I got this set for Christmas and agree with what everyone else has said; the chariot is too large for just one horse and is unrealistically designed. However, the figs are great (especially the king) and the pieces all come in great colors so it works well as a, kind of expensive, parts pack. Plus, both orcs have shields! Can't complain about that. And the dark brown spears look great.

Two days ago I saw this set being on sale (-50%) in Marko shop and couldn't resist buying it for only 10 euro. I still have to open the box but then some higher power must have put this great review right on top of our History forum. I'm very pleasantly surprised seeing the amazing torso of the king, I had no idea what was underneath the armor

Both the figs and the parts (dark blue, pearl gold) are the best features of this set!

And my thanks to Clone O'Patra for making this perfect review! TLG should be thankful there are guys like yourself making reviews for their products.

Great review Clone O'Patra. Very helpful and detailed.

I saw this set last week while I was in a toy store buying the Drawbridge Defense and the King minifig caught my attention. I'm not a castle set collector but there are some sets that are worth buying IMO.

The bad thing was that the price was €25 and this stopped me from buying it.

Now that I've seen the piece count too I'm even more dissapointed because after looking at the review I like this set even more. The King minifig is exceptional!

Nevertheless, thanks for the excellent review again Clone O'Patra!

P.S

Tonight that's New Year's Eve we traditionally play card games here. Who knows....

Ugh... come on, that has to be one of the worst designed castle sets ever...

And it IS overpriced!

Thanks for your contribution to this great review.

What about the set don't you like?

Thanks for your contribution to this great review.

What about the set don't you like?

- the price (OK, not really a property of the set itself...)

- a horse held with chains (it seems weird to me)

- unnecessarily big wheels

- those pikes look as if they were about to hit the horse, not an enemy...

- ...and the crossbow looks as if it were about to do the same...

- overall, the chariot looks too "violent" for a king's charriot, in my opinion (oh wait, it says "King's Battle Chariot", but still...)

- compare this to the Lion King's wagon from 1995... no contest here

Love the pics in this review. Excellent. And the figs look great. I just picked up the figs offa' eBay ala carte...

...but the design for this 'chariot' looks awkward. Not as creative as it could be coming from the great builders at Lego. I think this is a rehash of set 6044? Which looked more like a king's carriage with 2 horses in the front (not sure of the model #). And on top of that $20bucks US is waaaaaaaay too much for only 100+ parts. $15dollars tops...TOPS!

What they should've done with this set is not to give the king a vehicle but rather make it a kind of unique battle pack. Deck out the King with chrome gold crown, armor and sword with this same horse (horse with chrome gold armor and helm) and then have the king flanked by 2 or 3 other horsemen (maybe 2 horseman and then a squire). Make it his personal guard...so they also have unique chrome helms with plums, shields, chrome weapons and unique horses also with armor. THAT would've been a winner. Not this clunky chariot (were there chariots in Medieval times?).

great review! i really appreciate all the work you did for this.

i was never really interested in Castle as a kid, nor am i now, but the figures here really make me like this. if it was $15 i would get it for sure... somehow $20 just doesn't seem justifiable.

Thanks for the fantastic review. Local TRU having discount on this set and revisted both reviews for this set. The review has a nicely balanced mix of positive views and negative, which was good and will definitely help lighten my guilt when I spend my money on it in a few days time!

Oh, and has anyone modded the set to allow more horses to pull the Chariot? If so, links please!

I had been to TRU a few times checking out this set but passed due to the price. I always felt is was over priced. TRU over the weekend had a buy one get one 50% off on most of their LEGO sets. So making this $10.00 it became more then tempting. It was a done deal! Very pleased with it for the amount I paid.

What an awesome review! You covered all the bases, very detailed and creative report. I picked up a set from Amazon which also is selling this for about $16.70ish. The piece count and general design was a concern, but I couldn't resist a markdowned LEGO either.

Cool review, because you made this set look really good. I don't think this is a bad set either, but for the same price, there are other better sets than this. If it was $15, I'd buy it, so nice find you got for $16
