Zip Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Super cool illustrations where the subjects are concealed in shadows are all very well, but not helpful for designing a set itself. What Ecto has done in the 2010 Fan topic is much more useful concept art. Also, knowledge with CAD programs would also be required as well, because I doubt 2D drawing alone would be enough to fill the job of a set designer. Where have you been? Quote
Omicron Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Where have you been? I've seen concept art of the Inika. They look nothing like they do now. So drawing still doesn't really fill in the void of being a set designer. Besides Lego has standards when it comes to set designer and art designer. They require super awesome degrees. -Omi Quote
tao07 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 hey guys, remember that greg said something about publishing a similar book like Makuta's Guide to the Universe, but about Bara Magna, well it's this one! Quote
The Alchemyst Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) And Tiome needs to actually try out his ideas. Shoulder armor, [Matoro Claw] doesn't actually work if I remember correctly. Strike that, that was with a 7long Dsocket. And well, I bet there's more to the job than just drawing up pretty pieces. Economics of some sort, safety regulations, copyright all has to fit somewhere [and probably more] [-TA-] Edited August 29, 2009 by The Alchemyst Quote
Bfahome Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) I now have Stronius, Kiina, and Cendox V1. The Target we went to didn't have any Mata of Nui in stock. hat But now I want a second Cendox so I can put one of their helmets backwards and pretend they're a pair of marauders. >_> Though I do have like 50 dollars left of almost-guaranteed boncle™ money. The Alchemyst Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Cendox is awsum, Right? :D You can just Bricklink one off you know. >.> And I swear I'll get a Cendox Review up... As soon as it stops raining and the sun decides to come out. D: [-TA-] Quote

Zaktan of the Shadows Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Makuta's Guide to the Universe, Mata Nui's guide to Bara Magna. AWESOME. -ZotS Quote
The Alchemyst Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Yes.What? I meant the Cendox Helmet, but now I see you wanted a biker gang, lol. And the book cover is pretty cool. I hope it has some sort of serial like the last one. [-TA-] Quote
Bfahome Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I meant the Cendox Helmet, but now I see you wanted a biker gang, lol. oic, and yeah. :P I need opinions. Should I risk possible parts breakage and change Kiina's lower arm and lower leg pieces? I'm thinking either a combination of Metru legs for the arms and Piraka legs for the legs or Vahki legs for the arms and Piraka legs for the legs. I have all the needed pieces in dark blue, and either combination would shorten the arms by one unit and give her limbs a bit more substance (eliminating the somewhat-annoying lankiness). Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Aah, man, that is so cool. I want it! Quote

If you haven't dis/re-connected the sockets since you made it, you should be safe for swapping the limbs around, and back if you want set official. Worst case scenario is that you have to call LEGO customer service. IMO though, Kiina doesn't need extra bulkiness, because it would make her less feminine. Quote

I'd go with the Metru legs. Vahki legs are disturbingly wide. Actually, I wouldn't change it at all. I think Kiina looks fine, as is... ~Bunda Quote

[-TA-] Even though I don't dislike the mask used, I like that version of Onua millions of times better. Too bad they didn't use much of it's genius(other than the copying of Lewa's shoulders) instead of the lame one they came out with. Even the color-scheme made massively more sense too. What a sad shame. Edited August 29, 2009 by BrotherDog Quote
Phantoka Kopaka Nuva Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 New comic is out. It includes some scenes from The Legend Reborn. Waiting for scans... Quote

I'd risk it. The first time you take the pieces off they don't usually break. In fact I've made a lot of MOCs using parts from 2009 sets and only Metus's head is cracked. BTW please post pics of your modification. Quote
Bfahome Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 BTW please post pics of your modification. Nothing broke, and she looks better for it. Less like a stick. Quote
The Dor Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 IMAGENothing broke, and she looks better for it. Less like a stick. The Legends' joints are much sturdier than the Glatorian and by far sturdier than '08. I have not had a single breakage on any of my Legends so far. :D Also I like Kiina lanky and sort of stickish to be honest. Maybe it's just me :D but that mod looks pretty good too :D Quote

S-N Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Actually, my Vastus special arm joint has a crack at the socket. Other than that, though I'd have to agree with you. Yeah. My Mata Nui set is very very sturdy. The plastic is wayyyy stronger. Quote
Brickthing Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Nothing broke, and she looks better for it. Less like a stick. The proportions look better, and she probably looks even better in 3D, but on the picture the Metru arms and Piraka Legs don't match at all. That's probably just from the photo though. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 scans of the coic up on BZP. Pretty cool, though most of it is movie stuff we've already seen. Quote
Zip Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Yeah. My Mata Nui set is very very sturdy. The plastic is wayyyy stronger. It's not the plastic, it's the design that is weakening these joints. Too much internal friction. Quote
