def Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Since I started the topic, I thought I'd get into more depth on my situation... I had a baby last year, and one of the ways I dealt with it was, I bought Lego. At times $300 a month. I couldn't be going to bars and so on. My wife was reasonably distressed at some point, and I've pulled it back now, since there are more important places to use my money. We have near zero debt, but the family (er, my) paycheck is well spent every month. But, that little free money I have each month, I'd like to get sale sets. I live in Japan, where sets are expensive, so I've been importing some sets to sell on Yahoo Auction (the Japanese E-bay) and my wife cooperates so I can have some more free play money-sell 5 sets, get one free I show her lots of my sets, and she says they're amazing, but she's never shown a lick of interest in putting one together. We'll see what happens when the little lady gets older. For whatever reason, I'm quite sure she'll have some interest in Lego, since I won't be buying her Easy Bake Ovens and that sort of thing (unless she really really really wants it) Quote
Eilif Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 It sounds like alot of wifes and significant others are quite accepting of LEGO for similar reasons. I think the nature of LEGO as an activity done in the home, it's ability to be shared with children, and though it does have the potential to take up alot of cash and space, it's viewed as a more relatable hobby than many other hobbies that an AFOL might engage in if not for LEGO. Dadster Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 My wife is fine with it. I've even been bought a few sets for Fathers Day, Birthday, etc. The only set currently displayed openly (not in garage/ mancave) is the Giant castle Chess set. Unfortunately - we just don't have enough rooms! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 My ex girlfriend loved it. If i get a new girlfriend now she'll know right away and i rather kick her out then my stuff (Lego) then. Quote

kakarothusain Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Sometimes my family members get annoyed seeing my habit of collection lego but other than that nobody in my home says anything to me regarding this.. Quote
streifen Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 they are ok with my modular series coz seriously those sets are really nice. as for my Star Wars sets, they are taking up quite a bit of room and so can get complaints at times. so far, is bearable for them though. sometimes when i get new sets, i put them away once i get home. gradually i bring them out to assemble and tell my family i am "mod-ing" a previous set.
