Satellite Jack Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I call Gelu "Geh-loo" and I called Lewa "Lee-wuh". I don't like saying them with "Ay" sounds because it just sounds weird to me. :/ As do I. Just pronounce them the way they're spelled. Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I pronounce all the original characters' names as they were on the Toa Mata CD-Rom. Hence, LAY-wuh Quote
ShaddowCroc Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I remember being so annoyed that they called him that in that CD thing. (But he was called "Lee-wuh" in the movie.) I also remember hating how they called him"Loo-wuh" in BIONICLE: The Game. It may have evengivenme a nightmare once . . . Quote
Kiotu Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Hmm, I pronounce 'Lewa' as 'Loo-uh.' But I say 'Lay Koro.' Same with Gali and Ga Koro: 'Gal-lee' and 'Gah Koro' Quote

Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I always pronounced the names without the pointless "AY" sound. Geh-loo and Leh-wah -ZotS Quote
Antrozek Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I just pronunce their names how they're writted :P Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I'm thinking of buying Mata Nui and Gresh... But Titan Mata Nui seems like a much more fun build, if not a bit too expensive for me. -ZotS Quote
ShaddowCroc Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I pronounce suffixes diffrerently than character names, because I called Le-Koro "Lay Koh-roh" and Ga-Koro "Guh-Koro". Quote
HumanPackMule Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 anyone else realize Metus' name is the Latin word for fear, and Malum's name is the Latin word for apple? Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 anyone else realize Metus' name is the Latin word for fear, and Malum's name is the Latin word for apple? Apples are red. YUM -ZotS Quote
Antrozek Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 anyone else realize Metus' name is the Latin word for fear, and Malum's name is the Latin word for apple? weird, in my latin book it says that Malum means "Maldad", "Evil" in english Quote
The Alchemyst Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 anyone else realize Metus' name is the Latin word for fear, and Malum's name is the Latin word for apple? Malum is both "Apple" and "Evil, misfortune, and other synonyms". I'm suspecting the latter though, with the latin root mal- much more common as "bad" Metus is fear, axiety and dread. Interesting. While browsing my Latin dictionary "Maturo [Mah-too-roh]" meaning to make ripe, lol. [-TA-] Quote

Kiotu Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) Have any of you heard the Latin phrase 'malo 'malo malo malo?' It's a good way for remembering the four Latin 'malo's. The first is the irregular 1st person singular of 'malo, malle' meaning 'I prefer (to be),' the second is ablative for apple tree (malus (masculine) is an apple tree, mala (feminine) is the fruit). The third malo translates as than an evil man/thing (could be either, technically, but it's probably 'man') which comes from the adjective 'malus, -a, -um' meaning 'bad or evil.' The last means 'in adversity. So from those, I'm pretty sure malum was supposed to mean evil (although neuter) or an evil thing :P Oh, and 'Fero' is a direct translation for 'I carry, bear' Edited August 15, 2009 by Kiotu Quote
Avohkahs' Sparks Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 You are all just looking too much into this. I think they just picked some Latin words that sounded cool for names. Or, it could be since they were trying to think of Roman style names that they actually thought of things that were words. Quote
Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Well it doesn't have to work. For example - Umbra, the Light warrior, means Darkness. -ZotS Quote
Satellite Jack Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Well it doesn't have to work. For example - Umbra, the Light warrior, means Darkness.-ZotS Yea, but in that case, it's so ironic, they must have done it on purpose. But I agree you might be looking in to it too much. Quote

ShaddowCroc Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 That was pretty cool. But what's all this talk about Baterra and The Shattering being in the next graphic novel? Quote
Brickthing Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I absolutely love those sharks and fish, and how the Cordaks actually look like torpedoes. Interesting that the less detailed Ignika was used when it clearly wasn't relevant to the comic style and current shape of the Ignika. It kind of suggests that the Ignika was actually like that in 2007. Quote
