Shakar Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Hey, thanks for the replies guys. Didn't except them, seriously. @Shakar: Why not Yellow and blue? When used correctly and with a well-designed set, that color combo could kill. Hey, great idea! Didn't really think of that. That would be wonderful.I got Tuma recently. He's got some pretty good parts compared to similar sized titans in the last 2 years, including lime mantax feet and five lime mahri blades. IMO the only problem with him is that he has a stickered helmet. Well, thank you but I mainly wanted to know about the figure (sorry if I wasn't clear). I already knew he had good parts and I don't have many problems as far as stickers are concerned but.. does he look any good?@Shakar; I am curious, why do you think Tarix sucked? I thought he was one of the best Glatorian. Beat Skrall, Malum, and Strakk by a long shot. (Vorox and Gresh can never be topped though) Well, I'll try to explain why I don't like him:1)Don't like the helmet shape. Why you ask? Can't find a reason- I just dislike it. 2)The weapon handles are way too long. 3)Too short: the use of the Metru legs on his legs is a big mistake IMO. Since he's pretty much an Inika (not that there's anything wrong with that, as far as I'm concerned), this makes him too stocky looking for my tastes. 4)The feet. They're too huge. Well, those reasons do feel a bit weak but, sadly, I can't explain further. I guess he comes of as looking too short-stocky-big footed looking to me. His design, IMO, seems rather non-innovative (aside for the Inika shoulder as chest armour- but even in that case, I already used that in a lot of my MOCS...not to mention Vezon back in 2006 already made use of that) compared to the other 2009 canister sets (And Skrall's and Strakk's body, Vorox's tail, Gresh's whole design, Kiina's girly torso). Zip is right, besides the gold he is....boring. Shakar Quote
Bundalings Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Eh, what is Velox? Not even Bricklink recognizes it.Tarix is one of the most short lived sets I ever bought. I thought he would have been pretty cool looking, but when I finished building him I realized how bad looking he was: I hated his helmet, he was too short and stocky, he needed more Mata blue, the way he held his weapons was weird..I quickly destroyed him. If you bought him for the pieces, however, you should be pretty happy: the Mata blue pieces, the golden peices..oh well, guess you know which pieces he has if you own him. You should have bought Stronius IMO. He's standing in front of me and boy do I love him. My favourite 2009 set so far, with Mata Nui and Gresh coming close second(s?). I gave him the extra Skrall shield I have and he looks awesome. Love his helmet, love his armour (great use of the mace halves on the legs), love his club...he makes the Skrall look megablocking ridiculous. Yes, he's that badass. Shame he doesn't show up in the movie... Yes, do a Kiina review please! I haven't seen any good review of her yet, and I'm still thinking whether getting her or not... aw shoot, I'll most likely get anyway - Lego needs to be encouraged in doing girly looking sets and Kiina sure is girly. Don't care about the mediocre Vastus, Gresh's awesomeness makes him useless for my collection. But still, do a Kiina review. Blue sets used to rank highly in the canister gang for me (love Takadox and Hahli- Faxon= ), but this is slowly decreasing..Vamprah was awesome but Gali Mistake-a sucked. Tarix sucked but Kiina looks promising. Also, I think the colour schemes should be more innovative. What happened to the GITD blue in Takadox and Nocturn? What happened to the incredible dark blue+lime green combo? I loved those. Kiina brought back the much needed light blue (clawed light blue Inika feet FTW!) but I wanna see something new......orange and dark blue anyone? Shakar Whoops, I meant Vezok. =P I don't own him yet. I just ordered him from Amazon. (on sale) I'm buying him for the pieces, mainly. I also like to collect sets. Stronius is cool. I'll get him later. But saying he's better than Skrall means nothing to me... I hated the Skrall set. It's freaking ugly (in a bad way. Nice pieces, tho). K, I'll see about it when she arrives. I absolutely loved Gali Mistika... after I fixed her neck. And lowered her shoulder armor. Seriously, it made no sense. At all. Hunchback + tall shoulders + original gal = ??? @Shakar; I am curious, why do you think Tarix sucked? I thought he was one of the best Glatorian. Beat Skrall, Malum, and Strakk by a long shot. (Vorox and Gresh can never be topped though) Beat... Strakk? ;_; You make bunny cry. ~Bunda Quote
VBBN Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 1)Don't like the helmet shape. Why you ask? Can't find a reason- I just dislike it. On the other hand, it's a perfect looking Gladiator helmet, and I love it. 2)The weapon handles are way too long. The only way he can hold them. 3)Too short: the use of the Metru legs on his legs is a big mistake IMO. Since he's pretty much an Inika (not that there's anything wrong with that, as far as I'm concerned), this makes him too stocky looking for my tastes. Agreed, I would have liked a new legpiece. 4)The feet. They're too huge. And the one thing I have needed since the inika came out. Bfahome Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The only way he can hold them. And that's a problem. They could have at least added some rods coming out of the back of the hands to make it look better. Currently he looks like he's holding a long-handled blade at the very end, which is pretty awkward. Quote
Ikki o' Moopyville Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 These sound like some rather minor problems y'all bring up with Tarix -- just switch his legs, feet, and give him some handles for his blades. Heck, you can change the length of his weapons however you like, since the blades attach at the top only! Sure, he's not perfect, but he's easily fixable. And when it comes to LEGO sets, that just encourages me to get him. Seriously, he looks regal. Could use a dual-colored helmet, but still. Like some king of Atlantis or something, with all the gold and silver and everything. Totally different: Mata Nui DESPERATELY NEEDS a keetorange Metru chest on a black Metru hip. NOT the current opposite way. It like... boggles your eyes. -Ikk Quote

