Captain Blackmoor Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think the new cannons look better, but I dislike the red bases. The new cannons look great with brown bases and wheels. Keep the good work up! Quote
lego fox Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 What would happen if you pout a fals flore over the guns or a rased deck for sleeping or eating above guns in the back, its just a thought but it werked on a ship I bilt a long time ago. but sadley it went the way of the dodo berd with no proff of exsistenc. By the way were would my balsa wood bout fit into that rating sistem? Also I've got a larg Brikbilt hall thats about the same as the balsa one that I don't think wood fit ether. Quote
Chiles Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 Does 8 cannons seem right, or should the ship have more/less? Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Does 8 cannons seem right, or should the ship have more/less? Looking at the pictures of your ship you'll need at least 10 as it is now. It would depend on weither you are making a top deck or not i think. Any new pictures? Quote
Chiles Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 I'll try to get some up soon with a small crew, I haven't had much progress but I might try to work on it some today. Quote
Admiral M Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) As for crew, here's what I suggest: If you are going to keep the floor open (so you can access the cannon, as in brickbeard's bounty) I recommend 8 sailors (7 in the hull+1 on the masts), 3 soldiers, 2 officers, and one captian. If you are going to but a top deck over the cannon, you will have more room, and so I recommend 12 sailors, 8 soldiers, 2 officers, and a captian. have you made any progress? commander Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 it looks like quite the ship! the stern is a wonderful work of art, and it looks as it will be defensive in 3 of 4 sides......good planning! Quote
Admiral M Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Actually, commander, if he puts carronades (is that what they're called?) at the bow, then it'll be 4 sides. still, it's almost impossible to defend the fore and aft of a ship: even one cannonball, going full speed through the stern, could and did knock out large portions of batteries; a single shot could kill a hundred men if luck was with it. Not much progress but I changed the mast a bit. I removed the huge brown things that lead to the crows nest and took the crows nest off completely to put a Redcoat flag up there instead. Currently I have: 1 Admiral [needs admiral hat] 5 Fully equipped soldiers [all my soldiers have yellow eps] 3 Soldiers needing muskets 2 Soldiers needing Shakos and Muskets 2 Artillery troops [these have red eps and tricorne hats to differentiate them from the rest] In the mail I have 4 more troops coming in in which I will only need 1 Shako and 6 Muskets. In total, I will have 1 Admiral 8 Fully equipped Soldiers 5 Soldiers needing Muskets 1 Soldier needing a Shako and a Musket 2 Artillery troops [these have red eps and tricorne hats to differentiate them from the rest]. When complete, I will have: 1 Admiral 14 Fully equipped soldiers 2 Artillery troops [two men per cannon]. I plan on putting one man per cannon, 1 Soldier on the mast, 1 on a cannon at the front [Which I need to put on there], and one on a poop deck cannon. The admiral will be controlling the ship of course. What do you think? Their weapons will be in barrels round the ship. Quote
Ratshot Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 What do you think? Their weapons will be in barrels round the ship. Sounds like a pretty good crew to me. Quote
Lego_Warlord_8 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 this ship looks better than MY fist ship . lookin great! keep it up! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The ammount of crew looks perfect too me, not too crowded and 2 men per cannon. I want the same but I need at least 88 crewmembers then. Good luck with the ship! Quote
Admiral M Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) This is really coming along, I also like to do an all-soldier crew. I think you got the right number. The ship will turn out great! What are your plans for the cabin? Edited June 24, 2009 by Admiral M Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 This is really coming along, I also like to do an all-soldier crew. I think you got the right number. The ship will turn out great! What are your plans for the cabin? I'm thinkingthat the best option is to map out the studs in the back and make a LDD design and just order it offline. In fact, ill do it right now! Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 LDD Design is done and I plan on ordering it sometime in the next week or two. Its not complex, but it will get the job done. I've also added ammo for cannons and parts to finish my front, which also isn't as complex but for my first ship, complexity isn't the goal. Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Well here's some images. The roof of the cabin where the Admiral will go is connected by some 1x1 pieces and a good 80% of it is just flat surfaces, this allows easy removal of the ceiling to put in details into the cabin and have access to it so it can have some playability. The pieces sticking out of the front will be the connections to two ladders which will lead up to the top of the cabin, this takes away the need for bulky stairs. I made a diagram with pencil and paper to map out the exact coordinates of where the connections shall be. When I receive the product I simply must drop it into place and voila, a cabin! Quote
Admiral M Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 It looks great! Much more detailed than my first! Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 It looks great! Much more detailed than my first! Can't decide though, should I change the window frames from white to black? Or leave them. What do you guys think because I'm ok either way. Quote
Admiral M Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 They look good as white. but I think you should make them lattice windows, if you have any. Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 They look good as white. but I think you should make them lattice windows, if you have any. Only have one pair and I can't find any more. That means I need three more pairs that I don't have a clue of where to get D: Quote
Admiral M Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Only have one pair and I can't find any more. That means I need three more pairs that I don't have a clue of where to get D: Bricklink is always an option, but for such a small order? I don't know... Quote
Chiles Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Bricklink is always an option, but for such a small order? I don't know... That is true, I'm currently trying to do last minute ebay steals (as any other sneaky person would do) so I'll try to ind them over time. Until I can get more sets, the current ones will have to do. Quote
Admiral M Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 That's ok, because it looks fine with normal windows. Quote
Chiles Posted June 25, 2009 Author Posted June 25, 2009 I've updated the ship some, go look at the first post to view! Quote
