Hinckley Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 They look beautiful! *wub* I love the Gobie. He's colorful, cute, and...expensive looking. How much do they cost? Thanks Mr. M! :-$ It's nice to know there's someone else around with such a great appreciation of animals! *wub* As far as $, they do cost a bit...but we get our pond supplies from the same guy so we usually don't pay full price...they like when we show up :-/ The gobie will always be my favorite! They look like wise little hummingbirds...there was a green one too, but apparently they are very territorial unless there are six or more. Same with tangs... *wacko* Fish are funny... The copper banded butterfly is real jittery but fascinated with us. It hides a lot but if we are by the tank it comes out to see us...probably for food...but you can just sit there and stare at it for a while and it seems to just watch back for a minute before it realize you're not feeding him and meanders off somwhere. Cute.

The ones I originally see have tiny fins and stand on rocks most of the time ;-) Your gobie is just astounding 8-

Scouty Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I so desperately love those *wub* ! Awsome fish... Might there be a chance to see the whole tank, I would lloovvee to see it. I Love fish *wub* . I also love peppermint shrimp, they're awsome.
Corvus Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 We have an aquarium near Paris and last time I was there I talked to a staff member who was feeding the fish and asked him why there were loads of red shrimps in every trank and he told me that those red shrimps are used to clean certain fish !! They stand in an area and fish who want to be cleaned go there and the shrimp feed on their filth !! It great to watch, like a car wash X-D Do you have any of those and do you have a cleaning tank fish (sorry the name just eludes me ;-) ) *yoda* Ah, zoo story time! I went to the Miami MetroZoo in Florida a year or two ago. There, I met a staff member and got into a long talk about parrots (she was in the petting zoo, feeding the parrots) and then we strayed into birds of prey. I had gone to the zoo to look for a Harpy Eagle, which I have a deep obsession about. I found none, but that was no suprise. I asked the staff member if they had any in captivity. She said that the zoo had two, a breeding pair. I was pretty happy about this, but she said only staff could enter, which wasn't a big dissapointment, I wasn't expecting to get in anyway. What did suprise me was that she told me she'd send me pictures of the pair and the newborn chick! So, I went home. A month later an envelope came in the mail, all the way from florida. I wasn't expecting to get any pictures, because I live in Oregon, a pretty long way for someone I didn't really know to send me anything. I opened the envelope, and there they were, in fairly expensive printing paper. I'm very grateful, the pictures of the chick are so cute. *wub* Maybe I should scan them, and post them. Not quite a pet story, sorry. The only fish I have are a Beta, and the fish in our pond... That reminds me: My old middle school's football field has a dozen or more plastic tubes that extend from the edge of the field down to who knows where. Many frogs live in them when it gets wet. The school had a fundraiser that involved walking around the track that circles the football field. It doesn't sound like fun, but it usually involves lots of playing and free water bottles. During the fundraiser, I looked down and spotted a frog in one of the tubes. I caught it. I carried it around for a bit (gently, mind you!) and then I spotted another one. I caught it, also, and immediately decided I wanted to take them home as pets. I drained most of my water bottle, and put the frogs inside. Now, I couldn't carry frogs around with me the rest of the school day, so I put the water bottle in my locker at an angle, so the frogs could rest on the side of the water bottle while having a pool. After school was over, I brought the frogs and their bottle home, where I named them Tom Thumb and Jimmy. I pulled an old aquarium out of a closet, cleaned it, put dirt, grass, and moss from our pond in it. I filled a dish with water and put it in, too, so they could have a pond. Then, I went to the local pet store and bought a bag of crickets and put them in the aquarium, and watched Tom Thumb and Jimmy go to school on the frogs. After having them a month or so, Tom Thumb and Jimmy escaped as my mother was doing a routine cleaning. She says Tom Thumb escaped outside into the pond, while Jimmy went... somewhere. I was glad Tom Thumb survived, though, and found a great place to stay in our pond. :'-) Needless to say, I never used that water bottle again. X-D

Great video. Here's an interesting fact (I think) about people who photograph the Harpy's nest: The photographers who climbed up to the nest had to wear protective helmets and thick padding on their backs as protection from the parent Harpies, because they're powerful enough to kill a human. 8-

Opproperaar Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) When I'd like to add a pic of my own pets I get this as a message after I've tried adding an attachment "The total filespace required to upload all the attached files is greater than your per post or global limit. Please reduce the number of attachments or the size of the attachments." What gives? I only tried uploading one lousy pic, let alone multiple. Can anybody help me please? *wacko* Edited October 11, 2007 by Hairy Ruben

Opproperaar Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I have to obtain a higher rank? But I see people like citizens and vassals able to upload pics, why can't I? X-O
Hinckley Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I have to obtain a higher rank? But I see people like citizens and vassals able to upload pics, why can't I? X-O Perhaps you have uploaded too many pics already or the pic you are trying to upload is too big. Most people post pics on BRickshelf or Flickr, photobucket, etc. and deeplink. Here is a tutorial about posting pics... and some other helpful tutorials compiled by *yoda*
Opproperaar Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) EDIT- Ok, apparently there was a problem with the links in my post, but Iv' helped it, so here are once again, or for you people for the first time *wacko* pics of my pets. Four cats and a German Shepherd female. or female canine, use whichever you prefer. :-P my dog all inquisitive and playful in the coach our hariest cat lying upside down, he's just plain weird, you can pick him up while he's asleep, lay him somewhere else and he'll carry on sleeping, such a neat animal. Lord Beckett Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 This is my new cat, her name is Shadow. :-$
Doctor Sinister Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I've been avoiding this thread as I no longer have any pets. :'-( Here they are: They were named Fox and Dana and were pedigree Siamese sealpoints. I got them in 1999. Fox died just over two years ago of heart failure, nothing I could have done or known about - genetic apparently. It broke my heart. He was the loveliest, most gorgeous, faithful, intelligent animal ever. I even taught him to play fetch. He was too young to die at 6 years old. His sister Dana died when I was away on holiday this year. She was beautiful, a little skittish, but inquisitive, daring, funny and loving. She died twelve hours after the person looking after her took her to the vet on my orders from France as she had suddenly become ill. She died of the same thing as her brother. I never even got to say goodbye. :-( Dr. S.
Hinckley Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Sorry Dr. S :'-( They were very beautiful. I'm sure you made them extremely happy in the short time they got to spend with us...
iamded Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 (edited) Sorry to hear Doctor S. They look so cute in that pic. Rest in peace. :-( It's always devastating when a pet dies. My friends had 2 Siamese cats, called Starsky and Hutch. :-P On a more positive note, Lord Beckett, I love your kitten! I love Tortoise-shells, my cat Smudge is a Tortoise-shell. :-D :-D ~Peace Edited October 31, 2007 by iamded
