 yr I think they were close. And 6211 came with more and better figures. Yes, but the 6211 was released three years ago. So you can't really expect the products to be identical for the same price. Either the piece count stays the same and the price goes up, or the price stays the same and the piece count goes down. I guess for the US it feels different as only recently has the flagship summer set been retailed at $US119.99, whereas the price in Europe and elsewhere seems relatively stable at around 140 Euro. I imagine the peak oil prices (before the crash!) affected production decisions for this wave too.
May 31, 200915 yr Your probably right, Svelty. It just seems like the set could have been larger, and had a couple more figures. Its crying out for a unique officer or jedi.

Well, I totally agree about the figs! As I said in Bricks' review, if a licensed line like Indy can have four new figs in one $11 set (7195) it's appalling they couldn't throw in something better than what we get here. Even 2 more Senate Commandos would make this a whole lot more appealing.
May 31, 200915 yr Wow that just goes to show how stubby the Venator is. I am seriously hoping for a UCS Venator to make up for this one's short-coming.
June 1, 200915 yr Wow, thanks, Teddy. You may have talked (shown?) me out of it now. Maybe if the price comes down to $90US or so. Anyway, thanks for the pic.
June 1, 200915 yr Thanks for the comparison pictures, Teddy. The Venator is extremely small when compared to the ISD. When I first saw it, I thought that it looked larger than the ISD. I might still get this, but maybe not. By the way, which ship is supposed to be smaller in the movies?
June 1, 200915 yr I think the isd is actually bigger in the movies, but that's not a good excuse for it to be way shorter
June 1, 200915 yr I just looked it up, and the Venator was actually 463 meters shorter. ISD: 1600 V: 1137 So it seems pretty justified. (Sorry, just felt like sharing what I found out.) But let's still be mad! GRRR!!!
June 1, 200915 yr Thanks! I was having a debate/discussion with a friend yesterday about how big this was in comparison to the ISD... and look what magically appears!
June 1, 200915 yr Wow I don´t think it was all that shorter . I am really thinking of skiping this set now looking at the minifig selection and the whole set itself, it just look unfinished to me for some reason.
June 1, 200915 yr Wow, the Venator looks like crap next to the 6211 ISD I might get this just to pretend to myself that I didn't miss the ISD at the Black Friday sale
June 1, 200915 yr Has none of you guys heard about the new Lego pricing policy? Past the 100$ mark, they have the eight to charge an extra 10 cents for every piece they choose not to add :-p Unless it's Power Miners, then they have the right to charge you double what the regular price per piece ratio is
June 1, 200915 yr Author Thanks! I was having a debate/discussion with a friend yesterday about how big this was in comparison to the ISD... and look what magically appears! Always glad to help. Alhough I read some negative sentiment towards this set, I actually like it. The ship is much smoother then I initially thought, when seeing the preliminary photos a couple of months ago. And my girlfriend (who is a star wars fan) likes it as well. (Which counts for a lot in our household. ) Kind regards, Teddy
June 1, 200915 yr With all this going on, I'm going to get it and give it a makeover. I have done something similar in the past.
June 1, 200915 yr I just checked the piece count. For set 8039 it is: 1170 pieces For set 6211 it is: 1367 pieces So those 200 bricks make a lot of difference size wise. I agree, but there is the other thing: if you take a look at the exterior it's obvious they used larger pieces on the Imperial Star Destroyer. Well I just did a little price searching. If I'm not mistaken these were the Lego S@H prices: the 6211 retailed in 2006 for: 99,99 Dollars or 149,99 Euros the 8039 retails currently for: 119,99 Dollars or 139,99 Euros Again I agree, the price of the Venator is (almost) the same as the ISD was. In Euro's that is. I got my ISD about two years ago. Alhough I read some negative sentiment towards this set, I actually like it. The ship is much smoother then I initially thought, when seeing the preliminary photos a couple of months ago. And my girlfriend (who is a star wars fan) likes it as well. (Which counts for a lot in our household. ) Looking forward to building it. It hasnt got the rough edges the ISD has and it looks more solid, which adds to the swoosh factor. Be glad your counterpart is also a SW fan I have to argue to keep some space for the collection, not even talking about spending money on it Edited June 1, 200915 yr by Future74
