Ricecracker Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 That gets me thinking, we should have a separate thread for desserts... Since we don't yet (And I'm too lazy to make one), I'll get us started here: Home-made Gelato New York style Cheesecake Smores made over a campfire Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 In an amusing incident involving an icky looking baked potato and a lack of spares I discovered that chilli-cheese sandwiches are fantastic. Quote
prateek Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I am vegetarian, and Hindu (which means I can not eat anything from a cow, meat-wise). I absolutely adore pasta and salad on the side. The cheese and onion pasties from Greg's are the most delicious I will ever taste and I consider it a treat to have one. im hindu too but i'll eat anything. i like everything but i dont have a favourite. indian food gets tiring though after a while so anything else is good Quote
Klonoa Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I really like to eat raw celery and strawberries. Quote
Legoist Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Raw beef + Honey Mustard = Teh epic winz. How could I forget? Raw minced horse meat "cold-cooked" in lemon juice with garlic and parsley, I often ask for it when dining at my parents' place :) I guess that raw meat is a kind of food that most people would find disgusting at the thought, but we all used to eat raw meat a long time ago And as long as it's horse you're safe - it's the healthiest meat and the only truly safe one to eat uncooked. Big Cam Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 So many choices, I guess if I had to pick one, I'd go with Chinese Food, or Korean BBQ rib's Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) Churrasco (Brazilian BBQ) is my favorite kind of food. That with an ice cold Skol (Brazilian beer, not the Turkish beer) or a caipirinha is probably as close to heaven as Ill get. Edited April 6, 2009 by HMS243 Quote
AwesomeStar Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Probably my local Chips Shop's Fish 'N' Chips, the best in the world! I think... Or KFC - sorry, all the other foods are so exotic! But I'm a city-boy! Stuffin' mah noshers with lovely-tasting junky-crap! OOOOH YEAH! ~A.S. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Can't believe I forgot Pfannkuchen (German word for Crepes)! Some cinnamon sugar and whipped cream inside = YUM! I also like using them for sort of a quesadilla type thing with mozzarella and red bell pepper spread fried in a pan. Quote
Corvus Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Freshly bakes scones filled with raspberry jam and a bit of butter. Absolutely delicious. Oh, and anything from the Redwall series, of course. Quote
prateek Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Anyone else here like home made Lasagne? everyone does Quote
Scouty Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Pastel de Nata. A very nice pastry, with a crispy breading and very nice lemony pudding. That's one of my favourite foods. Quote
MetroiD Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) Musaka / moussaka - however you'd call it, I'd kill for a slice right now! Balkan cuisine ftw!!!!!! Drooling already? Edited April 7, 2009 by Asya & Bobby Otters Quote
Zorbas Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Musaka / moussaka - however you'd call it, I'd kill for a slice right now! Balkan cuisine ftw!!!!!! Drooling already? I just had mousaka yesterday. Let's say i'm familiar enough with this dish. Oh, and if you want to pronounce it in the greek way, it's mousakas, with the accentuation on the last "a". My favorite? It's really difficult for me to choose but since i live in south Greece, it has to include olive oil. Man, this is officially the most torturing topic in here! Put a warning sign or something... Quote
MetroiD Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I just had mousaka yesterday. Let's say i'm familiar enough with this dish. I'm sure you are, neighbour... I guess we stole it from your cuisine somewhere along the way, even though in the Bulgarian version we rarely use aubergines. In any case, it really makes me laugh every time Balkan countries start arguing on topics such as orignal authors of some folk song, country of origin of some dish or folklore story ot motif, etc.... Things have become so mixed up around here that it only takes a bit of looking around (and actually reading a bit about it) for one to realise that even tho we fight all the time and point the finger at each other (in typical Balkan style), we are very much the same. Which, on a global scale, sounds extremely logical. Anyway, I digress... Dish of the day: stuffed peppers. Admittedly, that's not something you'd order at a fancy restaurant, but I don't think those are the only dishes worth mentioning. To me, this is one of the most "house-typed" foods. A healthy and delicious one too! Quote

That is pretty much the truth. Many aspects of Balkan countries' culture and habits are usually the same or derive from the same source. You're absolutely right on that. Popular elements ( popular meaning here, everyday things widely used from the people for years) most of the times don't have borders. Especially in our area. .It is indeed pointless for someone to argue on some of these. ...even tho we fight all the time and point the finger at each other (in typical Balkan style), we are very much the same. ...and that my friend is the quote of the day! MetroiD Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Mmmm... Unagi / Kabayaki Nigiri, my favourite sushi!!! (that's eel, not Ross' precognition thing... ) Oh, and a classical Miso Soup would be great, thank you! But I also Thai cuisine. Crispy chicken with noodles & vegetables = marvellous (despite the huge amounts of natrium glutamate) Quote

(that's eel, not Ross' precognition thing... ) Oh, and a classical Miso Soup would be great, thank you! I've never actually had Unagi, so I wouldn't know. It does look good though..... And a Miso soup is a must! Two nights ago, I went to an all you can eat sushi/other Japanese food buffet, but they bring the food to your table. Delicious! But I also Thai cuisine. Crispy chicken with noodles & vegetables = marvellous (despite the huge amounts of natrium glutamate) Thai food is wonderful as well. A good coconut chicken soup is perfect for any occasion! Quote
