Just, what? It's Galidor all over again, except the figures have ball in socket joints instead of peg in hole joints. What would've been wrong making these completely Bionicle-like? Then all of the Bionicle fans would've gotten tons of new part, and we could all be happy that they're still at least LEGO. But this?

Did kids actually like Galidor? Because if they didn't, I have no clue what LEGO is thinking. And everybody guessed this from the beginning…

I still don't see how you guys can compare this with Galidor. To me, it's clearly more like Bionicle.

They are completely Bionicle-like! Just look at them! They have the same "skeleton" as bionicles, but with new pieces for the head, forearms, and "armor". They just don't have as many Technic holes on the outside.

It is what I would say. They can't be compared with Galidor (that pratically have no connection with Lego besides pins :hmpf_bad: ). And well, it is in fact more Bionicle than system (so it isn't Exo-force or Knights' Kingdom like).

I just want to know how is the "skeleton". I hope it is a new body or something like that. And who knows, maybe the pieces that don't have much technic holes hides more than it shows(maybe they can be mixed with system? )?

The faces look like prototypes yet, look like they are in a different material...I just hope they have a "skull" or something to place it in the body.

Uhhhruggg.

Come on, LEGO. These are REALLY bad. I was expecting something like the Toy Story "Constuctaction" figures, but you have let me down. You cancel pirates and Indy, and potentially even castle, and then put this stuff out? There's no way these figures will sell 1/10 as well as pirates. Scrap these while you can and make more Indy/pirates/castle!*

These are REALLY bad.

Seriously, what's SOOO bad about them? That they are highly posable? That they look very similar to their cartoon counterparts? That they are similar to (and compatible with) Lego's popular line of Bionicle toys?

If most people don't mind Bionicle, why these?

I just don't get it.

Oh why, thy favorite industry of Scandinavia, why must you bring us monstrosities of products? You killed the great theme of sailing ships and sea robbers, then allowed the theme of greedy miners to expand for another year. And you made a theme of oceanic creatures and bulky parts.

Well, on the bright side. I do like those Arab parts from the POP theme.

Truth is, I agree entirely with you on the sets being bad. However, you can't blame LEGO for it, they have a very nice business strategy.

Bionicles are very popular among kids and preteens. However, Bionicles are relatively cheap. Lego Ben 10 is basically a series of "licensed" Bionicles.

Since licenses are more expensive, LEGO could market them like Bionicles, then they have a money-maker on their hands.

These sets were clearly not released for the AFOL demographics.... just because you don't like them doesn't mean LEGO can't make them. Besides, the reason you don't like them is probably because it's whole design wasn't made to target your market, it's also the same reason LEGO still releases Belville and DUPLO. There's always a market out there, it just isn't always yours.

Plus, I don't think LEGO is intentionally scrapping Pirates and Castle. Pirates and Castle have been released periodically over the years, and every few years they go on a hiatus, and later return with a bang. Pirates and Castle are money makers, LEGO isn't going to scrap them. It's the themes like Atlantis and Power Miners that won't return once they are scrapped. Just wait a few years and more sets will be released.

I know, I know...

I was tired and kind of ranted.

I guess I'm still a little sore from losing Indy and pirates. I was expecting these to be brick built, and was underwhelmed. The main reason that I don't like them is that at least Bionicle uses a varitey of parts, and reuse them with different colors. These are just like giant molds and only look like 5-10 pieces for each figure. But I'm starting to rant again...

Oh well, it is just a kid's toy. Someone will like them. They may even grow on me

Oh, and I'd have to disagree with Power Miners not returning. It is just a remake of rock raiders, so 10 years from now, they'll be another underground theme :classic:

And as for the pirates/castle argument: "But I want them NOW!"* ( )

*(That was a joke, please do not flame me for it  )

Technically... Atlantis is just another one of those "underwater themes"... so there are some recurring factors to the themes that LEGO seems to bring back over and over again.

But I think that LEGO should do what they did with Knight Kingdom regarding Ben 10. I would love to see their minifig take on the aliens, they would be great if LEGO kept to the standards of the new Space Police figs. The modern look of "anime hair" from the human characters will also do wonders for city themes regarding variety.

