-JD- Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I thought it would be interesting to know what other members on EB like eating. I am vegetarian, and Hindu (which means I can not eat anything from a cow, meat-wise). I absolutely adore pasta and salad on the side. The cheese and onion pasties from Greg's are the most delicious I will ever taste and I consider it a treat to have one. Btw, I and others will not want to know your gross eating habits, if any. If a topic like this has been posted before, feel free to delete this one. I did a search and there was nothing. Greetings, JD Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 My kosher tastes might be different than most but I love to eat matzo ball soup. It is so good when the matzo balls are baseball sized. Unfortunatly, no one in my family makes them that often so I useally am stuck making them. I useally have them on passover, which is coming up in a week. Quote
Majek Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Okay, so I really really like: - pierogi ruskie, - lazanki, - any kind of fish (only fish I don't like is a carp ) - goulash with pasta, - many, many more.... Quote
Rijkvv Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I really like a big, huge (Wiener) schnitzel. With pepper sauce. I also like kale with sausage. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Good thread idea! Here are a few of mine: -Any type of curry -Spaetzle - Homemade Pizza (my mother makes the best pizza dough ever in my opinion. ) - Pasta. What I like about pasta is that there are so many different ways to have it. That about covers my favorites, but there are certainly plenty of others that I like. Quote
KimT Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 That about covers my favorites, but there are certainly plenty of others that I like. Mmmmm! Strawberry with ice Quote
Skipper 24 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Hmmm. I like my mums home cooked fried rice a lot but also any type of sea food and sorbet . Quote
Eilif Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) This thread is actually making my mouth water. I like almost all the food you folks mentioned, but I especially like... 1) Saganaki: Greek cheese covered in Brandy and set on fire! Salty, Cheesy, savory and burning! What more could you want? 2) Ethiopian Food: Rather spicy but delicious and eaten with your hands, what fun!. My favorites include Kifo Tere (spicy red rare ground beef meat) Ib (creamy white cheese) and Doro Wat (Chicken and a hard boiled egg in a spicy brown sauce). 3) Indian food: For many of the same reasons as Ethiopan food, but of course the flavors are quite different. Butter Chicken and Mutter Paneer... MMM, MMM good! Edited March 30, 2009 by Eilif Quote
Legoist Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) I'm Italian and my favourite food is of course that from my country, among which I could try to pick some traditional favourites from my local area. For example I really love the "Casoncelli della Valcamonica", a type of pasta dumplings served in molten butter, vaguely similar to ravioli but gigantic and with potatoes added to the fillings. I love the traditional "Spiedo Bresciano" which is a selection of meat (whole chicken, pork ribs and steaks plus birds if you can get them*) cooked on open fire on a rotating spikes and served with polenta. And I love a nameless dish which is basically a square pot of pieces of rabbit, lamb and young goat oven-baked with rosemary and potatoes, again served with polenta during Easter times. *illegal But there's lots of foreign dishes I really like as well. I love Japanese sushi, French bourguignonne (tiny pieces of different meat and sausages cooked in boiling oil in the middle of the dinner table in a fondue set), German schitzel, and Finnish mustamakkara (blood sausages). And a traditional English breakfast set Unfortunately, I married a vegetarian Edited March 30, 2009 by Legoist Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 My Mum's corned beef hash with baked beans, her fish pie, her cottage pie. A full roast dinner with lamb, boiled potatos, mashed potatos, cabbage, broccoli, yorkshire puddings, gravey and mint sauce. Pasta Bake (bacon or tuna with penne, juicy chopped tomatoes and cheese all baked up, mmmm) a good steak and ale pie. Roast Pork and stuffing sandwiches or baps. If I'm in a lazy or comfort food mood it has to be corned beef smothered in beans, chips in curry sauce or pizza with steak, onions and mushrooms. Gosh, I'm hungry now. Plus really glad that my mum is an epic cook. Quote
Izzy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 If I tried to eat the things many of you have mentioned above I would be as big as a house. Especially Peppermint, yikes. That is some heavy (very winter) sounding stuff. But so YUM YUM YUM!!!!! My favourite and coincidentally what I am about to make for dinner is Pizza... Wholemeal Dough, Basil Pesto, Roast Pumpkin, Pinenuts, Baby Spinach leaves and Feta... Splashed with a little lemon juice before serving. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I forgot to mention her (my mum's) cassarole and dumplings. Oh so good. Yes it is rather "heavy" but certainly filling and warm. Once we get to summer it gets lighter, lots of pasta dishes, nice things with rice but still a good roast as family dinner once a week. Toad in the Hole is good too, but we don't have it often as it isn't popular with all my family (of nine people we have: a vegetarian, a small child who will only eat sandwich ham and mini frankfurters, a fussy one who wont eat anything with gravy on and a child who would have a sandwich instead of tea so he can go out and play, and one small one who will refuse tea to stretch a few more minutes playing lego in the loft or on the computer....) so tea is a fun affair in my house. Oh, I'm so hungry now. Quote
Freddie Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 *snip*Kjøttkaker, baby! Those aren't kjøttkaker, but meatballs. Or kjöttbullar, if you will. Most likely the norwegian IKEA variant. Not as good as proper swedish meatballs, but hey, Norwegian import makes the swedish variant prohibitively expensive. I'm leaning towards italian food, especially pasta. But I also like a good curry now and then, and chilli con carne is also right up there with the pasta. Quote

Ricecracker Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Here is a list of my favourite cuisines: Japanese Indian Korean Thai And some more specific foods: Steam Whistle Sausage (Beef, Hot peppers, and beer, in a sausage) Pineapple Fried Rice Red Curry Veal Parmigana Quote
Erdbeereis Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I thought you would mention them cause you named yourself after them. I named myself after strawberry ice-cream, not strawberries. 2 very different things. Although I do like plain strawberries as well. That gets me thinking, we should have a separate thread for desserts... Quote
The Rancor Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 A mouthwatering juicy steak!!! (preferably Gamorrean of course) Quote
