Additionally, I don't think the driver's appearance is the most important part of the vehicle sets, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't spend as much time on the driver as they do on the vehicle. If people are saying left and right that the drivers suck, it must be a factor in overall aesthetics.

These are mods I would make to the drivers, if it helps:

Cendox V1 pilot (Crotesius) -- I would make his colour scheme more similar to Raanu, because Crotesius is a fire Agori as well. The helmet, I don't think really fits with the other three fire sets. Maybe a recolour of the Ackar/Berix helmet, perhaps a dark red and yellow mix?

Kaxium V3 pilots (Scodonius and Kirbraz) -- Again, they should be more akin to Berix in colour. IMO black and Mata blue looks really terrible on these guys, so I think replacing the black with more blue should do, as well as better helmets. The helmets are okay, but they just don't fit with the other water sets. I think maybe blue-shaded Malum helmets?

Baranus V7 pilot (Sahmad) -- This guy is the closest they've come to perfection in drivers, but that's not saying much. The orange and black looks rather good, the only thing I'd change is the hands, to black instead of grey. I believe his tribe isn't element-affiliated, so he looks good in that respect, as a nomad.

Thornatus V9 pilot (Perditus) -- While he isn't terrible, he's still rather plain. I'd put some orange in his colour scheme, get rid of the grey and black. Give him an orange head, despite its overuse, it looks rather fiery.

Skopio XV-1 pilot (Telluris) -- The design bugs me. It's half Agori, half Glatorian. I think they should have settled for an Agori design, then we could have gotten yellow Agori limbs. Yellow and grey is a good colour scheme for him.

There's no denying that 2009 sets are the most elemental sets they've made, so I see no reason to break the overall theme with such plain drivers.

One more thing:

Recoloured parts = excellent

Recoloured weapons = even better

Just popping in to say this---seeing as the vehicle pilots are so sub-par, why not use or make better a prototype of a previous set, like for Rockoh, use another Toa's set prototype but in orange with the Kakama Nuva? That'd be wonderful, especially considering the fact that most of us here like the prototypes more than the actual sets Besides, it's less work on the parts of the designers, and better results, so what's wrong with that? I say give it a try, LEGO.

@ clonie: though the recolours would be good, I prefer new molds for masks( and I'm sure other members do to), and would very much like to see more in the future. If they were also reversible, that would be a plus. I do, however agree with every other one of your points. You have quite a complete and excellent review.

Just no more re-used masks. recolours are fine in moderation, but really belong in mask packs(which would solve this problem and really should return) and the appearance of new molds in vehicle drivers should continue, as it helps MOC-wise to have as much as possible. And it would be even cooler to see more reversibles.

I really doubt Mask Packs will be viable like that.

The cost for recolors, like that would be worth more, especially if you take in how many helmets there are. @_@

I'd just say some better Color Schemes would make some stuff better.

Only ones I have too much of a Problem with is Tellerius and Crotesius.

Crotesius seems too Monochrome and Tellerius has the awkward Mata Yellow Forearms.

Everything else is fine, and I personally like how Kirbraz looks. <3

I remember once a member asking greg if there would be more. His response was that those things get released because of the large amount of spare parts, so maybe in 1 or 2 years it's possible to have some. ._.

Not to break up the discussion going here, but a quick question for you guys - I have just enough money for two GLs; not really sure which ones to get. I've been looking at all of them at some point or another, so does anyone that has them have any suggustions for me?

Definitely Mata Nui. The only other Legend I have is Vastus, and he seems to be hit-or-miss for some people, but I enjoyed the set. Still, get Mata Nui for sure.

I would actually suggest either Ackar of Kiina, seeing their story significance in "The Legend Reborn". Mind you, I still have no Legends myself. Anybody know if they are available yet in Belgium? (probably not)

As for the second... Stronius seems like a good buy. Same with Kiina if you're into somewhat strange designs, or Ackar, if you like pretty color schemes and are willing to have another basic Toa thing.

Radomly packed masks in larger sets would be cruel. If I didn't know about trading or Bricklink, I would need to pay for heaps of unwanted duplicates of sets in order to get all the masks. (Then again, that was done with the Rahkshi, but the want for slightly differenet kraata is less than differrent masks.)

The reason I suggested recolours is because they're midway between awesome and cost-efficient. New molds are awesome, but far more expensive than recolours, and old parts in the same colours aren't as interesting (although they can be good). And besides, recoloured masks aren't that bad. I rather like the availability of the Berix helmet in two colours, as well as the Spikit head. And, you know, basically all of the collectibles from 2001-2003.

If I had to pick two Legends, I would get Mata Nui (because he's Mata Nui) and Ackar. Or if you want them to be more varied, get Mata and Stronius.

I disagree with you about Telluris : I think of it being a Glatorian with an Agori body. And the only yellow pieces he has are the Slizer arms, the others are orange and if he had had the same colour scheme as Sahmad, he would have been better.

Sorry, you're right, he's Metru yellow. He looked orange to me in some pics and that made me think he was orange.

I picked up Mats and Kiina today; they're pretty cool. Mats' shinguards are absolutley driving me insane, so I'm probably going to mod them, but other than that, he's good. Kiina... it depends on the angle you look at her. #1 thing is, though, how colorful and vibrant they are - I'm in love with it. Cause, well, remembering last year... ;_;

don't remind me... last year hurt me. The villains were the best thing to emerge, and even then... I think I died a little inside. But his year has fully redeemed itself!

I modded Mats with black pins. they don't protrude too much, and they keep the shin guards from rattling. I might pick up Kiina next.

Ooh goodie, 'cause I've got to get 2 F&S sets anyway for the sand stalker combo. Unfortunately I doubt I'll see a newer version because the old one hasn't sold at all in the shops near me. Does it apply to Tuma as well?
