Natman8000 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I'm so glad they are opening another one in NJ, and even closer this time. Shame they don't have a special set, but I suppose it is fine. I've never seen anything about this 'build a minifig' thing, it looks quite cool. I would love to try that. Quote
Tyrant Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Build your own minifig? Really? I don't recall in my many visits to the Lego store in Colorado ever seeing that. I guess we lucked out. Or maybe I missed it or something...>> I stopped there the other day on the way to Breckenridge and they had it. It's kind of in the middle of the store. The selection wasn't really that great so you aren't missing much. On a different note, since I live in southern Indiana I've never really had to onsider the possibility of going to a store unless I was going on a trip but with the store opening in Cincinnati that possibility is now there. I got a stamp card at the Denver store the other day, and I had a question about it. I have read before of double stamp days. I am wondering if A) there is a way to know when these specials will be running and B) if it is exactly what I think it is (2 stamps when you would normally only get 1)? Any help would be appreciated. Quote
puddleglum Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 No, they're not really rare. I can't speak for all of the grand openings, but it doesn't seem like there are any special pieces or whatnot in these sets, and no minifigs IIRC. The sets are nice to have, but if you're into sets with minifigs like me, they're not terribly interesting. Let's not confuse the rarity of the parts with the rarity of the sets. The sets themselves (meaning, the parts, bag, and instructions) are extremely rare - they give out 300 of these sets at each store opening, plus a copy to folks who help with the build event, and probably store employees as well. The sets are designed by master model builders that work for LEGO USA. The parts, on the other hand, are always relatively common parts, with most sets having 50-60 parts. The notable exception is the Raleigh lighthouse, which has 120 parts, including 1x1 plates in several colors, tan tiles and jumper plates, and the 2x2 plate with octogonal bar frame in black. Quote
runswscissors Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I can't wait to check out the newest Annapolis store. Its the only one close enough to visit (and apparently we are getting another one in MD now - weird!). I'm planning on checking out Annapolis in early July! WOOHOO! My wife has already given me permission (*cough* not that I need it *cough*) to get whatever I wish. :-) Quote
posades Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Has anyone applied to work at the new stores opening? I walked by the spot in the mall the other day where my local one is opening up but all it had on the wall was opening soon and no person or application in sight. Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Why does LEGO refuse to open stores in Nevada and Utah?! Quote

I walked by the spot in the mall the other day where my local one is opening up but all it had on the wall was opening soon and no person or application in sight. Yes! I applied through monster.com and actually got a call back from Lego! She decided to bring me in for the 5 hour assessment along with 4 other individuals. In the end, I did not get the job. The position I was applying for was assistant store manager. Store managers receive ~$45,000- $50,000 plus sales bonuses Asst managers receive ~$30,000- $38,000 plus sales bonuses. Quote

Ah, it doesn't matter how much they're paying as long as it's above minimum wage. The real question is what kind of discount you'll get working there. And whether your bonus can be paid in exclusive sets. :D Quote

Yeah I actually saw that position as well for my local one, though I'm looking for the minimum wage, lowly employee job. I tried checking online but no luck... Quote

Stash2Sixx Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Double stamp days pop up from time to time. Yes, they are rare and are exactly what you think they are. Instead of spending $200 and filling half a card, you would fill a whole card. Quote

Lord Admiral Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I heard from a LEGO Store employee that the discount is 30%. That's a decent discount. Any FOL's dream, I'd imagine. Of course, it's only a dream, since it'd be difficult to buy sets even after the discount and still make a living on the wages. Quote
Jordan S. Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I've been in touch with some people from LEGO Brand Retail regarding the opening of the Birmingham, AL store. The LEGO Brand Retail website does not give any specifics about the grand opening. I've been given a tentative opening date, however! I'm in the process of confirming this information and then I'll pass it along. Whenever the grand opening does occur, several of us from the Tennessee Valley LEGO Train Club will be there for sure. We're looking forward to meeting other AFOLs from around the area, too. Be sure to stop by and say hello! I have no clue on what the grand opening model would be. Maybe some LEGO BBQ. Quote

puddleglum Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Whatever, rascist. Mormonisim is a religion, not a race, unless I missed something. I think you meant to call him a "bigot." Sorry about your lack of LEGO stores! Quote

Sorry about your lack of LEGO stores! Indeed! My bad. Either way, I shouldn't call him anything. If that's his opinion, okay. And yeah, it's okay. At least I'll get to go to one in October! meschepers Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Is anyone (other than myself) going to the grand opening in Oklahoma City on the 25th of July? I would like to meet fellow AFOLs in the area if anyone else is going. Please let me know in either a reply in this thread or by PM. Quote
