Has anyone found any MOCs of the book series "The Edge Chronicles"? If you don't know what it is, it's very steampunk with flying pirate ships, floating cities, a different world called simply The Edge, and involves many characters.

I love the series and thought it would be a very good source material to MOC from. Anyone found any MOCs or share this opinion?

Written by Paul Stewart, illustrated (well) by Chris Riddell. I think the first book was published in 1999, the last one (#10) was published earlier this year.

I have read the entire series of these books and I certainly recommend them to avid readers. ihaven't seen any MOCs based off these books, but I guess it is sort of like Steampunk.

Oh yay!!! I LOVE 'The Edge Chronicles'! I've read books #1 and #2 and have started #3. My lovely wife on the other hand...has read the whole series and is the one who got me into them. I have yet to see any MOC's based on this series. Oddly enough...I was having this exact same thought about two days ago so your thread is very timely (for me). I am planning to build some various MOC's based on 'The Edge Chronicles' as soon as Brickworld is over. Not sure what my first one will be but some of my ideas are.

* The Edgedancer

* Flabsweat's Exotic Animal Shoppe

* The Stone Gardens

I'm sure there are tons more things like the 'Bloodoak Tavern' and what-not that could be built as well. The world of 'The Edge Chronicles' is so amazing and would make an excellent fan-developed LEGO theme. Glad to see other people are thinking about this as well.

Speaking of skyships...Hinckley built a nice skyship awhile back. IIRC...it was called 'The Brutal' and was on display at Brickworld 2008. Correct me if I am wrong, Hinckley.

I love this series and have read books 1-9. I was just thinking the other day how nice a ship would be. I didn't think that many other people read these books though. This would be such a better liscence than Ben- 10. This truly has everything TLC could ask for, vehicles, locations, characters. I think I know what I'm building today.

I'd say some were between 3 and 4 but closer to 3. Like a 3.3? I haven't read Series of Unfortunate events in so long though so I'm not sure.

This is so exciting! I absolutely loved the series and can't wait to see what people build.

To answer the question on the level of writing - I'd say they are on the level of Chronicles of Narnia, especially once you get past the first book. They are quick reads, but you cover three generations of one family throughout the series, so there is plenty of "ah ha!" moments. I too have been mixing in some youth novels and this is one of the better series I have found. Enjoy!!

I'll have to look into these. For some reason I've been faciniated with steampunk/victorain-sci-fi recently and this looks like a nice fantasy twist on that.

And as to the reading level scale, I'd say between a 3 and 4 as well, leaning a little bit towards the three, but it is much more mature.

Also, I can't wait to see everyone's skyship MOCs. I would try to build one but...I fail at MOCing over half the time. If I had maybe an entire three days devoted to JUST MOCing, all my collection in one place, with a few hours of thought, I may be able to come up with something decent.

I'm working on a microscale version of the edge right now! I think that I will use it as the background of a larger ship but does anyone have any ideas for the characters? there are so many and I can't find anything that works well.

That's a skyship. It looks like a normal ship in a way, but that large ball thing in the middle, enclosed in the cage, is the "flight rock". It's a buoyant stone that keeps the ship in the sky. When cooled, the ship rises, when heated, it lowers. Sorta like a mix between a ship and a hot air balloon. :)

Except for the fact that when it's hot, it goes down instead of up.

Well, same concept.

I built the city in miniscale last night but the ship in miniscale is giving me trouble. I think I will have to wait until I get a hull and some masts before I attempt it in minifig scale.

If you are into steampunk pirate novels, try the Larklight trilogy by Philip Reeves. They are brilliant reads and very well illustrated. Warner Brothers is making a movie based on the novels due out around 2011. Because of WB and Lego's prior relationship with lines like Harry Potter and Batman, I am crossing my fingers that Lego will make some sets from the movies.

They are one of my favorite book series ever, after the discworld, harry potter and middle earth. (check them all out guys). Just typing in lego edge chronicles gives up some MOCS on images. Also, did anyone else see the Ninjago raid zeppelin and see the MOCing possibilities for the edge chronicles.