It like... boggles your eyes.-Ikk So true. I've been thinking that since we first saw him. The set's color layering is so close to perfect... so close... Well, no, not really. The upper arm double sockets should be black and the lower arms should be keetorange, but that's not as painful as the metru chest. What's sad is if we had that prototype mini Keetongu we could fix these things. =/ ~Bunda Quote

I don't have much of a problem with the arms -- to me it looks like his upper arms and hands are armored, while his lower arms are bare. May not make much sense logically, but I can definitely see it when I look at him. The length is slightly odd, too. Tried fixing it with shorter upper arms, but could find no good way to attach the Crescents. Oh, and REMEMBER: Telluris has keetorange Metru legs if you wanna try out that on Mats. =P -Ikk Quote
Phantoka Kopaka Nuva Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 OK, so normally Wikipedia shouldn't be trusted when it comes to BIONICLE infos, but now it says that Steven Blum will voice the Skrall. Any idea where this came from? Quote
Zarkan Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) OK, so normally Wikipedia shouldn't be trusted when it comes to BIONICLE infos, but now it says that Steven Blum will voice the Skrall. Any idea where this came from? Dunno, but I don't doubt that it could be at least a possibility, since he seems to be a prominent voice artist (he voiced Green Goblin in the new animated spiderman series, for example). At least it fits in with the rest of the cast that TLC has gotten, but I still wouldn't trust it until we get official proof. Edited July 24, 2009 by Grevious Quote
VBBN Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Let me now say with confidence my thoughts on Mata Nui compared to the Amazing Takanuva 2008. You are paying $20 more for a figure that is hollow as hell and 3 centemeters taller, with a colorscheme that is revolting at the very least. Enough said. I think that anyone that any casual bionicle fan that owns the Canister set is crazy to get the Titan set. Just buy the damn gold ignika off brickilink and call it a day. :] For some reason I sound like Jinzo. XD Quote

Any idea where this came from? If that's true, then that's pretty cool. Blum's been one of my favorite voice-actors for quite a while. Though I think he'd be better voicing Strakk, the Skrall all being voced by him fits as well. :D Quote
Bfahome Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely do you think it is that I'll be able to convince my mom to let me buy Kiina, Mata Nui, Stronius, and Cendox? <.< Quote

Bfahome Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Buy now - tell her later Oh THAT'LL go over well. >.>; or convince her how much they would complement Skopio. That's kinda the problem; since I already got that, I don't think she'll be too keen on me spending another ~$60 on sets. Along with that, I already got two Glatorian, two Agori, a Clone Scout Walker pack, two Cannon Battles, a Hailfire/Spider Droid set, Granite Grinder, Thunder Driller, Stone Chopper, and a partridge in a pear tree. Maybe buying them at separate times would present a better opportunity. Get the Glatorian one time and be like "o hay that yello thing looks cool" another. Quote
The Alchemyst Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Lol, wow already that much. My mom is completely against buying me any more lego. >.> I have to buy with my own money, and even then, she'll say no. Wait til stuff goes on sale, that's what I do. Get only thing necessary things for MOCs and etc and then buy other stuff later when the prices are down. Saves money, and looks good to your mom. [-TA-] Quote
~Wrack'n'Ruin~ Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Prove to her you can be responsible and mature involving money, and she shouldn't care what you do. Become self-sufficient and get a job or start commuting by yourself and so forth. Quote

[-TA-] Yeah...My mom really has no problem with me buying Lego. It's just I recently got Stronius, Mata Nui, and Vastus, and we're kind of tight on money right now. I think I'm going to wait for my birthday and beg for Skopio/Thornatus/Titan MN. :P Quote

It's not a problem with MOCing with them, it's a problem of getting more. :P But we're getting off topic. I just saw the first BIonicle movie again. It was laughable, and animation was really... eh. The movement was mechanical [well there's an excuse for that, but it just didn't flow =/] and in some shots, the quality looked really bad. o.o Maybe that's because it's VCR, but whatever. HumanPackMule Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I got Gelu today and I was able to see four of the other Legends sets up close. I'll probably end up getting Kiina and maybe Mata Nui and Ackar. Ackar's grown on me lately from the original pics from the convention. I may pick up the other two next summer when they're at half price. Quote

Bfahome Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 And where are the bloody 2010 leaks?! Not leaked yet. I remember that there was a time when I had to wait until I got a catalogue or saw a commercial or saw the sets in stores before I knew what they were. Patience. Quote