They should just release 3 or 4 system sets to go along with these "Bionicles".

Well, to me, these actually look nice. They don't look like the Galidor sets at all to me. Those had no moving parts, right? Just a one mold piece?

These actually have joints, so I guess that it can be compared to BIONICLE.

Also, keep in mind that these were made for kids aged 6-12 (or something like that), and that these are not aimed for AFOLs (those huge, highly detailed and expensive sets are for AFOLs).

I think these will sell like hotcakes.

Not to me! But when I told my nephew there was going to be Ben 10 Lego, I could see his brain exploding with excitement before my eyes.

I imagine that these will be perfectly fine as serviceable (if a little rough looking) action figures. The tricky job for Lego will be able to establish market presence, since there's already so many Ben 10 action 5" figures on the shelves.

I 100% agree with this post.

It seems like they aren't so much aiming at us as they are the younger cartoon watching generation. And seeing as they often take to big action figures with lots of posability this is the best route they could have taken. Not only are they action figures, they are 100% customizable! This is perfect for any kid who wants to make his own alien, or any fan of Ben10 in general. And there are LOTS of Ben10 fans out there, the whole idea of a 10year old turning into these crazy aliens is just appealing to kids. Hell, it seems like anything where the kid is the hero is well received by kids.

I won't be buying any, but I'm sure my little cousins will be. They just seem like great toys for the younger generation of kids.

And who knows, maybe we will get the aliens in minifig form later down the road depending on the sales performance. I was planning on getting tons of the aliens if they were minifig size to go with my Lego space collection, but oh well. I'm glad we're getting this for now, my wallet needs a break anyways.

The only thing I don't get is why these aliens look different than the normal ones like Heatifre(?), Ripjaw, Ghostfreak, etc. The orange guy looks a bit familiar.

Wow...and I though these pieces could be use for Mocing Bionicle sets...

If people can MOC Galidor with Bionicle, you can certainly MOC Ben 10 with Bionicle.

That's because the LEGO Ben 10 theme is about Ben 10: Alien Force, not the original Ben 10 series. The aliens in Alien Force are completely different than that of the original Ben 10 series.

The bulky toros and head pieces are a disappointment, but I suspect that there's more useful parts underneath.

I'll probably get at least one of these sets, because they contain at least a couple of BIONICLE-esc pieces in rarer colours. All the pieces definitely look BIONICLE compatible, but a lot less match BIONICLE in style that I had hoped. :sadnew:

In regards to the sets selling, BIONICLE sets of a similar price point seem to have taken a mini-hiatus, so the 7-10 year old target audience of BIONICLE have less BIONICLE to buy, and would most likely love Ben 10 as well, so the combination of the two brands would be too much for them to resist.

I see these as sets that will end up in those toy bags at thrift stores, so I'll get them there. I'm liking the parts and the design a little, but there really could've been... more to them.

I'm afraid it will be a disaster. It looks like it has too less building ways.

I saw in the book of my local lego dealer

8409 Swinging Ape, Blue with light-blue actionfigure

8410 Swamp Fire, Sandgreen with red action fig

8411 Cromoleon, Blue with black action fig

8517 Gigantosarus Rex, Red with tan action fig

8518 Jetstream, Red with yellow action fig

8519 Big chill, Blue with black action fig

I will not buy them, but maybe some other people are happy with it. :sadnew:

After looking over those pics, I can say one thing-They may have ball joints, but no way in hell am I going to be able to incorporate that into a Bionicle MOC. Galidor over again indeed.

Looks like Digimon gone wrong.

Can someone catch me up? I had an interest in these. The only picture I've seen was the red guy. Where are the rest?

Scroll up, there are pics of the blue and brown one. Actually, you may have to search, I'm viewing this at 40 posts per page, if you are viweing it at less you may have to go back a few pages.

I change what I said, the leg bits look like they might be of use, but they are really ugly and I'm not sure where they would work.

but they also feature plus-rod holes instead of pin holes. That alone makes them VERY useful. That and the colours. I think I'll pick up one for the parts and that's that- the rest of my toy budget goes to Bionicle, Atlantis and Nanovor.
