Shadows Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Don't forget... when you go to these grand openings, take a friend and pick up a spare promo set and any promo brick they may have (usually for the build event part of the opening) and then PM me and we'll make a deal. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 And one in South Carolina...Annoying how there are a few in NC, one in Georgia, and one in Florida, but unfortunately not one here in SC. If Lego does decide to open one in SC, it will probably end up at the Boardwalk in Myrtle Beach. Quote
Imperial Governer Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I WISH they would open a LEGO store in New York City. Its hard for me to get to the Palisades Mall one, but if there was one in NYC, I could just hop the Metro-North and be there in a few seconds! That LEGO section of Toysrus Time Squares really doesn't cut it. Also, they could open a Lego store in White Plains, NY! White Plains has a lot of stores: Walmart, Target, Barns and Noble, Sears! There is also millions of movie theaters and fast food joints there! A LEGO store would really fit in there! Quote
The Brick Rat Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 For those in the Charlotte, NC area I found the following on the Charlotte Observers website: ***** July 6, 2009 Two new stores are opening at Concord Mills, the mall's owner announced Monday: a Lego store and a Coach Factory store. The Lego store will open at the end of July with 4,520 square feet, across from the Nike Factory store. It will include a Lego Education Center, which will offer several classes to teach people to become better Lego builders. ***** I'm excited, as I've wanted a LEGO store here for years now. Next on the wish list: A Charlotte LUG. Quote
Jordan S. Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) Grand Opening info for Birmingham, AL store at the Riverchase Galleria: Opening date: Thursday, July 30 Grand Opening: August 28-August 30 Featured Master Builder model: R2-D2 Featured large-scale model: Indiana Jones It sounds like this store is about 2100SF and follows the standard "yellow" LEGO store layout. As of yet, I don't know what the featured mini-build model will be. If you plan to attend the opening of this store, please send me a PM or post here. I think we'll have a contingent heading to the opening, and it would be nice to meet you. -Jordan Edited July 15, 2009 by Jordan S. Quote

I know I'm going to be there for sure, and I think Alice said she was going as well; now we just have to wait and see what the exclusive set will be. One thing that is a bit confusing, is the opening date simply when you can start shopping there while the Grand Opening is when all the festivities/exclusive set is given out? Quote
puddleglum Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 One thing that is a bit confusing, is the opening date simply when you can start shopping there while the Grand Opening is when all the festivities/exclusive set is given out? Yes, most LEGO stores seem to hold their "grand opening" weekend a few weeks after their actual opening. I imagine it's mostly due to practicalities like scheduling a master model builder for the event, not wanting multiple openings on the same weekend, and giving the employees time to get up to speed. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Yes for those that are itching to visit their newest Lego retail store, the store usually opens about 2 weeks prior to the grand opening festivities. They do not announce the soft opening date. This gives the employees time to get comfortable with everything before the mad house during the grand opening. Quote

Dragonator Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Surely it's about time they opened a Lego store in the pacific? There's plenty in the US, give us a few! It's good to see that Lego's retail outlets are expanding, hopefully that will be good for business. Quote
ACCURATEin Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 As of May, the resources lady from LEGO said there are plans to open 75 stores in the near future. Quote

Here's some information that I got over the weekend. Alice and posades, be sure to pay special attention! The LEGO store needs volunteers for various tasks during its Grand Opening. Tasks will include, among other things, providing "quality control" during the Master Builder event to ensure that the components kids build are assembled correctly. You might also get to help Dan, the Master Builder, construct a giant R2-D2 model. There are three shifts: Friday, Aug. 28 (11AM-7PM, I think) Saturday, Aug. 29 (11AM-7PM) Sunday, Aug. 30 (12PM-approx. 8PM) Volunteers should be attired in khaki pants and a solid black shirt (polo, if possible) in order to present a unified appearance with LEGO Store employees. In return, if you work an 8-hour shift, the LEGO store will provide you with lunch, a promotional T-shirt from the event, and the event's exclusive mini-build model of Birmingham's Vulcan sculpture. (Yes, it's going to be Vulcan!) Oh, and you get a store discount, too... If you want to be a part of this, email tvlego at gmail dot com by Friday with the shift(s) you are available for as well as your order of preference on days. I'll put together a schedule of volunteers and run it by the store manager, and then I'll let you know what the final schedule is. We'll be sending some volunteers from our local group, TVLTC, to help with this, too, so you'll get to meet other AFOLs. Thanks! Quote
The Rancor Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 All these new stores... (it would be a wub, but no such luck in the Uk) I expect the Birmingham you are referring to Jordan, is a one that's in the US. Shame. I suppose even if there was one in (UK) Birmingham it would STILL just add to the Lego Uk stores which are at least 4 hours drives away Maybe TLG will announce a new Uk store soon! (preferably in the South West, not North or East) Quote

That sounds great Jordan S., unfortunately my classes have started by then but I should be able to drive down that weekend and possibly volunteer Saturday. I'll send an email a little later; is that your email address or somebody's from the store? As for Vulcan, I just want to say I called it. Maybe they'll give us some rare colors, though I'm thinking it will most likely just be red-brown. Quote
Thee Pirate Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Open one in the Florida panhandle!!! 3 years ago I lived in California and there was 3 Lego stores within an hour of my house. Now, I believe the closest one is around 4 or 5 hours away :-( Quote
MrTools Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 (edited) I got my flying pig set from the opening in cincinatti, and in four days im getting an exclusive salamander set form the opening in columbus, so cool to have two LEGO stores within an hour of you house! One of the thing i find nice is that when you go to a LEGO store grand opening all the employees are actualy happy and enjoyig it rather some other store where an employee just wants to leave . its a job i would like to get but i doubt it will happen Edit- Here is a picture of the salamander set Edited July 28, 2009 by MrTools Quote
posades Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I went to the Riverchase Galleria store today to check it out. I must say it's smaller than I expected, it was pretty crowded in there with all the customers and 50 employees (ok it wasn't that many but it sure did seem that way ). Didn't manage to look too closely at the PaB wall or the build-a-fig station but I may stop by there another day when I have more time. I'm pretty sure they aren't looking for anymore workers, hopefully they still need some volunteers for the grand opening though. Quote

Drock Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I made it to the Columbus, Ohio store last night. It just opened yesterday. I was drooling all over the floor. It was neat to see some of the sets built instead of just pictures on the web. Also, they had sets which aren't up on Lego.com yet, which was neat to see. I'll be going back tonight to get the exclusive bricks, and Saturday to get the minikit. They will probably start to think that I'm some kind of weirdo. Quote

Drock Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Im going there tomorow for the Minikit how big would you say it is? Is the PAB wall big or small the suspense is killing me! Not very big (but the only LEGO store I've been to is at Disney World), but they do seem to have everything. Maybe 3/4 the size of the one in the picture here http://stores.lego.com/en-US/default.aspx The Columbus store just feels more cramped. I didn't get too close to the PAB wall, but it doesn't look like it's as big as the one in the pic either. Quote
